When I said it, they laughed at me.

Dear Camper 6, I was born and raised in Massachusetts, in a small town south of Worcester. I used to love it when tourists tried to say "Worcester". Since this is Massachusetts, we don't pay any attention to how things are spelled, only what we call them. Think of how JFK sounded. Worcester is "Wistah". And Leominster is "Lemonstah". Now, to freak you out.
There is another Mass. town- Leicester . It's pronounced "Lesstah."

Months. I have a hard time getting my tongue to segue from the "th" to the "s". Same thing with "youths".

Yes the spelling has nothing to do with the pronunciation and lots of small towns and lots of history.
But here in Canada we have a city called Moose Jaw.
Moose Jaw? Is that the best name they could come up with?

Here in NM we have a town called "Truth or Consequences." Most people call it T or C. It's named after the old game show, but I still think it's a stupid name for a town. It was Hot Springs before they renamed it in 1950 after that show.

Sorry, Furryanimal. In Massachusetts, USA, it's Wistah, Mass. The fact that it's spelled W-o-r-c-e-s-t-e-r doesn' t enter in to our thinking.

Itās a running joke in the family that I have so much trouble with the word. They go to elaborate lengths to work it into a conversation to make me say it.
Unless I make a conscious effort to pronounce each syllable separately, effectively making it sound like three separate words, (The Saw Russ) it comes out as either Sethaurous or Thethaurous
