Reflections of My Life

Well Rabbit and I were very snug and cozy due to no cold air coming in around the windows. It was worth doing it and my shoulders were in horrible pain from reaching up. No pain this morning though.

Emergency squad came in the middle of the night and took my neighbor out. Praying he will be okay. His health is not good and he smokes on top of that. Always coughing and it sounds bad bad.

I have a bunch of things to do today. Hopefully, I will get a walk outside in. I love the fall weather and need to walk. This morning I got my bills paid and had already paid Jeff's. So that is done.

Beautiful morning here today! Sun is shining and sky is blue. 61 degrees which is rare in November in NY. I think I will have a lazy day since I didn't go to bed till after 2 AM! Sonny & I were on the phone for hours watching the election results together (in a way..........he in his house and me in mine). I got a new adult coloring book, Steampunk, and I am eager to get into it. I love this brand called "Color-It" because it is spiral and the pages are really thick. So planning on listening to music, my new Barry Manilow CD and coloring.

Even though our temperatures have not been that cold the last few days the blackout curtains keep us warm in here at night. I can tell by my Rabbit's ears if he is cold and they have not been cold at all. I still want light coming in after I am up so I open the middle curtains and that works.

Today is the day the food from the central food bank delivers boxes of food to everyone here (who signs up for it). I don't get it but I sign my son up for it and when it comes I take it up to his apartment. It comes in handy for him and he does use it. I have a supply of canned food that he eats in my cupboard so when he needs food I have it. If I gave it all to him he would go through it too fast. I buy this food early in the month with his money.

So Rabbit needed more spring mix and bananas today. I ordered it to be delivered from 11-1 today. He eats more when the weather gets cooler. I think all animals do that. My cats and horses all did. I am enjoying that horse channel I told you about. I love hearing the sound of horses munching on their hay. Reminds me of working in my garden and the only sounds were the birds and my horses eating their hay.

Thirty degrees this morning. Feels good to me. I turned the heat up a couple of notches to warm my bunny boy up. Have not opened the curtains yet so couldn't really see first light except for at the top of the windows. I can hear the city sounds of the morning though. A bird in the distance and the garbage truck. I feel sorry for the apartments on the bottom floor on that side of the building. The garbage truck comes early and is super loud. It doesn't bother me so much from my position but I hear it every day.

It seems strange to me, and did when I first moved here, that I do not have to do anything for recycling. I was used to washing out cans and bottles and keeping them in a recycling container. At my house I was used to driving to the landfill and then further separating my cans, glass bottles and containers in different bins. Here, I just throw it all away in the garbage bag together. The truck picks it all up and I think.........not sure on the process but I think the truck has a machine on it that does the separating of recyclables.

I think that process makes it so people don't even think or know about recycling or why it is important. Even if I have to pay more I will choose products in glass jars or bottles. Glass stays colder in the refrigerator. That is why I use canning jars for leftovers and for my drinking water, ice tea and electrolytes as well as other food storage. That is why I bought Mason jar canning jar lids and pour spout lids. Two sets of each. I love them and use them constantly. I think I will have to give them a good review on their product page.

So that's why food keeps better in glass. It's colder!
I have many canning jars and use them for storage. I haven't canned of yet.I am trying to transition from plastic to glass but its a storage problem. I have one of those Rubbermaid sets where everything stacks. My glass jars are on a shelf in the garage, fairly handy.
I think its been discussed on here but my neighbors have trash service and don't separate. I have a part of my garage for recycling. We bring trash and recyclables to the local center. We've done it for thirty plus years. One day that will be one chore I'll give up.

I never knew that they made mason jar pour lids!

They are now on my Christmas wish list!

Thanks, kat!

Hey Kat, 37F here this morning. What makes me laugh is that yesterday, I had the A/C on!

I loved reading about your concern for limiting plastics. I have switched to laundry detergent sheets.
The kind I have, I ordered from Amazon maybe two months ago and still going. But I have seen a few in the grocery store. They are around 16.00 a box. I don't remember the brands just now. When looking at the long aisle of those big, plastic jugs all headed for 'who knows'..... I felt glad I'd stopped contributing to the mess.

The powdered detergents are still available, but much less. So far, I'm satisfied with the perforated sheets. Just thought I'd share. :)

How many sheets to a $16. box?

This was from Amazon. there are others at the stores. The sheets are perforated in half. So, it's either 240 or 120. Sometimes I just use half. I have a large capacity washer, so sometimes I fill it and use both halves. How other brands are constructed , I don't know. I'm just sick of plastic, the heaviness and
paying for water when I can't find powdered detergent.

IMO, they clean well, It's not like I'm working in the gardens anymore. I spot-spray stains anyway, before washing.

Brand Soulink
Item Form Sheet
Scent Lavender
Unit Count 240.0 Count
Material Type Free Phosphate Free, Dye Free, hypoallergenic, Bleach Free, Paraben Free

Do they have an unscented variety?

