On Feb. 15, 1974 the young hitchhiker Mary K. Schlais was found dead at an intersection in Spring Brook, Wisconsin. Now , 50 years later, an 84-year-old man was arrested.

I'm in favor of requiring everyone to provide a DNA sample to be stored in a nationwide data base. We could start with newborns at the hospital. For older kids make it a requirement as part of your pre-school physical. For adults make it a requirement for when you renew your driver license or state ID. Make it harder for these criminals to get away with stuff.

I've got to think about that because DNA info could be used by a nasty dictator (or is that an oxymoron?).
