Sweden tells citizens to prepare for WAR

It was extremely foolish by Finland and Sweden to become part of the NATO. I know of the war between the Sovjet Union and Finland during WW 2, but for the last years Finland had good connections to Russia, even with their people shopping and working on both sides of the border. And Sweden had nothing to fear of Russia too.

Personally I think it’s very smart of those two countries. Why rely on Russia’s goodwill not to invade and conquer. Ask Poland how fun it was to be under a communist dictator. I have relatives there and they are thrilled to be a part of NATO.

I was across the Helsinki - Leningrad border in 1976 when it was still the USSR and the cross border shopping was very good.

What does the Cold War have to do with Sweden? Nothing at all. We, the people of Sweden are not "thrilled" in the least about becoming NATO. Now look what has happened to us because of it. We are now up to our eyebrows in the brown stuff.

Not foolish at all, imo. Sensible is what it is. You truly have to appreciate the scars of the WW2 on Europe. The British are still, in places, suspicious of the Germans! Russia is aggressively attacking a European nation, and it has the capability to escalate to all of Europe. No single country can defend itself alone. Even Russia itself has not been able to defend its borders.

Joining NATO offers protection, and defrays the cost of doing so. It's a deterrent in that an attack on a NATO country means you attack all members. Just as nuclear weapons are a deterrent, so is membership to NATO. No-one trusts a country that invaded another for no good reason.

And you believe that Sweden is MORE likely to be invaded or go to war, because it's a member of NATO?

Is that because you think you could sit out a war in Europe, with modern weapons, if a WW3 should occur? Or do you think you're more a target because Russia might choose to attack you now?

? I don't understand your response. Neither you nor I have the power to change anything in real terms. Our opinions though, in isolation, are fine for discussion. No? I'm just trying to understand your point of view.
