Five lost or forgotten scuba divers found/rescued by a sailboat in Hawaii. The five divers hung together for safety. The sailboat couldn't get the group out of the water safely so they radioed the Coast Guard and the original dive boat heard the call on the radio and arrived on scene as the CG did.

Five scuba divers stranded off Hawaii rescued by sailing couple: ‘Saw five little dots’

Lost or forgotten scuba divers don't always end well but this one did-by luck. But they were found.

I watched a movie once about something like that. A couple were left behind by a dive boat and floated around for a couple of days before dying. I think it was based on a true story, fictionalized of course, as there was no way to know how long the couple lived.

It was a combination of the couple not heeding the instructions to stay near to the boat and the boat operator having the wrong count of passengers. A lethal combination....

That movie was called Open Water. It did not end so happily.

How long were they in the water ?

I watched the movie 'open water' If I recall correctly ? It was based on a true story. I can't even imagine going through that , the fear until the end. Horrible way to die.

It happened in Australia near Cairns.

I watched the same movie or one very similar. The company that sponsored the diving trip out and back was held totally responsible and perhaps the Captain faced charges. I think the story I saw was the divers all wore some type of footwear and before they went into the water, they removed the footwear.

When it was time to leave the area, none of the crew checked to see if any of the footwear had been claimed or they would have noticed the 2 pair were still sitting there.

I believe the couple that had been abandoned were newly weds, but wouldn’t swear to it because it’s been awhile since I watched it.

tour operators should make sure all were there and frankly missing 2 is highly more likely then missing 5.
