Johnny Cash Only

Remember When Johnny Cash Recorded Kenny Rogers’ ‘The Gambler’?

"The Gambler" is one of Kenny Rogers' signature hits, and an all-time country music classic. But did you know that another country legend also recorded the song in a very different version? Johnny Cash actually released his own recording of "The Gambler" the same year that Rogers made it into a hit.

"Songwriter Don Schlitz was working the night shift as a computer operator at Vanderbilt University in 1976 when he wrote "The Gambler," according to Rolling Stone. He pitched the song around Nashville for several years before Bobby Bare became the first singer to cut it, but his version was unsuccessful." (READ MORE)

Johnny Cash’s Love Letter to Wife June Carter Named Most Romantic of All Time

"The idea of penning a love letter to one’s beloved may be outdated, thanks to e-cards, phone messages and texts, but a note from Johnny Cash to wife June Carter Cash may make the case for reviving the tradition."

"Proving he was not only a talented performer and songwriter, in 1994 Cash composed what a British poll deemed the most romantic love letter of all time, to his wife June on the occasion of her 65th birthday. Cash wrote, 'You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence'.

“We got old and got used to each other. We think alike. We read each others [sic] minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes we take each other for granted. But once in a while, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met.”

Johnny Cash... a favorite of mine since 1960. Not sure if mentioned earlier, but there is a Highwaymen concert DVD out there that is absolutely incredible. I believe its from PBS but can be found on Ebay. If I recall correctly, it was from 1989 and about 90 minutes long, and the sound/images are excellent!
