Reflections of My Life

Since it is Father's Day I have to share a picture of my father and me taken in the rocky mountains in the early fifties. I would say about 1955 or 56. Not sure what age I was but I know I hadn't started school yet. I know my brother and I were very lucky to have him for our father. He did a lot of things with us and taught us how to do so many things.

My mother and him were in love for their whole marriage, 60 years. It was nothing to us to walk into the kitchen and catch them in each other's arms kissing. They were always like that and when she became crippled, he took care of her and did all the house work and cooking plus a huge garden and watching grandkids. He has been gone since 2012 and I miss him so much.

My friend drove up and picked me up and we went for a ride in the country. We passed by my old house. Not so pretty now except it was really green. Then we drove by 2 of her old houses. I swear she moves more than anyone I have ever known. I think I talked her out of wanting to move back to the country. I know I wouldn't want to do it.

Luckily my grocery delivery got here before my friend called me. So I was able to get everything put away. I will vacuum pack the meat tomorrow. When I came home I cleaned Rabbit's cage and then had black licorice ice cream (Keto Chow). I hadn't eaten anything this morning so I was hungry. Now I am cooking ground beef burgers for my supper.

Lovely for you to get out for a drive, and away from the apartment for an hour or 2 Kat. ..and enjoy the company of your friend as well..

Does you husband still live in your old house ?

Went to the store for a bunch of produce.

Chopped veg and made a pot of veg soup, then baked my salmon with asparagus. Plenty for doggie, too.

Received a ramp for my dog to be able to get into the car. She's afraid of it. We need to practice....

When I had my dog, Nikita she needed a ramp to get onto the deck to go in the house. She was afraid of it too. I would go outside with her in the early morning hours, even if it was freezing and snowing to help her. I had to urge her onto it with a small push. She could go down the stairs from the deck but not go back up. Good thing I was sleeping in the living room by then.

Today the visiting home nurse is scheduled to come see me. Sometime between 12 and 4. She is supposed to call and let me know about what time for sure. I want her to help me arrange transportation to appointments. Also need help getting a oral surgeon. My apartment is all clean and ready for a visitor.

We are under a heat advisory today. Already have my air conditioner on. I have to be careful because heat does bother me a lot. Even wearing compression stockings my feet swell up and get red. I will soak them in cold water if I get too hot. But the air conditioner usually takes care of it.

I got my cooling pad for my laptop yesterday and I loved it immediately. It keeps my computer cool and I don't have to keep turning it off and back on. The pad that sets underneath the computer has 3 fans in it and the frame has legs. So you can set it up higher if you want and I did. So the cool air from the fan blows out from under the keyboard onto my wrists. I really like that!

After having seen my old house on Sunday, I was thinking about how different my life was living there. I was thinking about how I never felt clean. It bothered me so much. I washed my laundry outside in cold (extremely cold because I pumped it right from a shallow well) water. My hands would hurt from the cold water. Sometimes I would try to heat water and have to carry it outside but it was too much for me to do. If I ended up leaving the laundry in the water for very long (hoping it would warm up some) the laundry would get a sour smell to it. I hated it.

Then having to hang the soaking wet laundry on the lines was a horrible job once our pulley line was taken down (husband took the tree down it was hooked up to and never put anything up after that). The lines were out back between two trees and I had to carry the laundry out to them. Soaking wet meant they were heavy. I truly love the laundry room in my apartment building. I appreciate it very much.

My 17 yr old daughter is volunteering at our local library. She needs the hours to graduate. She has embraced it like it being her job now. When I got home from taking her I put my son's heavy jeans on my clothes line. They take FOREVER to dry in dryer. I looked out a few minutes later and the line had broken. Luckily I have some coated wire that looks like it will work much better than that cheap cloth line. I always wire for years that would never break.

A close friend from HS txtd and wants to meet Fri morning for Breakfast in the large Univ town nearby. We both went to college there. He taught middle school English many years until his hearing got too bad. The place we eat breakfast is outstanding. I love the guy. He is a first cousin to the neighbors I grew up beside. The middle school he taught in was a very tough school. Very smart man but like Lewis Grizzard unlucky in love.

My appointment went very well. The visiting nurse was very nice. In fact, she also owns a "house rabbit" and was so surprised when she saw Rabbit come out. She did a bunch of vitals on me and everything was good. She was impressed that I do not have any prescriptions (thank you Keto). She gave me a free gift of a insulated shopping bag that is really nice. Plus UHC will put $50. on my card as a reward for having this appointment. Kind of funny how they pay me for the appointment.

This little one has been around about a month now. He likes the clover and has topped off one of my hostas!

Oh dear, Kat I thought I had gone into my own diary thread...... instead I posted on yours! I am so sorry .

I made cube steaks with gravy for my supper tonight. Very good! I thicken the gravy with cream so it was healthy, still keto.

I think a good business someone should start would be as a repairman for mobility chairs and scooters. My friend was here and her chair arm is leaning way down and needs to be fixed. She said our maintenance man put in a new fixture on it and it worked for awhile but is broke again. He is not experienced on fixing things and is learning on this job. It is just he is not trying. Mostly smoking and talking on his time here.

I got one of those from my insurance, Anthem Blue Cross. I won't let them come to visit but maybe if I did I'd get $50. too!

Good to hear you're doing so well. 🌹
It was not that much of an appointment. She was a nurse practitioner and asked a lot of questions. Checked my pulse, bp, listened to my heart and lungs and measured the blood flow to my legs and hands. I'd do it again for another $50. But she marked down the things I needed help with. Transportation to appointments. A dental surgeon in my area or the transportation to get to one. If I wanted a bed she could have gotten that for me too. There are a lot of things they do for you so as to keep you living in your home because of my age.

No to bad Kat. We get $15 for our UHC house calls. But she did give us each that shopping bag.

It was 72 degrees when I go up at 4 this morning. I shut the air conditioner off when I go to bed because I do not like it blowing on me. Most of the time with the air conditioner on I end up getting cold. I never used to be that way. I could have it on all night long and it was good. Not now. At least it gives the air conditioner a break.

Even though it is hot (for me 72 is hot) I still have to have my coffee hot. It is rare that I ever drink cold coffee or flavored coffee. I have a variety of flavored coffees in the cupboard but rarely have one. When I do I think I could have a regular one........it is just me I guess.

Rabbit is not a cuddler. He does not want to be picked up or held. Last night I held him on my lap anyway. After he settled down a bit, he seemed okay with it. I didn't dare let go of him though because he would have jumped off my lap onto the floor. I don't want him to break a leg or get hurt in some way. He is old for a bunny. 10 years old. As soon as I put him back on the floor he hopped quickly to his cage to use the litter box!
