DD and I had an adventure this afternoon. We went to AtHome to browse...mmhmm
. That place is acres and acre of everything under the sun.
Of course, the first things inside the door were Christmas trees and decorations of all sorts. Hundreds! Aisle after aisle of every kind of decoration you can dream up. We spent almost two hours wandering the aisles and oohing and aahing over stuff but bought very little. DD got a swag of ornaments to use on her mantel and a pump bottle of a good-smelling lotion. I bought a set of oblong Pyrex storage containers that can be used in the oven.
We proceeded to a very long checkout line. There were about 10 checkout registers, and we were almost up when the fire alarms went off and managers were everdamwhere yelling to evacuate the store. No smoke or anything, just alarms. We looked at each other and abandoned our cart where it was...along with everybody else in the line.
There were fire trucks all around the store but none of the firemen seemed to be in much of a hurry
. We decided to just wait in the car until it was determined to be a big or not-so-big deal and either closed the store or let us back in.
After about 45 minutes, there was an all-clear, the trucks left, and the doors opened. We made a bee-line for our cart (so did everybody else!) and reclaimed our place in line. It took another 45 minutes to reboot their computer system and get the checkout lines started again.
While waiting in line, DD struck up a conversation with the lady behind us who mentioned a 10% off total purchase deal if she signed up online. Did that, of course, and it's good forevermore when we go back to the store.
Anyway, we left home at noon and didn't get home until 4. Whew! We were gonna be real unhappy if that place had closed for the day after spending all that time wandering the aisles.
