Do you use senior helpers/aids?

I have a Shower grab on the wall..

..a parallel bannister on my stairs...

A reacher grabber... and ai have several walking sticks dotted around the house.

if you looked at me without knowing me, you wouldn't imagine I would need any of these things.. but when My lower back basically collapsed about 15 years ago, and I was barely able to walk for quite a few months.. that's when I had those things installed, and purchased...

Now with OA in my knees..when the steroid injections wear off , then the double bannister rails are very handy to stop me falling downstairs when the knees give way.. same with the shower grab..

About 2 years ago I needed a walker for seven months because I lost my balance something was wrong with my inner ears and it was awful I couldn’t do anything On my bottom to go up down the stairs It got mostly better and atm no devices but I really want to look into a handle bar for the shower because I still have awful balance in the shower and if it’s slippery , it’s not good

don't get a suction one.. get one that's drilled into the tile...

Nothing worse than something like that suddenly giving way! I got injured when a branch gave way that I was holding and I injured myself on a pointed stump 10 years ago - that event seemed to lead to problems I still deal with.
ooooh *ouch*... 😧..

yes I'm really pedantic about getting a job done properly for safety's sake. I hate it when I see these adverts for things like a suction grab bar, knowing that people put their trust in these things, and they are very dangerous..

My apartment is set up completely for disabilities. I could use a wheelchair full time here if I needed it. I have grab bars in the shower and outside it. The kitchen has enough room for a wheelchair to turn around in it.

Presently I have 4 walkers, 3 different types and 2 rollator types, a cane and a mobility chair (for going down the street).
I have the sock helper thing to help me put on my compression stockings daily.
Also the reacher grabber (that belonged to my mother and I kept it and am glad I did).
The toilet seat that goes on top of the toilet to make it higher.
Compression leg sleeves to give me a lymphedema massage on my legs.
And a passive exerciser that sits under my table so I can use it when on the computer.

My best cane is in my car. The second best, which I use when I go to fetch the mail is in the stand by the door. Both have return address stickers on them. My late wife left her cane in a shop in New Mexico and those nice folks mailed it to her.
The grabber is in the kitchen.
I have computer glasses by the computer
Handicap parking placard is by the door in case I go out in someone else's car.
There is a walker waiting patiently in the closet.

Does a credit card count? 😉🤭😂

For a bib/clothing protector I use these inexpensive dentist clips and a pretty dish towel, work great for people of any age.

I have a folding walker, just in case.

A handheld shower head is helpful.

Right now vision is my biggest issue, hearing is probably next, but mobility is still good for now.

These threads are very helpful, please keep sharing the things that have value in your situation. 🤗

Great tip!!!

If you have cataracts, do get them removed, the procedure is easy and painless, I know this because for a very long time my eyes deteriated to the point that all I could see was blurred.
Now, the cataracts have been removed and my vision is superb, I can enjoy seeing what the neighbours are doing out in the street.
I can watch TV from right across the room instead of being almost on top of it.
And best of all, I can read all of your super posts. 😊

Everyone's support equipment is truly impressive, we are currently having our home cleaned, painted and a general tidy up ready for sale. We need a bungalow. Our stairs, that once gave us access to the bedrooms, bathrooms and loft, have become as much of a challenge as The North Face of The Eiger.
MY stairs haven't quite got to that stage, but because I have OA in my knees, some days they are particualrly painful, and it hurts like Billy-O to go up or down the stairs, which is why I'm currently looking for a home all on one floor, because this OA is not likely to get better..

Have a bunch of canes but don't use them as they are bad for my posture. I tend to lean too heavily on them and they throw me off walking. Wish I had a grabber though, the one they sell in CVS is too expensive. Maybe I'll get one online. I'm so short, it's ridiculous. Lost 4 inches off my height in last decade or so.

You must have been a Boy Scout @Manatee!

Be Prepared.

That's the motto of the Boy Scouts. 🌹

I always take my trekking pole with me when I go out to walk, especially after falling down three times in two weeks earlier this summer.

It has saved me from falling several times. When I start to get tired, I tend to "drag foot" and that causes a fall. I switch it from hand to hand and don't particularly lean on it; it's just there to provide the "third leg" that I apparently should have been born with....LOL.

I use a cane or grocery cart for support. It is about time I started using a walker. My eye doctor's office is a distance from the parking garage and I have put off an appointment for that reason.
Tonight I will attend a neighborhood meeting. It has been a while. The woman next door will come along in my car so she can drive us home in the dark. Her car is a Jeep which I find difficult getting in and out. Whatever works!
