If you could live forever, or at least a 1000 years -would you want to?

Aubrey de Grey believes that: "Ageing is a disease not your destiny and we will find a cure"

In this video he explains why we should treat ageing like a disease rather than a death sentence, and that aging can be reversed by identifying and repairing health issues, drastically extending human lifespans possibly up to 1000 years!

The implications are hard to fathom.

Obviously, this brings a host of issues- not just for you, but for the entire world. Social, medical, economic, agriculture, and resources, and the obvious overpopulation. Every facet of our current world order would change.

What do you think- if you could defeat death would you want to?

This will take some thought...On one hand, it would be interesting to see what comes in 100 years, 500 years etc. But what if it gets drastically worse?

Also it would depend on how you live those extra years. Should any of his research, ideas and the science prove possible, how would you live. Would you live as you are today? Meaning would you live healthy and fit, or would you be 'hanging on' so to speak...A lot would depend on some deep questions that would need to be answered.

How would people live? Would we be overpopulated, starving, polluted, or would we have figured out solutions to our basic problems that we just can't seem to figure out currently.

Wow, this is a good one. I think I would sleep on it and touch on it tomorrow.

Hmmm, while I enjoyed my first 29 years with you, would I survive 100 or 500 more! Lol!

"If you could live forever, or at least a 1000 years -would you want to?"

I might need to spend half the extra years trying to make up for all I haven't done right so far.šŸ˜”

I have read somewhere that AI will be able to help us achieve much longer life. I think it is very possible to keep extending our life span through science. We won't be able to see this, but his speculation extended out 500 years. I don't think we will achieve immortality of the human body, but there might be some unifying way we will eventually meld with the universe. ( become timeless ).
We can probably help ourselves now by trying different supplements. I just started one called Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme q10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally occurring substance found in every cell of the body. It plays a crucial role in generating energy within cells and acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative stress and damage.

Key Functions:

  1. Energy Production: CoQ10 helps generate energy in cells by facilitating the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the primary energy currency of the body.
  2. Antioxidant Activity: CoQ10 neutralizes free radicals, which can damage cells and contribute to chronic diseases.
  3. Mitochondrial Function: CoQ10 is essential for the proper functioning of mitochondria, the energy-producing structures within cells.

Benefits:

  1. Heart Health: CoQ10 may help reduce the risk of heart failure, improve cardiovascular function, and lower blood pressure.
  2. Neuroprotection: CoQ10 may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinsonā€™s and Alzheimerā€™s, by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
  3. Antioxidant Properties: CoQ10ā€™s antioxidant activity may help reduce the risk of cancer, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
  4. Exercise Performance: CoQ10 supplementation may improve exercise endurance and reduce muscle damage.
  5. Skin and Hair Health: CoQ10 may help protect against skin and hair damage caused by oxidative stress.

Food Sources and Supplements:

  1. Food Sources: CoQ10 is found in small amounts in meat, fish, whole grains, and vegetables, such as spinach, broccoli, and nuts.
  2. Supplements: CoQ10 is available as a dietary supplement in various forms, including capsules, tablets, and liquids.

Recommended Daily Intake:

The optimal daily intake of CoQ10 varies depending on individual factors, such as age, health status, and dietary habits. Generally, a daily dose of 30-100 mg is recommended.

Interactions and Side Effects:

CoQ10 is generally considered safe and well-tolerated. However, high doses may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners, and cause gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and diarrhea.

Conclusion:

Coenzyme Q10 is an essential nutrient with multiple benefits for overall health and well-being. While it can be obtained through food sources, supplements may be necessary to ensure adequate intake, particularly for individuals with specific health conditions or concerns. As with any supplement, consult with a healthcare professional before starting CoQ10 therapy.

If the aging process stayed the same, no thank you. I would not want to get to 100 years old knowing I had another 900 years of old age!!

If the aging process were slowed down and an average 500 year old was equivalent to today's 25 year olds then, yes!

On the other hand, it would be good if we all lived to be a hundred but in great health, with the mind, energy, mobility and friendships we had enjoyed in our younger days. Yep. I would love that too :)

No thanks. I'm already looking forward to going to sleep. The best thing about life is seeing the world and very few people have seen as much of it as I have. Anyway, I don't want to be here when the bomb hits. I've been kissed, huged, sexed, kicked, shot at, under rocket attack, under mortar attack, had guns pointed at me, threatened, mistreated, hated, ignored, slandered, cheated on, lied to, and overall disappointed. It's time to go to Tralfamadore and nestle up to Montana Wildhack.

For me, I think another three years will be enough to call it a life. There's not really much else I want to see or do, but I do have one project that I want to finish up before I leave, and three years is a sufficient amount of time to see it through. I'll be 70. Considering when I was young, I never thought I'd make it to the age of 30, I've exceeded all (of my) expectations.

God no. If I lived to be a 1000 then I would have to work for 670 years till retirement. That would suck.
