I lost hearing in my right ear

I've been struggling with a bunch of health-related problems in the past year or so. I have type 2 Diabetes, but am managing it well enough.

Around the beginning of February I lost hearing in my right ear. I had an MRI done this week. A blood vessel in my right ear ruptured. There is no cure. This is an extremely rare event.

I have an appointment next week to see about getting hearing aids. I also need therapy for vertigo (extreme dizziness) which is caused by the hearing loss.

Ain't life fun? Getting old stinks.

Sorry to hear of your loss Ronk. Most likely your inner ear is the problem with ballance. Sure hope therrapy can help with that. My friend had to have a tube inserted.

Our daughter had Covid and lost hearing in one ear last fall. Is a H.S. Music teacher.
Won Teacher of the month award in February, even with her loss. Never give up.

Thanks for your support everyone. It's been a rough year or so. My brother died in June of 2024. My step mother died in February 2025.

I really can't handle social situations. I just can't hear anyone. Let's see if I can get hearing aid(s), and how much they help.

I wonder if they have any tech devices that would work, yesterday my phone was talking to itself and I looked at it, and apparently it thought it heard it being asked to define 'define' and it was reading the definition. Silly phone!

But since phones can hear us, maybe there is a device that would hear for you and type what people were saying so you could read it?

I'm so sorry you've had such a horrible emotional time this year, and now the hearing problem.

Having read on here over the years of people buying hearing aids , from cheap to expensive I see that expensive doesn't always mean good..so I urge you to ask on here for recommendations.,,bacause getting the wrong ones will not help you get yur mood back on track

I'm not quite sure how to answer the question of hearing aids. The Ear Nose and Throat doctor said I medically qualify for hearing aids.

She mentioned something that sounded like BiCros. It apparently captures sound in the right side and transfers it to the left side?! I have an appointment on Tuesday. I'll let you know how it goes.

BiCross What are CROS and BiCROS hearing aids?

SO went through a number of hearing aids (which make great cat toys) until the issue was identified at the root. He has the issues you describe due to a series of surgeries. With recent PT and correct bugs his quality of life has improved!

I also have hearing loss in one ear and had an MRI scan when it deteriorated fairly quickly. Nothing untoward was found, think it was caused by ongoing ear infections. I was given a hearing aid for that ear which was fine but sometimes I still felt the need to ask people to talk to me via my 'good' side/ear.

However, I recently went for a check up and had another hearing test and this time the audiologist recommended CROS hearing aid and asked how I'd feel about an aid in both ears. I said I'd give it a go. I was pleased to find that not only do they suit me but that they are also much smaller and neater than my previous single hearing aid and I can hear conversations much better. I hope they will work for you. :giggle:

@ronk , hope you get the help you need, being able to hear is crucial to our health.
well yes and no... probably more so if you're used to being a hearing person. I was born into an extended family of profoundly deaf , it never affected their health in any way, and of course these days unlike back then there's a whole myriad of ways to communicate if you suffer from hearing loss..

yes absolutely... in that what you've never had you never miss...

Becoming blind for example after having vision, must be very hard to come to terms with... whereas being born blind might not be easy , but at least one has learned how to get on in life from birth
