3 good things about winter

Only good thing I can say is when I look at pictures of the snow & misery of driving & I don't have to, it gives me pleasure. I don't miss the trees going bare, the bleak gray skies instead of being bright & sunny. Being indoors on a zero temp day or days & the heating bill skyrocketing another reason to love winter somewhere else just not in the southwest. I do admit that Christmas tree lights on cactus still does look funny to me.

I was going to post a few things that might be good about winter, like watching the snow fall and B.S. like that, but to be honest, winter sucks. It means having to put up with the cold when you go out, and having to shovel the sidewalk when it snows, and higher utility bills. But one good thing... as a result of the pandemic, I've been using grocery delivery services, so I no longer need to drive to the grocery store to buy food. Combine that with Amazon delivery and I rarely need to leave the house.

When I was 22 years old I saw my first Christmas tree lights on cactus and it shattered my heart beyond repair. It took me a long time to escape but eventually I did get to hear the crunch of snow under my boots, the magic of watching the snow flakes fall from the heavens against a distant street light, and the special silence of a snowy night. The smell of Grandma's kitchen was always comforting with hope of the coming Spring.

That used to be appealing to me. I used to love to ski and one of the main reasons I moved near the mountains. I was on the ski team back in high school.

It's been some 20 years since I stepped into a pair of ski bindings. These days, because of my f-ed up knee, it's work just to walk around the block.

Things are looking up! I used to think there were only two good things about winter:

1. The constellation Orion.

2. After December 21, the days start to get longer.

Now I've discovered a third one:

3. With the windows closed, I can hardly hear the neighbors' dog's constant whining.
#2 is the only one I can think of.
I hate winter, I've always hated winter.
