Reflections of My Life

Today my neighbor (and close friend) across the hall came to my door to get me to go downstairs and get my packages. She was on her mobility chair but she wanted to help me. So she had two packages on her chair and I had the others on my walker. It is nice to have friends!

I planted my bunny garden (indoor herb garden) this morning. Basil, Parsley, Cilantro & Thyme. I planted them for Rabbit. He likes all those plants. I will see how these do. Next thing I have to do is to repot the African violets. I need to get a larger pot for them first.

I did manage to order 2 pots for the African violets. About an inch bigger than the ones they are in. So they will be here in a few days.

Today I have to make some phone calls (which I hate doing....) and then go through another pile of papers that has accumulated on top of my printer. EEEK, where do they come from??? And why do I save them?

I sent that package of pictures to my husband and he sent me back a very polite thank you email. So I have 2 more to send to him and I want to get them out of here. I will see if I have room in my budget for this month to send them out. If not, I will make sure to do it next month. Then I have an afghan to send to him that his mother had made. I want him to have it so I will figure out how to wrap it to mail it. I know all this costs me money but I just cannot donate it and I packed it when I moved and I am not sure why I did that. So my fault.

I have been wanting to walk outside each day but my knee is giving me so much trouble. So I will see if it is any better today. If so, I will try to walk to the park.

I never left my apartment today. No mail. Not much garbage I can wait till morning on that. I just did stuff here that I wanted to do. Should have taken a walk but I didn't. Maybe tomorrow.

The new woman who moved in down the hall last week, the one I helped with turning her oven on was knocking on my door this morning. Was looking for the guy who lives next door??? Now why would I know where he was? He lives with his girlfriend. Maybe he was with her. I am not sure where she lived before she moved here but living here you are on your own.

I think the guy next door has been helping her with doing things and maybe she is counting on him to keep helping her. His health is not really that good so he can't even get up on some mornings. He was in a chemical spill and was in a coma for a year and a half. Died more than once. He is always in a good mood and I hear him laughing all day long at whatever he is watching on television. He helps take care of our building so maybe it is good for him to help the new woman too.

I took my walk this morning. It is beautiful out but is now 81 degrees and that is way too hot for me. I am in my cool air conditioned apartment. Not going out again. Ate my breakfast late because I had to wait for my son's grocery delivery. I took it right upstairs to him. Now I am cleaning the kitchen and about to clean the bunny cage......yes, both at the same time.

In the park this morning........

Peaceful looking.

After lunch I sat on the back porch in the swing.

Watching how busy the birds were.

I've got two bowls for water down there by the trees.
Didn't think the one close to ground got used ,,but saw Blue Jay in it 🥰
I feel sorry for our city birds. I have been watching them taking baths in the big mud puddle in the driveway. I really miss the wild birds that lived in my forest at my house. It certainly is not the same in a city.

Kat...we've had the coldest June in living memory..at least my living memory.. and today was no different plus we had rain.

The weather folks tell us it's all to do with the jet stream over Europe... currently in my province in Spain... where it's normally at least 80 or even 90 degrees at the time of year...everywhere is flooded with raging torrents down the streets...

We're told we'll get hot weather by july.. so I hope that's true because I have my staycation at the coast then..the first one I've taken in the Uk for over 30 years..

Wow I just found this diary of yousr. You sound like a great person. I may start one of these. I have done lots of writing about my life, family and former job. I kept a diary while was in college over 50 yrs ago. I still have it somewhere. You are now an inspiration to me.
You should start one. I will read it.

Wow, holly, that looks horrible! I hope you will stay safe and not go anywhere that might have flooding.

Tuesday I have a home visit appointment with a nurse. She is from UHC (United Health Care) and is going to evaluate me to see what I need. Most likely will help me get my dental work done and get transportation to my medical appointments. Not sure what else she does. I will take all the help I can get.

Today I could not go outside to the dumpster because my knee is hurting. I put ice on it this morning. Didn't like that much. The best thing to stop it from hurting is to stay off of it. I did the best I could but I did mop my kitchen floor and cleaned Rabbit's cage. I had bought a new broom. A straw one with a wood handle like I used to have................I cannot use it. Too heavy for me. I am really weak! It hurt my back instantly.

So I am going to go to Lowes next time Sonny comes up and pick out my own broom and mop. When I order them online they are never what I thought they were. I just want an old fashion string mop. These new ones are too high tech for me I guess. I hate them.

Katlupe, have you tried placing supporting pillows UNDER your knees when you are seated in your recliner? Could that help?

Sonny did manage to get his eye appointment in the day before yesterday. It ended up costing him more than $500. But it was with the eye doctor and a thorough exam. So he has new glasses being made and that was what he wanted. He was not able to be on his phone or laptop online for more than a few minutes. Now he hopes he can be back to causing trouble with the fakebook police again!

Since his eyes had to be dilated his drive home was tricky. He stopped along the way to rest his eye (he cannot see out of one at all). A sheriff pulled over to check if he was okay. He told him what was wrong. He made it home okay by pulling over and resting it about 3 times.

Now he is planning on selling his go-kart, motors and parts. Said he thinks it is time. His doctor told him he can't take the chance of driving it and anything crushing against his chest where the stents are. So that is that. I am sure he will stick with officiating and the administration of the races. He likes doing that and it keeps him involved in the racing life.

I think it is harder for men when they have to give up activities they used to do. I see it in the men who move in here. They took care of houses, cars, yards, gardens, had jobs, did sports, etc. They move in here and are bored and just watch television. Women find other things to do and seem okay with most of it. Ever since the manager let them put up a garden shed and set up the picnic tables outside for smokers, the men are gathered out there almost every day. They seem happier and yes, even healthier.

The seeds in my indoor bunny garden have germinated. I was happy to see green in a couple of the pots last night. This one is basil and it has more and larger seedlings today. I am happy happy happy! While I love basil and will probably use some, I am mainly growing these for my precious bunny boy.

I just placed a grocery delivery order at Walmart. If I want the deliveries to get here early I have to make sure to place them very early or the night before. Supposed to be here at 9. Now I am making more Keto Chow to put in the freezer for ice cream. On these hot days I am liking it to have ice cream available. Making chocolate peanut butter, black licorice, strawberry & chocolate malt.

Yesterday I vacuumed and it did me in. Even with the air conditioner going I was so hot. I used to do it twice a week and now do it only once a week. Rabbit's hay is the reason I have to do it. Otherwise I don't get it too dirty in here. In winter my walker brings the salt and dirt in from the parking lot. But this time of year I don't bring in any dirt in on it.

I love the early morning hours of my days. Drinking coffee. Watching Rabbit eat his morning banana and spring mix. The quietness of my apartment building. Very little activity outside, even though I am in the center of the downtown area. Usually the only thing that disturbs it is when the garbage truck pulls up to the dumpster. Or a truck backs up to the back entrances to the restaurants or stores in the city parking lot.

This is also when I plan my day. Things I have to do. I find that for me the mornings is my best time. I try to get everything done because I have the most energy and ability. By afternoon, not so much. I usually try to clean Rabbit's cage in the early afternoon. I always promise myself my lunch of the meal replacement shake (Keto Chow) ice cream after I do his cage. So I take it out of the freezer just as I am starting the cage. My treat!

I've been making ice cream with full fat yogurt, a small amount of cream, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk. I may try with erythritol for an unsweetened version. Or half and half. All kinds of add ins are possible. Tastes like frozen cheesecake.
I like quiet mornings too. I bet Rabbit enjoys them too!
