Reflections of My Life

The sky was beautiful this morning as the sun was coming up. Lately before I turn on my computer, after my devotional time, I have been reading a book. It seems to be the best time since there is no distractions that early in the day. Presently I am almost finished with Dr. Georgia Ede's groundbreaking book, Change Your Diet Change Your Mind. I knew even before I started reading her book that keto could possibly help my son but he would never do it. If I locked him up with only the food I provided then maybe. The trouble with helping others when you know how, is that they won't cooperate. Well, that's life.

Today the elevator repairman is supposed to come here to work on our elevator. I just looked out the window as I am writing this.........and there is the elevator repairman carrying his tools on his way to the ramp! Happy!

This morning I don't feel like I can do a lot of walking but sometimes I feel that way in the morning. After my coffee, I feel better and my walking improves. I have meat to vacuum pack this morning after my neighbors get up. I hate to make so much noise when I know they are not up yet. They sleep much later than I do. I am up usually around four at least. This afternoon I plan on getting started on my laundry. Maybe not all of it since I am way behind. Not pressuring myself anymore to do everything in one day.

I am proud of myself today..........vacuum packed the meat, vacuumed the apartment and did my laundry. I did it little by little. So I managed just fine. The padlock I ordered for Jeff's storage locker came today. So now it has a lock on it even though he doesn't have anything in it yet. The maintenance man had been putting locks on all the empty ones because people were putting stuff in them even though they were not their's. Some I think were their friends' things. I wanted to make sure Jeff had his reserved for him.

Tomorrow we are having our "Girl Talk" coffee hour.

I tried shaved steak for the first time last night for supper. It was delicious! I sauteed it in butter with garlic & onion powder and salt. I thought it was going to be like Steakumms. It was not, much better. A new thing to add to my meal roster.

Another new food I tried and liked is the Good Culture cottage cheese. It has 3 carbs in half a cup and 14 grams of protein. I have missed cottage cheese but other brands are full of bad ingredients. This one has the live cultures like yogurt has. Creamier, so a different texture. There have been a lot of new keto/carnivore recipes recently using cottage cheese as a main ingredient to make various breads, rolls & muffins. So I am looking forward to experimenting with it.

Today I want to order a couple of new pairs of compression stockings. Mine have become stretched out. Really I have to replace them about twice a year and that is stretching it as long as I can.

Yes I agree shaved steak is good. My grandson recommended it to me.

I'm going to look for your Good Culture cottage cheese! You mentioned making breads with it. Reminded me of someone who made what she called "dilly bread". I never had it, but recall she made it with cottage cheese and dill. It sounded good to me.

Here's a recipe I found- (I hope you like dill)

.. and the Dill Bread is an easy recipe too.

The studios in my condo building are 450 sq ft but I have 2 tiny dogs. It’s good that you have 2 closets. It would definitely be a problem here for me not to have a car. The ride share companies don’t allow pets in the car and I need to go to the vet regularly which is quite a distance and not available by bus. The cheapest grocery store is also fairly far away.

Looks like a good recipe but it is not low carbs. Has both sugar and flour which I don't use. The keto recipes I think use cheese, eggs and cottage cheese. I love dill! In fact my home made low carb ranch dressing has dill in it. Here is one recipe and it only uses 2 ingredients. Cottage Cheese & Eggs.

It isn't easy living without a car especially since I always had a car. But it was a smart decision for me here. I wouldn't be able to afford one.

I started feeding Rabbit more hay through out the day. It is good for him and saves me from having to buy more spring mix. But.........as you can imagine it is messy. I have to vacuum about every other day but I don't mind. Today I stayed in my apartment all day. Just didn't feel like going outside or anywhere else. That doesn't mean I didn't talk to anyone because I had three different people come to my door not counting my son who was here twice. And my friend called me and we talked about an hour on the phone.

Today I will definitely being going out of my apartment. I have a grocery delivery scheduled sometime from 11-1. Need to go out to the dumpster. I want to get a new blog finished so it can be published. Plus a pile of papers I need to sift through. Still haven't set up the dvd player yet for evenings. So going to do that for sure. I am not familiar with the remote to it and need to use it a few times.

My knee is hurting a lot and I think that is because I have not been very active. So when I go out to the dumpster I will include a walk out front. I need to be able to walk Saturday so I can walk to the county office building to the board of elections to vote early. It is not very far.

I had to order more groceries today because Rabbit is already out of bananas and low on spring mix!!!! He is a eating machine! That happens with most animals in fall. The bananas have been very green and small. I mean maybe 5 inches long at the most. The last time I ordered the food from Aldi's because I thought it was just Walmart. Nope. And that grocery order specified 4 bananas and I only got 3 in the order. The trouble with green bananas is that Rabbit smells and smells them and acts like he doesn't like them. Once they ripen a bit, he starts to like them more. Fussy rabbit!

Kat, put a wrap/brace around your knee, that should help. Enjoy your day :)

Well today is Friday and every day this week I thought it was Saturday. Truthfully the day of the week does not seem to affect me or my life. Monday usually was my favorite day due to the post office or banks being open. Most of my mail is junk mail so I don't even go downstairs to check it. This Saturday though I will be walking to the county office building and I am looking forward to that. The last time I had to walk any distance was to the foot doctor and after I did that, the next day my ability to walk seemed so much better.

So I KNOW...........that is what I should be doing! Walking more often and longer distances. Why don't I? Not sure. Maybe just comfortable sitting in my apartment at my computer.

