OK, fuzzybuddy, you've been to "girlie sites" send us $1900

Got an email with my name and address, and phone number on it. It threatens to come to my house, because they have proof I've been to "girlie sites". Apparently, they embedded a tracer app in the sexy site, which lead to them finding me. Then it gets extremely abusive and threatening. Of course, I'm supposed to send them $1,900 in bit coins.
If I had been to a "girlie" site, who cares. It's not like there will be an irate mob, with pitchforks, coming after me.

This is an extremely abusive, and definitely threatening email scam. What got me was the scammers had my name, address, phone number and email address. This is much more insidious than the old Nigerian prince scam.

I've had these in my junk mail as well.. they say they caught me looking at Porn sites by watching me through my monitor camera...

Well they must have been watching someone else..lol..I just delete and block

Don't respond at all. They might be just trying to find out if they have valid information.

Sadly people fall for scams like that.
Nope, I wouldn't respond. But I was surprised how threatening, and verbally abusive the email is. If they didn't get bit coins within 24 hrs., they were going to post my "girlie" site to all my contacts. I can see how that could unnerve some, who fell for this scam.

Must be a lucrative audience. :)

As interestingly, I always cover my laptop camera with a tiny
piece of paper taped, so that NO ONE can access my camera
or see anything I am doing. Gotta be smarter than them lol
So proven, I cannot be observed via my computer or laptop
cameras.
Ok, so what are you doing that you want to hide? :ROFLMAO:

Yes, same here...very disturbing, particularly since I thought I had pretty tight security practices. Not sure what more I can do....

It’s a well known scam.

I got a notice from "the FBI" once that child porn had been found on my computer and I was going to be arrested shortly. However, I could just pay a "fine" of $495 and everything would be taken care of. There were instructions on how to pay the fine. I wonder if keeping the amount down to less than $500 saves them from prosecution if they get caught, like shoplifting out in California seldom gets prosecuted if it's less than $900 or some amount.

I put the scam email and the actual FBI home page up on a split screen and darned if they weren't identical. Somebody did a great job of replicating the FBI page.

I just forwarded the email on to the FBI fraud site and never heard anything more.

Time to play devil's advocate.

What's wrong with visiting "girly sites"? I'm old, not dead.

The same thing happened to me several years ago. It was very threatening. I printed it out and showed it to the police who told me to ignore it and change my e-mail code. That's what I did and I never heard anything from them again.

But it would be fun to email back saying something like, "mmm...you're so spicy. I love that about you. What are you wearing?"

No, it does not. # 1, they are impersonating the F.B.I., a crime in and of itself, #2, the dollar amount, big or small, does not matter, it is still a crime.

Well you realize this is the rough equivalent of shaking your fist at the clouds, right? You're lucky the cops didn't check to make sure that some responsible adult takes care of you.

I'm not pointing fingers, but guess I'd never realized how deep paranoia and conspiracy theories run. It must be difficult to live in such constant fear. Have you tried turning off the network "news" and alarmist shows?

What guilt people must harbor to make them fear discovery and atonement!
