Weight Loss Accountability/Support Group Thread

My exercise bike arrived today, and my husband put it together for me.
I really like it !
My legs are definitely NOT in shape for this exercise, and I took several breaks as I was riding it today for the first time. I rode for 20 minutes, went about 3.5 miles, so overall not bad.
I have the setting at level 2, which is almost as low as it goes. Level 1 has no resistance at all, and I will stay at level 2 until I can ride at least a half hour all on one try, and not have my legs all turned to jelly afterwards.

We didn’t swim today, because more thunderstorms, plus we did not want to miss the UPS man when he brought the exercise bike. My goal is to be able to ride long enough and get a 3-wheeler adult trike and be able to ride on the roads around our neighborhood , with my dog, Marco Poodle in the basket.
I am thinking that if I practice this winter, by spring, i should be toned up enough to try riding a real bike/trike.
Nice looking bikes!

When I started exercising, 3 or 4 years back, I started on a bicycle. A mountain bike. At that point I was more than 100 lbs heavier than I am now and could just ride it around the house 4 or 5 times. I was surprised how quickly I improved. When it started to snow I switched to the recumbent bike, at the gym. Its good also.

Stick with it and I think you will do as well, or better than I did. I believe doing it and keeping your legs moving is more important than resistance. Let us know how it goes.

I feel derelict for not sharing more updates and I'm still not recording all I eat. But I'm seemingly doing well with familiar boundary markers on what to eat and lots of exercise. Yesterday I had two walks, one with the wife which was mostly just a stroll as she is physically very limited now. Since it was up at the Blake garden and I could take all the photos I like (albeit with leash in hand) it wasn't a hardship but it also wasn't a very good workout for me either.

So soon after returning I took off with just the pup for another walk this time about 3 miles including a long steep part at the beginning and kinder under the redwoods. I'll go get a weigh in to say where I am this morning. Ah well, 196 so a pound in the wrong direction.

I find I can only play the videos I post on Flickr on my computer but not on my phone. A couple of short clips from yesterday.

Thank you for sharing the videos, Mark. I've always wished I could see those spectacular redwoods! And how great that you got those two walks in... I will be thrilled when I can get out to some of the beautiful walking places we have in my area. Hoping that getting the okay to do longer distances on my knee won't come right about the time we start getting ice. 🚶‍♀️

Beautiful dog... with a look of "just WHY did we stop?!" :)

Did you get a knee replaced? Best thing I ever did with quick recovery because I was doing Pilates for a couple years leading up to it. If so you will love it.

Today was a good day, back in the gym and not too tired for it. About 3 hours. I ate well and feel good tonight. Had a peach and plum from our trees, but it really is too early to get good ones, next week the peaches should start for real. Also had tomatoes from the garden for dinner.

Weighed 195 this morning.

Weekend is coming soon, might have a little more of that apricot brandy...

Doing well is all that matters, we don't all need to record our food. I do, but I know others don't. Great videos, thanks!

Got my both knees replaced last October, its been good but I would not call my recover "quick". Glad yours was.
No, it's a patella fracture and although I was told how long full recovery would take, I didn't choose to believe it. I was wrong.
I think a knee cap can be worse than knee replacement, recovery anyway. Your patella is where one of your quads and a lower muscle connect, when I had knee surgery the surgeon went to great lengths to save the part of the patella where they attached. Just ground down the bad parts and replaced them with plastic. He said that had he fully replaced it recovery would have been much worse. Good luck with it!
Most I spoke to say 1 year for full recovery so does my PT doctor. My knee and knee cap replaced PT has done wonders for me even weight loss. By next week i probably will have lost 50 lbs, at 47 now. Seeing my GP doctor Monday to go over losing this much weight in this short time frame.
We are sounding like the knee recovery thread here, LOL.

Good morning, everyone! My weekend starts this morning with the actual traveling, so I'll be off-grid/out of touch until sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. My plan is to keep as close to my calorie goals as possible by choosing healthier menu options ( except for that peach pie ☺️ ) but I'll need to find restaurants because the hotel doesn't have one.

I'll catch up with how you're all doing in a few days... have a safe weekend!

Have fun! And good morning back at ya.

Although I don't need to lose weight (I could lose 10 pounds but don't care) I do need to be more accountable for my food choices and stop being lazy & childish when it comes to eating. My glucose this morning was 500; the meter blinked the HI warning. This has never happened before and I've been a diabetic for 50 years. Must never see a number like that again; it's my fault; I was careless & uncaring toward myself.

