Weight Loss Accountability/Support Group Thread

Weighed in at an even 200 lbs this morning. I always weigh myself in my underwear second thing in the morning . First thing is I pee. Back in 2019 I dropped down from about 215 to 190 by counting calories. Since January of 2020 my weight has crept back up 10 lbs to 200. I'd like to lose back to 190 but I'll be happy if I can make it to 195. Since it's the first of the month I figure this is as good a time as any to give it a try.
Glad to see this thread re-activated.

Like Trade, I lost weight, then regained some of it, and now I want to nip that in the bud before I'm at the start-all-over place.

Two weeks ago, I started logging my calories on My Fitness Pal again and I've lost about five pounds so far. I would really like to stick this out from now until New Year's Day, because if I don't diet during the holidays, I know I'll gain.

Hello everyone

Since January 2024 I have lost a total of 28.4 lbs !

Just eating in moderation , counting calories in the "Fat Secret" app😂

I was 30 lbs less before covid but gained all that
during that terrible time !

Would luv to lose another 5 lbs but if not it's ok ..I'm happy to have a healthy bmi

I am a "emotional eater " which I have had what I call "moments" that I just binge . Which I really want to fix 😣

It's been difficult...

Thanks for all these interesting posts !

First day of the month is weigh day for me. I'm happy to see I've lost 14.5 pounds since I started this 52 days ago. If I can keep going to Jan 1st it should mean about 10 more pounds and I'll be happy.

My bad leg is already happy to be carrying less weight.

At our age staying the same is an achievement in itself.

I just used a calculator to see how many calories I need per day. 1500. Not only is that not very much but it means going down to 1000 to lose a pound a week. It's a fine line and just doing something like misestimating the amount of oil I used to saute' the green beans last night can ruin my count.

It’s definitely frustrating.

I’ve been able to gradually lose over the last several years but now I’m at a point where reducing my calories is becoming more difficult.

I’ve had some success by increasing my walking to burn additional calories but I’m concerned that as I get older that may not be an option.

I’m fortunate to live alone and not having to take other people’s needs into consideration.

All of my food battles are fought in the aisles of the grocery store, if I don’t buy it I can’t eat it.
😉🤭😂

I envy older folks that are content to live on little more than tea and toast.

One tip that is helpful to me is looking at the calorie density of the foods that I choose. It’s the basic idea behind the old Volumetrics diet or the current NOOM diet.

For me, my old habits will always be lurking just below the surface and managing my food choices will always be a struggle.

Ah... well, since this thread has been resurrected, I'll say that I have only 7 lb to go, and these new posts have inspired me to hop to it again. (y) Method was just reduced calorie intake. I try to never have more than 1200 but 1100 feels better to me psychologically.

The thread was started in collaboration with Rob... I miss him. 🥺

Consider weight training for weight loss and weight reconfiguration. Converting fat to muscle, even without weight loss, will slim you down and offers the double benefit of combatting muscle loss in old age. Personally, I do exercise bands 3 days a week, about a half hour each of the days. Also light jogging for a half hour on those days. My shoulder exercises allow me to work all day using my arms without the severe discomfort I would formerly get and allow me to once again sleep on my side.
See This is how weight training could *really* help you lose weight, if that's your goal

I think Volumetric is one of the best diets. I still keep my very old book and return to it often.
Barbara Rolls, the author, never made a big name for herself.
She seemed content to let others run with her findings and get the glory. I think Chef A.J. is the biggest proponent of her research. I just don't like her though, for some reason. Too animated I guess and very vegan. Barbara is more soft spoken and allowed a variety of foods.

Good time to resurrect this thread. Halloween starts the downfall for many. Let's be strong during the holidays!
Rob. What happened?

My son and I are big fans of Volumetrics, too. We just plain like to eat so a big salad or a thin soup added to any meal helps us feel less deprived.

Well I looked up the link @Michael Z gave us, thinking, "I'm too old and squishy for weight training to have any effect," but the link convinced me otherwise so I added some slow push-ups to my little work-out/re-hab routine and I can already see a bit of toning in my arms and better posture!

Della, can you please direct me to Michael's link? Thank you!
Keep it up. One step at a time.

I’m curious how many people use/accept the portion sizes provided on food packages.

Also how many of you weigh and measure your portions.

I find many of the portion sizes on manufacturers packaging unrealistic and create my own. 🐷

I switched from constant measuring to using smaller bowls, plates, and juice glasses.

I do pretty well most of the time but every now and then I go completely off the rails 😉🤭😂

That helps me a lot too. I've been doing Weight-Watchers since May and in the beginning I had to measure food to figure out how much it was (to track it in their app), and if I were to put the amount of cereal I can eat in a regular bowl I would probably start crying! I use a teensy 6 ounce bowls and fill halfway. Sad, but at least I psychologically feel like I'm having a bowl of cereal with my breakfast.

Now if only I can do something similar with pumpkin pie and other holiday treats!

I usually don't eat anything between 8 PM and noon. I have two meds to take on an empty stomach and not together so the morning can drag on. A couple of meds need a full meal or risk burning a hole in my gut which has happened so I eat a lot of creamy foods.
In spite of this I have been losing weight. Who knows why? I hope it isn't cancer.

Personally I find most of those recommendations entertaining at best.
Our days of deer harvesting out of necessity are over. I cook and bake as much from scratch as possible. Our small vegetable garden is still producing. Yes, there is ham, salame, cheese and the unavoidable Dorito. Not to mention my European requirement of wine. With just portion cutting and still eating normally we have done really well.
