I developed a healthy respect for spiders after watching one make it's way over my ceiling, to the ceiling fan and back the way it came, probably going outside the way it got in. I'm not afraid of spiders and with one exception, do not kill them. The exception was my husband brought his daughters used mini washing machine which had been in storage and didn't clean it out. A daddy long legs emerged and I didn't know WTH to do with it, so I killed it. One time one of my step sons came at me with a spider thinking he would scare me. After he saw he that I wasn't afraid, he started to kill it but I asked him not to.
I live on the first floor of an co-op complex surrounded by dirt and grass. Spiders used to get in here often. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a couple of bites over the years because they were different than mosquito bites. When looking them up online, they did indeed look like spider bites. Management finally started having the Orkin man spray the property monthly. Since that started I've noticed that I haven't seen spiders and centipedes (which I absolutely hate) in here in quite a while.
