How well do you shop for clothes?

Im tall and I prefer Autumn colors. Redhead. I especially hate buying pants. I have a ton of clothing that Ive accumulated over the years. So I dont really need to buy anything. Thanks be. Cause whats out there now is not for me.

Lately Ive been working on culling my hoard. Starting with my vintage mens stuff. Currently Im purging the smaller sizes. Im resigned that Im not going to be that size anytime soon.

If you want to call looking in my closet to pick out something that has been in there for quite awhile then shopping well would be what I do.

Not very, would be my answer. As a child I had homemade clothes lovingly made by an auntie and hand knitted jumpers and cardigans from my mum and another auntie. They always fitted well and I never realised how lucky I was until late in my teens I was given money to buy some new clothes in the dress shops.

So disappointing, because major alterations were required involving taking them up at the shoulder seams and at the waist or hemline. The darts, always meticulously fitted to my figure by Auntie Sheila, were never in the right place.

With the advent of synthetic fabrics, shopping for clothes is a lot easier but I still need to alter for length. It is rare that I find an outfit that fits and that I like to wear. Consequently, I spend most of my days in T shirts and slacks or jeans. Given my druthers, I like to wear caftans. A few inches off the bottom is easy and often not required at all.

For my grandson's wedding this coming Saturday, I did find a lovely combination of slacks that did not need altering and a lovely, elegant top to go with them. And it was on sale.

I'll post a photo next week.

When I worked, I was in an industry that was known for dressing well. All my suits/sport coats were Hugo Boss. It wasn't because of the brand. It was because they would last for years and they fit me well. I haven't bought a suit in over 5 years and they still look current and stylish.

I don't buy so much on price but on quality/fit. I buy shirts from Untuckit because they fit well and can be worn untucked. I buy shoes from Johnston & Murphy because they fit well, last a long time and are comfortable. Even my gym shoes are from J&M because they have good insoles.

In the long run, good quality clothes last a long time and do not need to be replaced. And with the exception of the Untuckit shirts, I don't buy clothes online. I want to try them on and see how they fit.

I like to buy clothes that are classic and durable and comfortable. My clothes usually last a very long time because of this and they're always in style. :giggle:
