Reflections of My Life

Sonny made it through his angioplasty. He had 1 new blockage and 2 previously placed stents were both 90% blocked. He was right on the fence of another heart attack but he doing very well. They are hoping this will pull him out of AFib. I guess it is a wait and see thing. I think he will be going home tomorrow if everything goes well tonight. So the anesthesiologist actually saved his life by refusing to administer to him. At least it sounds it to me.

Certainly sounds like that to me too , Kat... what an excellent doctor at the other hospital to realise Sonny's life would be in danger if they went ahead with the original Operation. ..I hope he recovers well , sometimes there's an angel on your shoulder...

Today I am going to try to stay off my feet as much as possible. Yesterday was a little too much. It being hot and humid in the morning when I had to walk so far (for me, not far for a normal person) really knocked my energy out. I had already cleaned and organized my refrigerator (because of the soda freezing and spraying inside the refrigerator).

Yesterday I also ordered a vacuum cleaner, a broom and a dust pan for Jeff (with his money). That is scheduled to be delivered today sometime. He will have a little more money once his deposit is paid off. $100. a month for 7 months.

I know some people said things against this new health insurance company (United Health Care) I signed up with a couple of months ago....but so far I like it. Tomorrow my rep from there is going to call me and will help me see what services they have I can use. I have already been using it and getting stuff done that I needed. The rep called me while I was out yesterday and I couldn't really talk so will call back when I can (Wed). I have been using it since April, I think.

They give me $213. every 1st of the month on their card and I have been using it for groceries. I have gone to my foot doctor. Had my vision exam and waiting for my new glasses (I paid for the glasses because I wanted certain ones). I had my first appointment with my new primary care doctor which is the normal "wellness exam" that Medicare wants you to have. UHC put $15. on my card for doing that. I will be going back for a more complete physical in a few weeks but need to have blood work done soon.

So the rep touched briefly on the phone yesterday with setting me up with transportation to my appointments (just what I need!). Also I told her what happened to me trying to get the rest of my top teeth out (the dental surgeon said he does not extract teeth from anyone 70 or over!). And the fact that is the only dental surgeon in my area that is in their network. She said she can take care of that for me. So I have hope again.......

I had been considering going to a regular dentist and getting one tooth at a time extracted. Paying as I go with my credit card. After I pay it off then another tooth extracted and so on. At least I could get them out. I am in pain.

I got my new glasses today. They are so light! I purposely chose a very light wire frame. My other pair is a heavy plastic frame and it made a sore on the side of my nose. I can't get it to heal so I showed it to my doctor at the office visit last week. I think if the glasses hadn't been sitting on it all the time it would have healed. So now with these glasses it might heal.

I am waiting for Rabbit's box of hay to be delivered so I can clean his cage. I am out of hay except for the oat hay and that is not good for bedding. I used it last night and I don't think he liked it. This new box will be first cutting and will be a nice change for him. I had bought 2nd cuttings the last two times and he likes it but changed it this time.

I am also waiting for Jeff's groceries to be delivered. 6-7 PM. I always do my chores and shopping early in the morning. Jeff comes here in the afternoon and wants me to order groceries for him. So I have to do it when I do not want to. It disrupts my day and then of course, waiting for the hay to come so I can clean the cage. I am going to make an effort to make sure Jeff's stuff from now on comes early the next day instead.

When I am shopping on Walmart's site, they pressure me to hurry up and reserve the time and I am not even done shopping. So I forget things. From now on I will place the order one day for the next. Today my whole day is a mess..........nothing was done the way I do it usually.

Not sure what my plans are for today. I really need to rest my knees, especially the left one. I wanted to walk to the motor vehicles to get my driver's license renewed. I will see how I feel a little later. I would want to go early. I have to walk to the other end of the building to take the elevator up. So it is a long walk but I would have it done with for another 8 years (if I live that long but not expecting to).
Maybe I should ice it before I leave. That might help.

That rep from UHC never did call me yesterday. I kept waiting for her call. Then I had to leave to go get my glasses. So today I will use the number she called me on the other day and I will call her. I really wanted her to help me find a oral surgeon and to help me with the transportation. I think it said they will pay for 36 trips to and from medical appointments. On the 18th their nurse rep is scheduled to come here and meet with me.

