I was reading that if you have to evacuate from a hurricane and can’t take all of your valuables with you, the best thing to do is to empty you dishwasher and store things in there. Since it has to keep water in, it has a watertight seal and has a really good chance of also keeping flood water out of the dishwasher and protect your belongings that are inside.

The recent FEMA planning meeting apparently said they were going to prioritize equity when they are rescuing people, because that fits in better with the DEI principle that they are supposed to go by, rather than the traditional way of just going to the communities where they are needed most.

Now mini or micro tornadoes. Just as dangerous although a fraction of the duration. During some hurricane experts they can cause as much damage as the winds or storm surges.

At night one can see them take out power/tranformers in distance during a hurricane sometimes in a seemingly perfect sequence. Eiree

Best of luck to all in the zone/cone. STAY SAFE!

The seal won't stop sewage from coming in the drain pipe.
The seal also won't help when the unit is dented, damaged, and/or carried away by the wind or floodwaters.

Not just for floods one would figure they would be put a check valve on the discharge part of the DW. Alot of things with a pump it's recommended one install an inline valve.

I know someone who had a mini flood from a backed/clogged drain through her old dishwasher. Not sure of more recent standards with d/wrs.

I know it has been said before but, ...... watching the weather channel report on Milton. Once again, they implore you to stay indoors, out of harms way. They report on debris flying in the strong wind. One guy even showed a 2x4 with nails in it ...... This could come at you at any time he said and cause any manner of physical injury .... OK, true , but then I ask, why is he standing out in it ? All for ratings ? equaling money ?

How do they expect folks to take them seriously , when they are doing exactly what they are shouting ........ do not do?

I realize they are the experts on weather but , they are not supermen/women , that 2x4 can injure / kill them just as easily as it can anyone.

Hydro One sending 150 crew members to Florida to help with Hurricane Milton

Last week, Hydro One sent 100 power line workers to Georgia to assist Georgia Power with the aftermath

Last week, the electricity transmission and distribution utility serving Ontario sent 100 power line workers to Georgia to assist Georgia Power with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

They completed their work on Tuesday but are now headed south, with an additional 50 members from Ontario joining them, said Tiziana Baccega Rosa, Sr. Media Relations Advisor at Hydro One.

According to the Weather Channel, Milton made landfall in Siesta Key, which is south of Tampa as a Cat 3. It has now crossed over the state and into the Atlantic and is expected to keep proceeding east.

I have cameras set up at my home in Polk County and the main drive, which is inside the house and connected to a wall socket inside shut down at 10:41 p.m. last night, which tells me that the power lines probably went down at that time.

My neighbor hasn’t reported to us if we sustained any damage or not.

I was so anxious and almost to the point of tears in the couple of days before Milton hit. My BFF (Marco Island) and Honorary Son (Tampa) were both in evacuation zones. My BFF evacuated to Naples, my HS hunkered down. I was so worried that if it hit as a Cat 5, their residences would be decimated. As the track constantly was changing, turns out Naples was forecast to get a 6 - 9 ft storm surge, which was worse than Marco! I was so relieved when Milton went from a cat 5 back to a cat 3.

My HS promised to keep me posted by text, which he did. The morning after Milton hit, he texted then called to say he and his fiancee were safe. They did lose power, however, which was expected. His daughter and SIL are in Tampa too. Don't know how they fared. Didn't want to have long conversations with him or too many texts because I knew he was trying to conserve his phone's battery. I don't think he realized the extent of the damage in Tampa because it was before sunrise when he called, he's on the third floor and probably couldn't tell the scope of it.

My BFF fared well too. There was no damage to her properties and Marco has power. After viewing the utter devastation in so many areas, I feel they are blessed. She has a fairly new car, significant money has already been spent in renovating one of her properties and it would have been so terrible if all that was lost. I've seen stories of others who weren't so fortunate after having started renos that are now lost.

Still praying for all those who have been severely impacted by these hurricanes and tornadoes. The devastation is just unbelievable!
