Burnout from "good stress"

Hi there I'm a senior and live a good life : good husband, great children married with grandchildren , good health etc. Wondering if anyone has felt like I do. I am very active and spend a lot of time visiting my children (who all live out of state), and being active with friends when I'm home. All the things I do are things that I really enjoy. However, lately I'm feeling burnout. Is this possible? I'm not doing anything I don't want to do. I'm 74 years old and in good health. I am getting lazy and my stomach is acting up which is the way I react when I'm stressed. Am I just getting to be an old lady?

No definitely not getting old. No such thing! It's possible you are burned out. Its gets to everybody.
Its possible you are just doing too much, and you may not realize it. While the visiting of kids and gran-kids, activities you do and hanging out with friends is awesome, sometimes you need a little 'you' time. Politely let your friends know you are taking a 'you-cation'! Let you kids know you will visit soon, and stop doing the things that you normally do for a few days or a week.

See how you feel after that.

Also to note...have you changed your diet at all? Added or subtracted food/s could make a difference. Do you take vitamins, and maybe changed brands. Weather and seasons can have an effect. Is it also possible you are internally stressed about something, not so big that it keeps you up at night, but sometimes the little things can build up and get to you-and you don't even know it.

For us, we take a 'week off' every 2 months or so, from the gym, cut down calls with kids, put off friends for the week...and we come back better in a few days or a week.

Hope this helps, and hope you feel better!

Remember age is just a number! (If you forget that number then we got an issue, LOL)

Am I just getting to be an old lady?
Yes. Yes! Your body's saying you need to slow down and get more rest, like, take a nap everyday, or at least lie down for an hour or so. It's not keeping up with all the stuff you're doing. It doesn't have the energy reserves it used to have because it's using it to make a lot more repairs than it used to.

Welcome!

Thanks so much for all your replies. I agree that I need to take a "me" break. Even though I enjoy everything I do, I will admit I have had thoughts of just wanting to sit in my chair for a week or two and do nothing but read a book, watch TV, and enjoy a glass of wine. I guess my body and mind is telling me something. I have to get over the feeling that doing that is giving in to my age.

Nothing wrong with being truthful about how your feeling. We all adapt as we age, hopefully with some grace. :)

Hi and welcome. Maybe you're not giving your body enough time to recover from the positive stress. As we get older our bodies require more time to recover full strength back. You will feel better if you give yourself that time.
