Not fun news from the doc

I was diagnosed with borderline Type II diabetes, some years ago. Do not take meds .. control it with proper diet.

Metformin was originally prescribed, but my system couldn't tolerate it.
Yes I have also taken that and it brought a whole host of other problems.
Blessed: 6.7 is not that high. When I first found out I had Diabetes my sugar read 25. Doctor said he had seen some people around 70. Worrying about it only makes things worse. Get in touch with someone from the Diabetic Association, here in Sydney they were there to help me with Diet and exercise, walking was my saviour. I didn't like it at first and bought myself a step counter and went from puffing and blowing walking but
that soon stopped as I tried to better my distance every day. The weight started to slowly come off and after a couple of years I had lost 25kgs. That was
15 years ago, I still have Diabetes, but it is well under control. You can do it!!!!!
I would be more than happy to walk but after the hip replacement I can barely go fifteen minutes on my feet. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.

@Blessed Can you pull up a podcast? Iheart radio, or sometimes your phone has a podcast app.
I recommend 'The Happy Diabetic' He is a diabetic and chef that has learned how to control his diabetes and still enjoy food. You could probably find him on YouTube. Very positive, kind man.
It was one of the things that helped me when my A1c was going up.

I don't have a cell phone but maybe I can find it on the net or you tube. I know how to cook for a diabetic but does call for a lot of planning and prep if you don't want to live on chicken and a salad. I had to learn to cook for his diabetes, a dear friend that stayed with me, It was a lot of work.

See if you are eligible for some help by contacting your local office of the aging. There are many programs for seniors that nobody tells you about until you look. You could have an aide come in and help you with the cleaning and whatever you need. I too am basically alone. My son is disabled so I am the one taking care of him not the other way around. I was the one to care for everyone else and I still am. Sometimes it is too much for me. I take a break and then back to it.

As for the diabetes, all I can say is try eating a keto diet for 90 days. So many people in my keto groups have got their health back (and some very quickly) just by following it and sticking to it. The key is to live the keto lifestyle forever. It does give you your life back.

Yes. You could get the podcast on the net.

Blessed, Lovely Lady I'm sending you big hugs and a special Timmy smile.

Many of the members have said the things I would have said only they said them better.

You are important and wanted here amongst your friends. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 😊

I would not qualify for an aid, I don't think. I will talk to the doctor about it. I have the financial means but I don't have trust of strangers in my home.

Yes, like you I was always the caregiver, now that I need help, I am all alone tryng to get it done. No one understands the amount of pain I deal with on a daily basis. I am not nor have been a lazy person. I just physically can't do the things I have always done.

@katlupe , I guess I will start this morning with what my friend and me called the gargage plate. Scrambled eggs with lots of veggies mixed in, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach. He also wanted some cheese in his, we both used salsa for a little zip.

I had already planned on tostados today. corn tortilla baked not fried, refried beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, seems pretty safe to me . I know you would not eat the tortilla.

I always think of beans of any sort as safe but I don't know if that is true..

I'll advise you as I learned from my mother who used to get on her hands & knees to scrub the baseboards: LOOK THE OTHER WAY.

It's not as important as you think. It's different now, ease in.
No, I don't do that, I may in the kitchen but in the rest of the house I just sweep the baseboards with a broom before I vacuum. I always wanted one of those full house systems where you just sweep everything over to the opening and bam, it is gone.

While once a strong person but I have used it all up. I need to pass the torch. I need help, I am tired, I am depressed for many years. I have held on and continued the fight through the bad stuff, I admit defeat. I will do the best I can but in truth, I am ready to go, Life ends for all of us, when the pain and struggle are just too much, hopefully God will come and lift us in to his arms and take us home so we can no longer suffer and return to our families in happen.

As for sleep, I sleep late at nite and get up when I feel like it. That's it and it's ok. Sleeping pills make trying to sleep worse. I usually stay in bed till noon. What's the difference? Accept yourself and do what you feel good doing.
... and sleeping pills (or any med that affects the brain) is not good for our poor brains. And your vision --so fragile at our age and so easily lost with diabetes.

Diabetes is far more serious if you have other internal medical problems. I am borderline and give up most candy
limit my rice, bread and other high carbo foods. (Anyway, chewy candy and soda are rough on your teeth)Got used to it, and perhaps you can bring the score to 6.00 which is borderline. Borderline is very common and you live on easily.

The side effects are worse than the problem.

She said it was an abdominal injection.

Ah, no. The side effects are minimal and the benefits are vast.

The weekly injection is not restricted to the abdomen, but it's probably the easiest location to self-administer. It's a simple as pushing a button and it's a minor sting. It's not a giant needle sticking into your guts like a Rabies shot.

From my own experience, you cannot make a diagnosis from a single test. I've had too many nurses picking up on a single high reading, but ignoring the 'normal' ones. The readings can vary wildly depending if the test is 'fasting' or 'random'. 6.7 is not bad for a single test. Sometimes I think docs and nurses just want to scare us.
How do you know that the diagnosis is based on a single test?

No, the A1C has been creeping up for years as has my weight. Having a hip replacement and quitting smoking at the same time didn't help. Some extra issues keep me from being as active anymore.
Managing your diabetes isn't as hard as it seems. The doc will give you an *avoid* list, but it would serve you well to talk to someone who has diabetes or join a Facebook group or any diabetes club on a social platform, because doctors are almost always way too conservative or strict with that list.
