Sweden is sending out five million pamphlets to residents urging them to prepare for the possibility of war, with instructions on how to stockpile food and even seek shelter during a nuclear attack, as fears grow of a conflict between Russia and NATO.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Stockholm has repeatedly urged Swedes to prepare both mentally and logistically for a possible conflict, citing the worsening security situation in its vicinity.

It comes as tensions between Moscow and the West have escalated to new heights after Joe Biden gave Kyiv the green light to blast targets deep inside Russia with US-supplied long-range missiles, which Donald Trump's son has criticised as making sure 'they get WWIII going before my father has a chance to create peace

The booklet 'If Crisis or War Comes', sent out by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), contains information about how to prepare for emergencies such as war, natural disasters, cyber attacks and terrorism.

'An insecure world requires preparedness. The military threat to Sweden has increased and we must prepare for the worst - an armed attack,' its new introduction states.

In one of the more worrying excerpts, which harks back to advice given by governments during the darkest days of the Cold War, it informs people of the risk of nuclear weapons.

'The global security situation increases the risks that nuclear weapons could be used. In the event of an attack with nuclear, biological or chemical weapons, take cover in the same way as in an air attack,' the pamphlet instructs readers.

Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said that as the global context had changed, advice to Swedish households had to be reviewed to reflect the reality of the situation

It is always best to be prepared, imo. Not sure a pamphlet from a government about the sky falling... is really necessary. There is a fine line between suggesting people be prepared for possible scenarios and spreading fear. I understand Finland is doing similar warnings.
 

One can download this highly recommended 86 minute long 2010 documentary mpeg video, After Armageddon, from the following website that was a bit less than 400 megabytes, so took about 5 minutes to do so. If so, most people, especially in urban regions, will be unprepared and likely die in just a short few weeks. They will die from starvation, murder by desperate others, and criminal armed gangs, seeking food, guns and ammunition, water, gold, gasoline, and attractive women.

It is a dramatized documentary video with narration that is occasionally shown on The History Channel (cable tv) and or Story Television (broadcast OTA). Can also be purchased from Amazon at higher video quality. Very highly recommended in our fragile world that IMO could easily descend into dystopian chaos from war, viral pandemics, or economic chaos.

For example, Joseph Tainter recalls how other apparently strong and stable societies were set off balance by surprise events, whether famine, disease, or attack by superior military forces. According to the "collapsitarians" like Prof. Tainter, Jared Diamond, James Howard Kunstler, and others, social breakdown can proceed more quickly than most people realize. Essential services like electricity, water, food, and security that are taken for granted during normal times take on new important during crisis times.

This documentary is very informative and demonstrates the value of active participation in politics and media, advocating for better funding for FEMA, DOE, Department of Agriculture, the National Guard, and other future-oriented government agencies. At the same time, the scenarios described also show the need for Americans to develop more self-reliance, the value of saving money, and the importance of building up relationships and cooperative networks at the local level.

Finland handed Russia some heavy heavy losses in 1939’s Winter War. Finns don’t play, they sent many Russian soldiers back to their homeland without their ballbags too. Ouch!! Turns out you don’t mistreat the beautiful Finnish ladies and get away with it. (You won’t find this in the history books but all true!)
 
Putin is rapidly heading to get the red-hot shaft/staff. Most likely most all his stuff is hidden in offshore dark accounts.
The next guy in line isn't interested in wrecking it all. He will search for the money and stuff!
 
Now where did I put my soapbox? Aw, there it is.

The people of the USA are a very diverse lot, probably more so than Europeans. We are very regional-think of the differences between Florida and Alaska. Alligators vs Polar bears and everything in between.

Add in the last two generations we have produced seem to be extremely ignorant, down right stupid, and totally concerned with themselves. Then raise prices and teach everyone to say it’s the “economy”; but these people can barely add; and if penned down, have no idea what the economy actually is or how it works. In fact, no one understands how the economy works anymore. IMO.

Add to this mix big bad Russia. We, most of the world, have been trained to believe Russia bad, USA and allies good. Convince everyone that Ukraine is all that stands between the USA, the allies, and Russia. Convince the world, and yourselves, that USA will protect you. Join NATO. Ops, blue team didn’t win.

The world just might have to protect itself. Yup, by all means get prepared. For, in my opinion, another world wide depression will happen soon. Nope it does not. Looks like it will. World War 3, hmm, a possibility sure. But I doubt it. The end of the world, hmm, a possibility? Yup.

But WW3. Probably not. We cannot afford a war. Our war supplies, the supplies of the USA, are depleted. We have supplied Ukraine, we have supplied Israel. Our money is depleted, the money we give is borrowed, a lot borrowed from China, I think. USA is in debt for trillions of dollars. I seriously doubt we will go to war. We don’t have the money. We have a lot of domestic issues that require money.

But, think on this, we have a lot nukes. Those nukes are already paid for and waiting. We don’t give those to anyone. Think on this, we are the ONLY country to actually use nuclear weapons and we used them when a very sane stable person was President.

I think European countries should do whatever they feel is best for them. But they should think long and hard before involving the USA in anything. The American people, as a whole, seem to be a bit unhinged. The American people are very unhappy with the price of eggs.

Anyway, just my opinion.

I agree. There's a lot of infighting in the Kremlin....covert, of course. But it's possible "the next guy" will be even worse for the Russian people than Putin. Because, yes, he will likely steal everything from them, possibly after a very bloody purge.
 
Yeah I have heard this 'sky is falling' for many many years. Both in the news and even behind the scenes. Just a few years ago a Portugese NATO intelligence officer that we knew all of a suddenly sent his wife and kids back to Portugal from the NATO contingent in Poland. He said he has heard chatter and credible intel that the Ukraine war was going to spread to Poland and beyond.

Well here we are now and once again the sky is falling. I don't believe anyone will do anything stupid as it would be the end of the world as we know it. If 1 nuke goes, 5000 go. Standard policy in all nuclear armed countries.

As for these ballistic missles, 2 questions....who the heck is the US to authorize anything? Why is no one asking that question. And, I guarantee Ukraine will never fire one, as the response would be catastrophic.
