Why do people leave their health to the government

With all the hullabaloo with the Trump team preparing an attack against the corrupt health and food system (which is great), it makes me wonder...

Why was it ever tolerated in the first place? And why do people wait for a correction to be implemented at the government level rather than taking personal responsibility and initiative to make healthy lifestyle choices?

It's pretty simple to read a food label, research and use basic common sense to avoid toxic foods, medicines, etc. and not overload your body with junk.

It truly boggles my mind.

I know I am responding to my wife's post, but I had to add something. As she was typing, I was lost in thought....

People especially retired ones, in general spend most of their waking hours enjoying life, hobbies, enjoying a coffee or glass of wine, talking with friends, reading etc. And since this is 2024 clearly we all have access to the internet, and while not everyone has a smart phone, most do. When at the store how hard is it to look up for example-titanium dioxide-and wonder...what the heck is it doing in my bread or cereal? Takes a few seconds at most. And if people keep a publication like Pubchem handy you can look up these things easily and see that Titanium dioxide has many warnings listed. As well as links related to many topics of TD.

Health Hazard-
Titanium dioxide (airborne, unbound particles of respirable size) can cause cancer according to California Labor Code.
California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA)
Titanium dioxide is an odorless white powder. Tasteless. pH 7.5. Occurs in three crystalline forms. (NTP, 1992)

So, it is odorless and tasteless....so what the heck is it doing in our food?

This is for many ingredients.

Now, in terms of health...food in general. Why choose the pizza over the chicken breast and rice? Cause its easier, thats why. People in general are lazy. We all want instant gratification so ordering vs prepping and making is easier. But sadly most food is barely food. So many added ingredients and sugars that are not needed or wanted, but they are in there.
When did food become organic vs non organic? Why is that even a thing? Who allowed food to be non organic sprayed with pesticides and herbicides and other toxic to health chemicals? Why?

Then Exercise....everyone and even dogs know exercise prolongs life and at very minimum makes you enjoy your later years. Many studies prove that you live longer, but more importantly, live better. There is ample evidence that in your 'last' years you have less health issues which means medical issues, are happier, and enjoy your remaining days with a lot less worry and stress. And less financial cost in some places.

Supplements...the bane of my existence. Thankfully we found a natural supplement maker here in Eu that offers tours of their facility, show videos of their products being made, and govt as well as 3rd party testing results. So we are happy with this supplier. But when we travel elsewhere (Asia, NA, SA) and run out of our supply, it is hard to find an uncontaminated supplement that doesnt have motor oil, industrial waste, adultered, fake or has animal parts in it! (Exaggeration of course)! But they are full of both unneeded and unhealthy additives. Why?

Why cant this vit c be concentrated dehydrated organic acerola berries and rose hips only, instead of a bunch of other ingredients that are mostly toxic and pointless? Once dehydrated and air tight sealed the brand we use has a 3-5 year shelf life. No diff than dehydrated food. Why cant everything?

Mental outlook...I notice that people in general can no longer converse. No longer are healthy debates a thing. You bring your info, I bring mine, obviously they will be different, but we debate, rebuttal, discuss, then come to a reasonable outcome/conclusion. Many times, no agreement! But sometime one side will make the other realize or at least consider the information fairly and unobjectively. Heck debate classes were taken when I was in school, but by the time my son was in high school they had been removed. So was Psychology. Both my wife and I took intro to Pysch and I took debate. Both are gone from curriculum (at least in most Can schools).

I think it was done so people can't talk anymore peacefully. Only argue and anger now. Ask a loaded question and...you offended me! Really? I just asked a question. I would never offend someone on purpose but since just about everything is offensive now, there is no calm debate or conversations anymore. Life in the Military, learning what really goes on behind the scenes, taking and reading endless Philosophy books and lectures clearly shows the true reality of the world. I think people need to get back to a time when we were peacefull, friendly and able to discuss things that upset us, but...at the end shake hands, laugh and when I see you tomorrow it was like nothing happened.

I wish that future for my kids and grandkids!