I made it to DMV this morning. I was one of the first people in their office. Took less than five minutes since I did not need a vision test. I am glad I did not put it off. As you can see this is quite large building. The elevator is way down here on the end (right side) and I had to walk from there all the way back to those windows on the far left. I got more tired walking inside the building than I did walking from my apartment.

This morning I am meeting with a friend who lives here too and we are going to design a new FB group page for the tenants in our building. Not everyone has a computer or knows how to use one. I think it would still be useful and the ones who do not might be able to use their phones. Not sure about that. But it will give us a way to communicate with each other when needed. I have some ideas for it.

Yesterday I got sidetracked from doing my laundry. In the early morning before most people were up, the guy who lives upstairs and does not talk to anyone goes outside and sits at the picnic table. He smokes and drinks beer right there all morning. About noon he leaves and goes back to his apartment. Yesterday I was looking out my window and saw him stand up and open his pants and pee right there. Then he sat back down. He was looking around watching for anyone so he knew not to do that.

Now I don't have a problem with men peeing outside (even though I don't really like it) but he stayed right at the picnic tables. Just days before some children were visiting here and were playing in the grass around the tables. I alerted the officers in our social club and when they confronted him he said he did not do it. Looking at the spot where I said he was sitting, it had a bare spot where the grass had turned brown and it was still wet. You could tell. Besides why would I say that?

While I was doing my laundry today I was talking with the woman who lives above me. She was concerned because we have so many tenants who are disabled but probably not the type of people who should be living on their own. In our lease it clearly says that you have to be self-sufficient to take care of yourself. Living here should be like living in any other apartment building. Not assisted living. Though many of the people who are here now seem to need assistance.

I don't see anything that can be done about that. They either have to be in assisted living or a group home. And would my son fall under that too? Well, maybe if he was under a doctor's care. But with no doctor, I don't think anyone can force that onto him. The others here though, don't bother me that they live here too. They are younger than most of us and most of them go to some kind of program.

Many of us seniors though, have aides to help mainly with housework. So that would mean we are not self-sufficient either. I figure why even talk about it? I understand she was worried about a fire when one of them are cooking. But that could happen when anyone is cooking. Someone taking a medication could fall asleep and forget they have something on the stove.

Yes, anything can happen anytime whether we want it or not.

I guess it's hard to draw the line on self sufficiency. Maybe the building owner means that they, the owners of the building, are not responsible for providing assistance. Since there are a lot of seniors living there it's best for them to spell that out in the lease. They just need to provide a safe and clean building. Like keep the elevator working! 🙂

Well what has been happening since the new owners/management took over is that we (the tenants) have formed a "social club" with officers and meetings. It is good so far because now there are activities and events planned and a good turnout every time. So instead of people staying in their apartments all the time........especially new tenants, they are meeting each other and becoming friends.

What is also happening is the people who do need assistance are getting it from some of us. Even the cleaning of the building is now being done by tenants. The maintenance man has 3 buildings to take care of and I don't think he is that experienced. So fixing things takes him a bit and he can't possibly do it all. Some tenants were bored and some like to be needed. It is working nicely so far.

Wow lots of good people there!

I have always liked Mondays and still do. It is the day everything seems busier and alive. I am not sure if it is going to rain or not. I do not go by the weather reports because most of the time they are wrong. So if it turns out nice today (or at least not raining) I will try to make it to the park (just across the street).

Since I changed my Amazon account to receive most of my purchases on Mondays (because when they come on the week-end the post person who works then does not know how to deliver inside our building) I should be getting some packages today. The ones from Amazon are for my son. His music CD's. Plus I am getting 2 deliveries from Walmart. So I will stay close by.

My new neighbor down the hall from me needed help last night with her oven. I could see why! It has digital controls and I had a heck of time turning it on for her. I think I set it for 30 minutes and she never came back to me so must be it worked. It is too complicated for people with limited brain power. Mine is not that complicated but it is 6 years older. Her stove is new.