Recently the company I buy electrolytes from disclosed that one of the ingredients in the "natural flavors" was found to be maltodextrin. I have been using my brand of electrolytes feeling it was safe to use and did not have any sugar or as their website says, "no dodgy ingredients". It turns out that the amount was more than anyone, including me, wants. So I am in the process of putting together my own electrolyte drink. Not eating processed foods any longer on Keto means I need the electrolytes. I just placed an order for a couple of the ingredients I need in my formula.

It is cold outside, in the 30's but the sun is shining bright in my windows and we are warm and cozy in here. I have a couple of deliveries coming today. One is my case of Zevia root beer and one is an order I placed for my friend downstairs. So I am not starting anything until I have received those.

Red sky this morning. Supposed to rain this afternoon so that sounds right. It was beautiful though. I hear the crows making noise out there. As I look out the window I see this really big one marching back and forth across the building next to mine. He is looking for something. I never see the crows on the ground in our yard. Just the pigeons. I love the early morning before anyone else is up and about. Soon they will be though. I got up late this morning. I was having a good dream and did not want to stop it. I will have to see what happens tomorrow morning.

I have been trying to increase my protein and this morning one of my keto YT channels had a recipe on for that. She has just had a knee replacement and needs the extra protein. It is made with cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, collagen peptides, Keto Chow, spices and a sweetener. Comes out like a cheese cake or pudding consistency, Depends on how long you chill it. I can't wait to try it. So I ordered the cottage cheese and yogurt with Jeff's grocery order this morning. Hope they have the exact brands and variety I chose. Otherwise I can't use it.

I try not to get too depressed since I think I will be losing two people on my floor fairly soon. It is one thing that makes it hard to live in a senior or disabled community. I become close to certain ones and eventually lose them. I know how it is since I did lose my parents and my in-laws. Also I worked in nursing homes and lost many as part of my job. Death is hard but it happens and we have to go on. My friend across the hall from me will be a very difficult one. Just try to prepare myself.

Yesterday she came to my door bringing me a beautiful hardcover spiral adult coloring book. Brand new one that she had and never used. She is the one who started the trend among some of us ladies who live here. She received as a gift from her grandson's wife one year an adult coloring book with the gel pens. She said to herself, "a coloring book? For me?" One day she started a picture and was hooked ever since. I watched her coloring every time I went to her apartment and I wanted to do it too. Now I color every day. I love it!

It was 28 degrees when I got up this morning. Turned the heat up again. Got to keep my bunny warm!

Planning on doing laundry today and not sure what else. Maybe nothing. I take my coloring book and gel pens with me and turn on my transistor radio and wait for my machines to finish. It is usually quiet down there. I used to come back upstairs to wait for the machines to finish but figure it is good for me to get out of my apartment for a bit. Gives Rabbit some quiet time to himself.

Today is a busy day for me. Water delivery comes this afternoon. Plus I have to meet with the manager because she messed up on Jeff's deposit. So she might have to replace it herself because she lost it somehow. It is because she was overworked and doing a million things at once. Luckily I have all the stubs of the money orders. But she has not been giving me receipts for our rents or his deposit. She gave me one for his first deposit check (paid $100 a month till it was paid which it is now). So I had that one receipt and that was one that was missing.

I checked and it is a NY state law that landlords have to give tenants rent receipt with certain information on it. So I asked her to give me receipts from now on for Jeff's and my rents.

Then I have more laundry to do. I did one load yesterday but the laundry room was too busy for me. So I just put it in and left. Tomorrow is my hair appointment so I cannot do it until Friday if not today. I will see. Everybody here is working on their Christmas decorations. Not me. I am not decorating at all this year. What is the sense of taking all that stuff out and then having to put it back? I like the look of no clutter and to me that looks like clutter. I will put my four ceramic Christmas decorations out and that will be probably be it.

kat,

Can you use the stub to verify if the money order has been cashed?

If it’s still outstanding they should be able to reissue it.

I’m with you on the Christmas decorations!

Even when I don’t decorate, Christmas sort of sneaks into my apartment in small ways and that is enough for me.

Have a great day!

I did use the stub to verify it. Now she has to either find it or she will replace it. It is totally on her. This is an example of what happens when a person is given too much work to do. She had to manage two buildings and we ended up being neglected because the other one was in worse condition.

I've decided I'll do the same as you this year kat.. I've got no-one coming over the Christmas period, so why bother getting it all out just to have to put it back again?.. I might put a few Fireplace ornaments out, but not sure.. we'll see when the time comes..

Isn't it illegal for employees to be charged for their mistakes? I think it is here, or it used to be. Otherwise, employees would balk at handling cash, valuable machinery etc.

I have no idea on that. Probably won't be telling her boss about it. I am hopeful she will find it. She was not here today.