Based on books from history, the paupers were the healthiest. Healthier than the elites! The lords, kings and rich over ate, had people wait on them and did nothing. Many elites suffered bad and poor health, while the poorer had less food, healthier, had to work hard and stayed physically healthy, and because of their situation in life, laughed at their predicament. Just enjoyed what they had as most knew there was no climbing the ladder to success. So your comment is rubbish.

That we all should be so lucky to have good health. But we do not. The healthcare exchange allowed people to afford healthcare even when their underlying conditions would of previously caused denial. We can all benefit from eating better…and exercise. But…I know a single family with three siblings with cancer. And my grand nephew has a inoperable brain tumor. Fix that please. Due to the affordable care act he was able to stay on his parents insurance till he was 26. A good thing. The medical system is not corrupt. It is a safety blanket with a lot of options for a lot of different problems. It is not the systems fault that it picks up the pieces for people who have lived hard. It is a blessing.

I think that many people DO look and research to try and live their best possible life. There are a lot of health-oriented doctors who are writing books, selling the books, (and making money) so people have to be buying and reading the books.
I have a huge Kindle library, and read all kinds of books about things that I think will help me keep my health as I am aging.

I am really looking forward to the whole country having healthier foods at an affordable price, and more people wanting to eat healthy. However, there are always going to be people who eat for enjoyment and want “comfort food” more than they want to eat healthy foods.
Another trend that does not help, is now a lot of people simply order their food and have dinner delivered, so it comes from some restaurant or fast food place instead of being made in the kitchen at home.

Silver Sneakers comes with most of the medicare programs, so that gives people a free gym membership, and they even have online health classes. I get their email letters every day about how to live a better life and stay healthy, and we go to our local fitness center as well as just enjoying yard work and being outside in the sun.

I belong to a small forum where we do discuss politics, and one of the main topics right now is how RFK is going to help Americans have healthier food choices.
We will still have the choice in what we eat, but at least the healthy options will be more easily available.
I follow health doctors on X, too, and there is a lot of good health information there and easy to get, plus Grok AI that can answer questions.

And re supplement requirements: please note that ingredients that are listed in the nutrition label do not need to be repeated in the ingredient list!

Of course I wish all good health. And hope all the ill family members get well. But there is no such thing as getting ill for no reason. If you study human anatomy and physiology, it is only cause and effect. The body one day does not just say 'hey I think today I will get heart disease'. It is all lifestyle related, occupation related and environmental influences.

We have bad food, bad air, bad water, extreme stress and that contributes to illness. If you understand how the bodys physiology works...the body responds to external or internal stressors. Whether internal parasites or external toxic fumes, the body responds as it does. Unfortunately with illness, as the overwhelming pressures of life get it so worn down it can't help but to fail.

Yes the medical system is a safety blanket, but it is needed far too often. Recently there was a release of the obesity, diabetes, sickness, drug use rate in the US (Canada is the same). We are nearing 80 percent obesity and overweight, 68 percent pre or full blown diabetes. Almost 60 percent medicine use. Unfortunately these are lifestyle diseases of many causes. But, controllable causes. And avoidable.

This family with 3 people with cancers...do they work at the same place, live in a environmentally polluted area. Are they consumers of alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc. I am not demeaning them, but there are reasons for everything. Everything on earth has a cause and effect. Not that this is the case, but there are many studies that babies born to smokers or drinkers or even sick people, can pass illness on to their kin, and not always does it appear at birth. It may appear years later or never.
Also, here in the EU there is a push to get rid of smartphones and bluetooth near the head. There are doctors performing surgery everyday of the week cutting tumors out of their heads from behind the ears due to the radiation effect. There are also doctors in the US talking about that. Specialists that spend entire weeks completing this type of surgery.

I am sorry for the illness that your grandson has. Yes sometimes it is possible that something like that occurs seemingly out of no where. I truly hope he recovers.

But yes the medical system is corrupt. They have cures for everything. There have been many cases in the courts of suppressed cures. Renee Caisse and the Canadian govt court case speaks volumes. She cured tens of thousands of people of terminal diseases. Diseases where the govt said is incurable. There is many cures or treatments out there but govts censor. The gerson therapy has tens of thousands of testimonies. Renee Caisse had 38k confirmed stage 4 cancers beaten, plus some say over 100k other diseases.

