Girls and Women being Deepfaked Nude and Google Doesn't Bother to Block the Deepfakes

NY Times: Opinion | The Online Degradation of Women and Girls That We Meet With a Shrug. Sorry if there is a paywall.

One thing all of us can do to fight these companies, Google and Bing (Microsoft) is to JUST DON'T USE THEM anymore.

Google's original mission statement was "Don't be evil." They literally gave that one up LONG ago. Any company that points searchers to these deepfaked nudes, especially of children, they are evil personified so don't support them! Get a new search engine. They are FREE.

Nice website a 14-year-old mentioned in the article made after her image was deepfaked into a nude and shared all around her school.

There was a BBC investigation into Deepfake Porn, and the host found she had been deepfaked herself!

As for the likes of Google...... This is the very same thing for Ebay and fake goods. The trouble is, there's no gain for Google removing this stuff. The only, and I do mean ONLY way they can be persuaded to act is through legislation. Unless a law is passed saying it's illegal for platforms to provide access to these sites, then nothing will happen.

Google will always stand behind the fact that they don't host any of this material, they're simply indexing what their bots find. They don't rank and rate the content in anything other than monetary terms. So, you can pay to be higher in the rankings, but the actual content is down to the host, and Google really doesn't care.

One can somewhat sympathize with Google, because they have to police the entire internet. What is illegal in the US might not be illegal in the UK, and so on. It's got to be very difficult to manage all that. However, it is doable, as it's been done with child abuse. But if we want an internet that is open and free, then we have to accept this kind of thing is going to happen. It's not good, but I don't really see an answer since legislation is way behind the web.

I cannot, nor ever will, sympathize with Google aka Alphabet.
  • Alphabet annual gross profit for 2023 was $174.062B, a 11.13% increase from 2022.
Boo freakin' hoo. In the meantime, teenagers are killing themselves over these deep fakes. Familes destroyed because Google won't do a damn thing until there is a LAW.

I don't like Google (Alphabet) also. For this reason I use other search engines most of the time. But YouTube is also meanwhile owned by Google and many other companies. It is also rumored that Google was founded by the CIA to gain control over people that use their search engine.

Considering all you need to deepfake is an app and a phone and post it, online to numerous outlets, what you see may not be reality.
Google is a search engine. If troubled teens and adults use Google, it is not Google causing troubled teens and others. Years ago, comic books were touted as the cause of "juvenile delinquency". It's easy to blame an entity like Google, rather than blame the trouble people, who use it, and abuse it.
Should we ban libraries because some get addicted to reading, and would rather read than eat, go to work, or sleep?

Yes. And no.

Google disseminates this information. They directly profit from it due to advertising. So while Google don't make this stuff directly, they participate in it.

That said, it's the thin end of the wedge. If full accountability was put in place, Google and the like of Ebay would be radically changed forever. That and "freedom of speech" would be hauled over the coals.

There's a big question - is animated (fake) porn, still porn? Does it carry the burden of societal responsibility with it? How can you stop it? What, realistically, can be done? Google can do a whole lot more than they are. But since it's about the bottom line figure, at what point should they care in a "free society"?

The deepfake porn is not 'animated'(cartoon like) it is taking a real person's face and photo-shopping it onto a porn actor's image.

I suppose wisdom is not, put personal pictures and stuff on social media.
Faceplate, TikTok, titbit, etc. all seem a user tool platform of deceit eventually for all with Ai ?
There are most likely 10 different strategies being used to get cha. The day of
skipping thru the tulips, dancing with the sunshine are most likely over.
Why would the richest person in the world want to own X if not for knowledge of you?
Maybe a Court verdict of 10's of $$$$$$$$$'s Billions paid out to victims will eventually happen.
Why do Millionares and Popular people safeguard their kids photos and stuff? Protection.
Why would LLC's want to own social media Forums? To make money off a you? it a good thought?
Sure constant Ad's are there ___ Click bate also.

Hm, it's also animated. These are not still shots, they're video clips. It's digital animation, and while that doesn't require a frame-by-frame system, it does involve emulating movement.

This has been going on for a while now which is why I don’t use Google. I’ve had this stuff happen to me. I opted for a different search engine and am happy with it.
Our world is quickly becoming immoral .

Oh, the world is totally immoral. We've lost our heads. People will sacrifice anything for financial wealth and to satisfy their wants. Look at the rampant narcissism on Social Media. Look at OnlyFans where men (minority) and women can go online and make pornographic material from their bedrooms - hoards are doing it because hey, money! Look at the "Main character syndrome" where people turn into individuals even when in the wider community. Look at the people complaining about the homeless because it's ruining the view from their windows. Look at where out political system finds itself, especially in the US.

Morality has largely been replaced by gain. IMO.

I am not sure it has gotten worse. There are more people...millions, but our prurient interests have remained constant. The ease at which we can broadcast our animals instincts has exploded though. We have the means to throw titillating BS all over the world in seconds. What power that gives poor little me. It all seems natural to me. Controlling it becomes a greater challenge as time marches on, and our tech grows, I guess that leaves the door wide open.

I worked for a major US ISP in the early days of the internet. We hosted sites, etc. We had the likes of Microsoft, Disney, and so on. But the real driver of growth wasn't any of that - it was porn. Pornography is ALWAYS the driver. Hence, we now have AI, and what is it being used for right out of the gate? Making pornography. That has, indeed, been constant. For all the hand-wringing and protestations, Pornography is a huge business.

Let's take a look. The Pornography business in the US makes about $13bn per annum. Globally, pornography makes around $97bn. Clearly, a whole lot of people are into pornography, and they're not going anywhere soon. Honestly, you can't control porn.

@fuzzybuddy When you enter certain liquor stores, they used to sell dirty magazines. The stores kept those in magazine racks that hid the semi-nude ladies on the covers because they were adults-only magazines and parents would raise bloody hell if they could not walk in to get Slurpees for their kids on hot day without their children having to look at smut.

So, the liquor stores got the covered-up magazine racks just for those publications. I remember even seeing the smut magazines covered by paper if the store didn't have a special magazine rack.

You keep on talking about "personal responsiblity" and how Google cannot possibly do anything to avoid steering people to these deep fakes of NUDE CHILDREN. 😡

What I am saying, is that parents and grandparents have a VOICE too. Oh, POS Google is the LOUDEST in the room now because it is the richest, but I am telling you, you are telling parents and grandparents to SHUT UP and they will never shut up.

Deep fakes of NUDE CHILDREN. May Google and Bing both be blessed with bankruptcy.

Do you even have kids?
