Different regions and cultures characterize animal sounds different ways. I always suspected this might be the Canadian turkey call here:

Nope, you would be wrong. What the McKenzie Brothers (Bob and Doug ) are doing is a comedic version of the call of the Common Loon, a bird that is found in most parts of Canada, below the 60th meridian. Loons are one of the visual icons of Canadian wildlife, along with Beavers, Moose, Bears and Lynx. Our one dollar coin has a Loon on it, and we call that coin a Loonie. Link.

Well, we have our share of loons in our north here as well. I've never heard one that sounds anything like what Bob and Doug do in those skits. But I'll take your word for that.
Ever wonder why the brothers family name is Makenzie ? link. alexander mackenzie - Bing

The first overland journey to the Pacific Ocean from eastern north America in 1793. A decade before Lewis and Clarke. He carved his name, the date, and "To the Pacific Ocean, from Canada " on a rock over looking the ocean. Scots built Canada, he was one of the first. JimB.

Maybe because they did such a bad example
This is what it sounds like in interior Algonquin at dusk or dawn. Dan Gibson-Solitudes has them in one of his collections
The second video is the best.

This is what they sound like on their own. They have such a nostalgic sound.