It is not a health care system but a sick care system. They do nothing for you to prevent you or anyone from becoming a patient. If they did govts would make food clean, air clean, water pure, and punish those that do harm to our bodies. But they do not.

Back in the early 1900's (I believe 30's) they removed natural health from the medical curriculum, closed natural medicine schools, and pretty much today all natural cures are banned or made illegal. Eg: B17 banned in Can and US, but avail on the shelf in EU and Mexico. Promoted as a health product here in EU. Canada...its banned.

Once again, I hope all the best for you and your family, and extended members and friends. But the first thing to understanding and fixing a problem is admitting there is one!

We have the government to thank that we have standardized labels to read.

IMO some government regulations and public health standards are essential.

We can all point to something that we disagree with but overall I believe that we are better off with these protections than without them.
Of course. Regulators are important. But sadly they have no teeth or enforcement when things-most-health related get messed up.

I agree with the mental outlook portion. people don't have pleasant conversations as much as they did in my parents and grandparents day and it does make a difference I think.

People had "pleasant conversations" with polite differences of opinion because they were honest, like-minded family and friends and neighbors and countrymen. Today these differences reflect monstrous ideas, outlandish beliefs, ridiculous self-serving opinions in the eyes of both sides.

It took some effort to get detailed food labeling at all. Even so there are loopholes that allow some things to be omitted or masked by "clever" terminology.

Also consider the different "food pyramids" pushed over the decades. Or "wisdom" imparted that "X is bad, eat Y" which sometimes gets completely reversed years later.

Or other "wisdom" that only impacts a very small population with outsized influence, suggesting normal foods be replaced by chemically engineered substitutes. People don't seem to realize that a lot of "milk alternatives" are different formulas for non-dairy creamer being sold at high prices pre-dissolved in water with a lot of emulsifying chemicals.

No wonder people have trouble with it all.

To expect the government to ensure that we all have healthy food is impossible. FDA can be directed to change what are allowed as food additives. And we can change how we look at things like the necessity of medical services and such. But the process is slow…and funding to do the testing and policing the policies takes a drastic shift in current climate.

Many "healthy lifestyle choices" are not as healthy as advertised. No salt, no saturated fat, fat free, calorie free, diet, no cholesterol, etc. are all not healthy at all. Bottled water, diet sodas, no good... flavored water, veggie caps, dextrose, maltodextrin, Splenda, dextrin, all sugar derivatives. Big food, big sugar and big pharma and the government are all connected. Their aim, to keep everyone sick and unhealthy and the money rollin' in, there is no money in health and fitness, for them. They achieve this via fear and advertising.
Did you know, that years ago, the acceptable reading for blood pressure (systolic), as taught in medical schools, was 100 + your age. So, an 80 year old person would be fine with a 180/?? reading. What is it today? Everyone should be 120/80, which has changed various times, according to how many people they want to scare into taking meds, and how much money they want to make. Cholesterol is the 2nd most important molecule in the human physiology, next to H2o! So, do not blame the people for being frightened into believing the "experts", blame the "experts", most are not that at all.

Yes you nailed it. Here in Eu, if your blood pressure is not 150 they think thats bad! And cholesterol is vip in the human body. So important to health and healing. The western idiots think its bad.

Why is it impossible to expect the government's assurance that our food is healthy? I don't think it is. It's the very reason the FDA was created.

Maybe the process is slow because the FDA and the dozens of agencies that coordinate with them got too bloated, and there's too many of them in the first place. And maybe the funding has become corrupt, and some of the data that's used to obtain funding is unfounded, unproven, or even invented.

I think looking into this is critical, and demanding reform is necessary.

Does anyone really believe that we can knowingly control the growing of blueberries in peru? Tomatoes in mexico? We can not. Nor can we totally police what happens in the USA. We have some control over things like food additives, packaging labels, plant inspections and such. And I agree we should fund the science to make better decisions.