It is funny that with all the money fakebook has their site is not as user friendly as Senior Forums is. I really like that button to make the page go up and not have to scroll it up. Which on fb is very annoying. The other thing I like is the limit on how many words can be in a paragraph. I like that because I tended to not read a whole post when it was too long and in one paragraph. My eyes could not take it.

You know that thread about living with a son's family and not getting along with the daughter-in-law? When my parents were newly married my father's parents (my grandparents) lived with them. My mother did not get along well with my grandmother. My grandmother was Polish and barely spoke any English so that was a problem. My grandmother kept wanting to do the cooking or cleaning and my mother wanted to do it herself, her way.

My grandmother complained to my father that she wanted to make a dessert and my mother would not let her. So my father asked my mother to let her make something. She did. My mother told me how my grandmother would do all the cooking and cleaning at my aunt's house and would not even sit down to eat with the family. She would keep running back and forth to the kitchen getting things on or off the table. So when she came to our house she thought she was giving her a rest from that. She may have been newly married but her whole life she had been cooking and cleaning in her family's home. It was a problem and my grandparents left to move in with my aunt.

My feet tend to swell so I wear compression socks. I usually have to replace them about the same as you do. Amazon, of course..

I buy mine on BrightLife Direct. The brand I like is Jobst. I have a discount code for 10% off. I believe they are now covered by insurance if you have a doctor's order for them. Which I will talk to the doctor about that next time I see her. I need another order from her to go back to my Lymphedema therapist. Once you have a diagnosis it seems to be silly that you have to have a new order every 6 months or so.

This looks amazing! I can't see it as "bread" tho', but rather as a delicious egg and cheese dish more like an omelet. I may make this, and flavor with dried dill. Thanks, Kat.

Kat...did you learn Polish from your grandmother ?...just realised your maiden name must be Polish...do you have x's y's and zz's in your name ?:)

Sadly, I never met grandmother. She died before my brother or I was born. My father's whole family spoke Polish. In fact, my father only spoke it until he started school. My other grandmother spoke English but mostly Slovak when her family was around. But no, I never learned it. Maybe if my parents hadn't moved us to FL when they did I would have. I missed out on those years with my grandparents.

My original last name was Drankoski. Then my father shortened it to Dran when I was still a baby. He was in business and did not want to be discriminated against. At that time people made fun of everyone.

I spent the day cleaning and organizing my kitchen counter area. And some of the cupboards. I could not stand the cluttery look of keeping my most used items on the counter. Even on the corner rack they were an eyesore to me. I will use the rack somewhere else sometime. So weird to me that I can start doing something like that and then all of a sudden I have to go sit down and put my feet up. Frustrating! It looks much nicer now.

I am going through my recipes to find only the ones with 5 ingredients or less. Easy ones. Simple ones. The ones that use the least amount of pans, bowls and dishes. I am not making meals and freezing leftovers anymore either. Well maybe if it was meatballs or something like that. If I eat a normal breakfast of bacon and eggs by the time supper rolls around I am just not that hungry. If I eat only eggs or only bacon, then I am just waiting for supper and make it early.

My bunny boy though............is ALWAYS hungry!

Reading the post about the home invasion reminds me what happened to my friend who lives under me. She had a friend who had been a foster daughter of her mother's at some point in her life. She was a young woman and would help my friend sometimes. Well one day when she was there she stole her keys and had copies made and came back and put the original keys back on her hook. One night when my friend was sleeping she came into her apartment and stole her purse, her prescriptions and the keys to her car. Stole the car which had her walker in it.

She knew who did it because they looked at the video and saw the woman unlock the front door to the building with the key and then unlock her apartment door. Her and the car were missing for four days. Then she wrecked it (totaled it) and police picked her up. When my friend went to look at her car and get her stuff out of it (at the state police barracks) she found drugs in the front seat. The cops hadn't even found them and they were right there!

It was difficult for her to replace all her stuff in her wallet, her prescriptions (were a nightmare replacing) and she had to wait for months to get the insurance to replace her car. They said she had to wait till the girl went to court. She did and she got 3 years. I don't know if she had to pay her back she never said.

I sleep in my recliner so I am right here and can see my door. If anyone gets off the elevator I hear them. I would wake up in an instant because I don't take any drugs so I am alert. Even Rabbit can wake me up. We have to be careful these days.

I walked to the county office building to vote this morning! I was not sure I could do it. First of all when I went outside it started to rain and get real windy. So I came back inside. Then the sun came out.........so back I went. It was a very tough walk. My knee was tight and heavy. I was able to sit down inside the door and someone brought me a ballot because the voting was downstairs. There were about 3 machines near where I was sitting to put the ballots in to do the voting.

Then the park was packed with people. A Halloween event I guess because people, adults, kids & dogs were in costumes. The usual booths selling food and crafts. Way over priced for me. So I looked for my friend but did not see her so came home. I got my exercise for today.

I worried about whether you elevated your legs regularly but didn't want to be nosy. I see from a couple of posts ago that you do.
But I do hope you are supporting your knees by placing firm cushions under them. It really helps me.

I thought I was going to have to replace my television. Last night I was watching YT videos and all of a sudden the screen was neon green. I turned it off and on. Still green. This morning it was still green. So I looked through Amazon and did some research on those televisions that work with the fire stick. I think they are Fire TV. So Just a little while ago I put in the search engine neon green television screen and I saw it might not be the television. It might not be broken. I followed their directions and took the fire stick out and unplugged the tv. When I came back to put it all back in it worked! Perfectly! I fixed it myself!

Thank you for worrying about me!

I am going to put my feet up in a few minutes before I have to do my bunny's cage. I feel like I need a rest.

More than exercise, another victory!

You do amazingly well to keep reasserting your independence and breaking down barriers. 🤗
