Ukraine incursion into Russian territory catches them by surprise.

Much as I hate to say this, I think Ukraine's run as an independent nation is nearly at an end.

With Putin's massive ego at stake, he'd turn Ukraine into a wasteland, sacrifice tens of thousands of Russian/NK soldiers and destroy the Russian economy before backing down. Not that he'll need to.

Russia only needs to minimize and endure Ukranian incursions until Jan 20th when US support for Ukraine will all but evaporate if campaign promises are kept.

They'll be independent but minus land. Russia might too because the incursion area was a little tougher to retake and secure than first thought. The fact that Russia is taking 10,000 plus troops from North Korea and getting supplied by countries like Iran and China tells me Russia doesn't have the resources or military to take the entire country or others themselves.

He was hoping to intimidate them into submission 2 years ago with raw numbers and it didn't work and took them too long to adjust. Putin has had to pull generals out of retirement and relies too heavily on mercenaries like the Wagner group.

The 'meat grinder' shows how low Putin has gone and IS ie desperate.

If Putin orders a nuke strike on the Ukraine odds, well it will land at his place.

Accepting the will of a Free people to discover their destiny, well its part of the USA Constitution.
The will to be free to decide the peoples destiny is what this place is all about. Not some despot,
dictator / lil Con poc. . The all take a crap and piss in a hole. Sure their hands are very filthy also.

Given the Russia’s economy is the same size as Italy‘s with 3X the population, it must already be straining. The inflation rate is 10%. Butter is locked up in stores. Mr. Putin is using North Koreans as cannon fodder since the Russian people must be getting sick of their number of men returning home in a casket or without a limb or eye or whatever.

NATO also added two small but very competent militaries thanks to this war. Now that he’s launched a ballistic missile at Ukraine that will continue to scare the heck out of Europe and hopefully make them face up to their pathetic defenses. Relying so much on America is no longer a great option. (Wake up, Europe!)

Remember Ukraine is right next door to Russia. One shift in the wind and all that radiation crosses the border into Russia. I wonder what the Russian populace will think then?

One good thing, the North Koreans have 10,000 fewer mouths to feed for now.

I am perplexed as to why Putin doesn’t end this war. With the air might that he has, he should be able to destroy Ukraine in less than 24 hours. Their AirPower is only second to the U.S. Russia has the fastest plane, but we have the highest technology and armaments on some of our planes that no country would dare to fight us by air. Maybe he fears the number of civilians that would be killed. The world would probably demand that ge be tried in a tribunal court for killing so many civilians.

He could be tried in the ICC and charged with genocide. I’m just guessing if that would happen, but I remember during the Clinton War in Bosnia, the leader, whose name slips me was charged with genocide for similar attacks, I believe. It’s all spelled out in the Geneva Convention, War Crimes.

The F-35 has just about any piece of technology equipment that can be put on a plane, not to mention its armaments. The plane has Stealth and Harrier ability and can carry enough missiles to blow Moscow to nothing. It’s an unbelievable piece of equipment. I also had heard that we have a plane that is unknown to the world that is above the F-35.

We also have the F-15 Strike Eagle that flies at Mach 2.5, which is almost 1900 mph. Our Air Force is well stocked. Now that’s a plane I would like to fly in.

What do you think his goal is? What is it you think his idea of "ending" it would be? If Ukraine would recognise the Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk and stop fighting there would that be "an end to the war" according to Putin?

Ukraine has valuable resources Putin would like to preserve and cash-in on.

I'd love to see that thing in action.

(I've only seen demonstration flights)

Putin likely expected Zelenskyy to be so intimidated by Mother Russia's superior armed forces that he'd turn over the keys to Ukraine with very little ado.

While he is likely to eventually prevail in Ukraine, it will almost certainly be a costly ongoing endeavor. Irksome pockets of resistance will vandalize equipment, kill troops, and otherwise thwart Russia's occupation/control.

Nah. The only reason Ukraine is using military might is because they've been invaded.

Putin is a dictator, and he struggles when his control doesn't extend beyond Russia's borders. He's not good for the people of Europe, the people of Russia, and the world in general. The "special operations" line is a PR scam. He does not care how many Russians and North Korean soldiers die. He won't even tell Russians how many have been lost. The ultimate gain for them is minimal in the big picture.

What the war has done is expose just how bad the Russian military is. Ukraine borders Russia. Russia was painted as being advanced and over-whelming in power and force. Yet here we are, over a 1000 days later, and they've gained a minimal amount of ground. It's embarrassing. It's like the US failing to take Alaska. The cost to Russia is huge, whilst the cost to Ukraine is shared among nations. It truly is a very very sad display from Russia. Who knows what the reaction of the people would be if they knew the true cost both in human, and monetary terms.
