Losing interest in professional sports.

I really do like watching them on tv. You see so much more. And as far as the “silliness “ goes…these people are in the best physical condition of their lives…lots and lots of energy.
Physical condition, nor energy have nothing to do with the silliness displayed by the masses that I was referring to, in fact, that makes it more annoying when they do act childish or silly after scoring a touchdown for example.

The Olympics used to be great, now Dream Teams and pro athletes are the norm.
Yep, the Olympics used to be where you could see mainly young amateurs compete, purely for the sport. They weren't allowed to be paid.

The problem was the coverage. If you wanted to watch men's boxing, just when you were really getting into it, they'd cutaway to women's figure skating. People got fed up. But the geniuses at the Olympic Committee decided viewership was low because the athletes weren't good enough, so they started allowing professional athletes.

So true! This is interesting because I just finished watching "Chariots of Fire", amateurs competing to the best of their God-given abilities, back before steroids, and big money sponsors took over the games. Now its all about money, and as you said, pros, when it used to be for amateurs only.

I’m pretty sure I could win a gold medal in race-walking, I’d just run instead.

My husband and I both lost our appetites for football when CTE injuries became well-known. We watch the Super Bowl because it's a cultural event. He might watch some playoffs, but I don't bother. Even with the SB, I'm reading a book during most of the plays.

I like baseball - Little League on up to MLB.

Olympics? I watch some, but they're not by any means a must-see.

I watch football professional and college! I watch each play (as they step up to address the ball), but little of the cr__ that goes on before and after. It is only all about the game...
That's part of my complaint, now we see interviews being conducted during the game with players and coaches. They keep adding more and more talking heads with mics, as if that makes it more entertaining. I am tired of it all.

Did you see the movie "Concussion"? It's a must watch on the subject of CTE injuries.

Whenever I lose interest in another professional sport I celebrate the extra time in each day I gain to walk the dog, work in the garden or just read. Baseball was the first one I just cut out of my life after growing up obsessing about statistics. But watching baseball has always been far more boring than playing it. The strikes sealed the deal for me. I was ticked in 72 and stopped following it at all in 81.

Football lost me when I read about how concussions had led to brain damage for Junior Seau which was very damaging to his life after he stopped playing and led to suicide. No more concussion ball for me, thank you. My garden has never looked better.

I've always admired the skills and athleticism of basketball players but all the wrangling over how to televise games is turning me off big time. I'd signed up for DISH for the coverage for my local team. But now the cost just to watch on television - to say nothing of the hassle of searching through all the possible carriers - has relegated me to just following results and highlights. A divorce from the sport may be in my future.

I enjoyed watching basketball the most because I'd played more of that in parks growing up and in early adulthood. I find I soccer or world football very satisfying to watch but my lack of background actually playing it outside of PE classes diminishes my appreciation and interest.

Oh well.

I never watch sports on TV nor do I ever look at it on the media or newspapers. Why? I don't like it being shoved down my throat. Sports teams are owned by the rich and I got no time to "give a hoot" which team is going to win what game.

I do care about the weather, inflation, increasing crime, global warming, the coming World War III and the price of groceries. I care about my life not about some team winning or losing some "BIG" game. Why is it always some "BIG" game. Don't they ever have any normal games?

Well stated!

You can all ways turn the sound down to zero, and watch. I do that with the NASCAR races.
Yes, I do that, and zoom in the screen so as not to see the annoying scrolling news taking up most of the bottom of the screen, showing scores of everything going on lol! I have had many recorded games ruined by that, so I had to delete them after seeing, or hearing the score.

Aussie Rules coverage often shows the scores of other games being played on left corner of screen.

Easy enough to put a piece of black tape on the screen to block it out if you dont want to know or want to watch that game later.

Not sure why you would be recording games t o watch later if you don't like watching sport though

So, you're losing interest, but you're recording the games?

Also, the scrolling scoreboard is the greatest invention ever.

I use to be a NASCAR fan big time. Commercial after commercial and those southern boys yakking all the time. It use to be fun when the “good ole boys” raced.
NFL turned me off somewhat when a guy made a touchdown and answered a phone he hid behind the goal post and after they make a good run, they point towards the goal post. At least they know which way to go..
College basketball and football all the way now.

How can anyone lose interest in sports? I have always followed 4 sports.

1. Baseball (New York Yankees)
2. College Basketball (St. John's Red Storm/Big East)
3. NFL (Dallas Cowboys/New York Jets)
4. Hockey (New York Islanders)

I have long since lost interest in the NBA, college football, any kind of car racing. I simply can't believe there are still people who watch that phony wrestling.
