Losing interest in professional sports.

As far as football with its highly overpaid and underperforming athletes, indoor stadiums, artificial surfaces even on outdoor facilities, dancing and clowning around, and general silliness seen in today's games, I have lost interest in it. I even saw a college game where a receiver, after running for a touchdown, celebrated by jumping in the air and spinning, and landed wrong on his left leg, and tore up his knee! Not good when the NFL draft is around the corner again. I like track and field, an occasional boxing match, marathons too, but as far as the big circus of pro football....I'm done with it.

I've been a lifelong football fan but this year the foolishness has become out of control. Sure - -there's still some who play the game with respect and skip all of the nonsense after each, tackle, interception, fumble, block, etc.. But way too many act like complete idiots after what is basically a routine play.

Rindee is right - - -the game has been turned into a circus/carnival rather than a sporting event.

Yesterday's 111th Grey Cup championship game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argos was a highly entertaining game, with Toronto winning its 19th league championship. This is the 151st season for the Argos. Read that again...151 years as a professional foot ball team. JIM.

I watch pro football to see the big plays. Perfect passes, incredible running plays. This year my team, the Eagles, has Saquon Barkley and he's just fun to watch.

Sure, it's a show. But it's far more entertaining than anything else on TV.

I understand you in full Dave! It's embarrassing to see adults dancing , taunting and acting silly after merely doing what they get overpaid to do lol! It is a circus, and the clowns get millions of dollars to, well, act like clowns.

Looking forward to March 1st, 2025. when Rugby League will be playing in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. These men are so tough as they don't wear Helmut's, no pads, no blocking, no timeout and no forward passes., and the girls are just as tough. Bring It On !!!
Rugby is a tough sport, I've tried to watch it but never could understand it. It rarely shows, but, it's definitely for the tough!

Well, as an (used to be) avid sports fan, and engaged in many sports, I find I too have lost interest. Even in my favorite teams. I find them to be not as exciting, boring, and I find the athletes not as athletic. Yes maybe they are faster than last generation, maybe better players on paper, but the excitement is gone.

Something has changed. I thought it was me. Just getting a little older realizing how stupid it is for a person to chase a ball, puck etc for 60 or 90 min, playing 15 or 20 min of the whole game and making 100 bazillion dollars.
But then I thought about it, and I think its more the players. More are egotistical, arrogant, and standing on a pedestal types, than before.

Here in EU, and as a football fan of Manu, I hear many retired players-world class players-saying how many of the new players would never make it in their time, don't have the dedication, desire and more importantly-heart-to have played with the greats. Even Christiano Ronaldo still playing at 39 has said he has noticed a change in the players.

This is not just in football, but hockey, North American football, Basketball etc. None of the main sports is the same. Not as exciting. Almost a fabricated excitement. Heck even UFC. I remember watching UFC 1-5 and man were they great. No weight classes, no padded gloves, minimal rules, no protective gear so to speak. Now its all classes, padding, rules, refs stopping this and that. Not that I am a fan of UFC anymore, but everything had changed.

The only time I've watched a football (soccer) match was when it was the local team playing. They were all local lads playing for their home town, which is how football is meant to be.

I used to enjoy sitting with my sons and watching the wrestling. It was just entertainment really, as it was all choreographed, but still worth watching.
When I was younger, I enjoyed watching motor racing. All the old characters are gone now.

Well stated! It's become a media circus also, reporters conducting interviews during the game, stopping coaches on the way to the locker room for halftime and asking them what they need to do to win (maybe, scoring more points than the opposition might do the trick lol!). Talking to players and coaches during the game, it's beyond annoying. It's all about entertainment and money, and there's no loyalty to teams anymore, the athletes follow the money, and they seldom care about winning. I don't like indoor football, no dirt, mud, snow, they even have artificial dirt lol! It' a joke, I don't watch much anymore.

Wrestling is fun to watch, and I do watch it from time to time.

Yeah you can see pro sports are about sponsors, money and metrics. Same for the players. The days of players taking less money to stay with your 'home' team or the team that drafted/signed you are over. Now it's 'show me the money'!

I have never watched sports events nor have done sports for myself. But I understand the argument.

The German 'Fussball" players (national team) are much overpaid and often misused for political statements.

Pay is relative and the team owners business. I do not think they are over payed. I think pay is based on return to the teams finances. Why do we all think that multi billion dollar corporations should pay their employees more…but become offended when a sport team does?
