Joni Mitchell just turned 81

She was quite influential. Many of us lived in Laurel Canyon in L.A. in the '60s. It was a wild 'n crazy time, but there was also a ton of talent.

If you like her and that era, you might enjoy Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon;
or, Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock -and-Roll's Legendary Neighborhood.

Both are available pretty cheaply on Abe Books or Amazon.

Thank you for this topic. I've adored JM since I was 24 and someone told me she had a song called "Marcy" on her first album, Song to a SeagulI. I went out and bought it, beginning a more than 50-year joyful relationship.

In 1965 I frequented a tiny coffee house in my home town called "The Cellar". A favorite performer there was a guy named Chuck Mitchell. One night, he performed with his Canadian girlfriend, Joni Anderson. They returned later that year as a married couple. A few years later they divorced but she kept his name.

I've always felt that Chuck was the more talented of the pair but Joni had more business acumen and was definitely more focused on her career. I still have all of both Chuck and Joni's record albums around here somewhere. :)

I have never heard Chuck's music but somehow I suspect he was NOT more talented than Joni.