So……. Today is a Grumble Day !

I have been following along with my program, doing the intermittent fasting, eating healthy meals, and getting my exercise. I added an extra 15 minutes to the swimming time so I could do more pool exercises along with swimming time, and now I have also been riding the exercise bike.
Today, I have gained 2 lbs !
I am telling myself that it is probably because I am building muscle, or it is just my body holding extra water (from the exercise) but sometimes, I just want to throw that stupid scales out the bathroom window.

Anyway……. On with the program…… it has to work out eventually.

Today was a good day, over 4 hours at the gym and I ate well... except maybe for that apricot brandy tonight! I feel pretty good now, maybe the brandy helps.

As always the 4 gym hours were not as vigorous as most people do, but its still good... I think. It took me a couple of years, and the extra time retirement has given me to work up to this.

I weighed 194 this morning.

Had a few of those, LOL!

I am sure it's water, not fat, so its not important. However I know how you feel, I cringe when that happens to me, and it does a lot...

Good thing my bathroom has no window, if it did my scale would have flown out it long ago.

That is what matters, the 2 lbs of water do not. I have also seen water gains when I increased exercising, and loss when I quit. Not important!! You are doing great!
I was towing a helicopter for fuel in the rain truck ran over my knee when I fell. We had a tow truck also run out of fuel and was trying to push it the remaining short distance and I slipped in the rain and truck rolled over my knee.
Makes me cringe... I have no excuse for my knees. I suspect my long term obesity contributed... not as impressive a story.

I weighed 192 this morning.

Another good day, ate well and feel good tonight. No gym, as planned but did mow the lawn and a few other yard things. Had some cookies granddaughter made with cricket flower. According to the package there were 20 crickets per cookie, I ate 2, so ate about 40 crickets. Taste wasn't real good, but I detected no cricket flavors. High protein cookies.

Today it has been 4 weeks since I’ve started this thread about being accountable. In order for me to be accountable I committed to a certain amount I wanted to lose and my starting date was July 17/2023, which was when this thread started.

As of today, I’ve lost 5 pounds which is 25% of my goal weight loss. I am no longer walking 4 miles a day. Instead, I am doing between 1 to 2 miles on my treadmill somewhere between 2.8 to 3.0 miles per hour.

There’s no way I’m currently doing 3.5 miles an hour. If I did log that at one time, I was mistaken.

I’ve added in 30 minutes a day of yoga. Each day I do a different video which offers variety and each pound I lose makes doing this much easier.

I’ve mainly stuck with eating soups and salads, limiting my carbs . Only once this week I had a carb meal and that was gluten free noodles.

I’ve increased my water intake from 1 1/2 lites to 2 1/2 to 3 litres a day.

Overall I’m quite happy that I’m sticking to being accountable to the commitment that I started with when I joined this thread which was a loss of one pound a week. I’m actually a pound ahead of the game plan.

Congratulations to all the others here who are losing weight. It’s a step in the right direction of maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

Note: three times I tried posted the above message as is and three times it wouldn’t go through. Without adjusting anything, the 4th time it finally went through. 🤷‍♀️

Yesterday was a good day. Not gym, but I did yardwork, and I ate well. Back to the gym today. Picked and ate the first 2 peaches right off the tree. Ripe and delicious. Up to now it has been scrounging from the ground trying to find something edible. The peaches on the ground are the ripest. Now its begun, should have more or less unlimited peaches for the next 6+ weeks.

Good for you! You've done well.

You should be happy, accountability is easier said than done.

I think we are all struggling with it, I believe @Matrix is working on it. In time I think it will get better.

You are doing incredibly well, @PeppermintPatty ! 25% is a big achievement. 👏 💃
I've wanted to check into yoga for... well years now actually, and never did it. If you care to share some of what you're doing with that, I'd love to hear and do some learning about it.

Grumble days are fine, @Happyflowerlady ... wait 'til ya hear about my trip and what they fed the meeting attendees and then we'll talk some heavy duty grumble! 😲🤯 I'll be starving myself for a week!

About those 2 pounds... if you know you didn't overeat to cause it, I seriously wouldn't worry about it. I read a good book a few years ago (wish I could remember what it was called so I could recommend it!) and many of the things in it stuck with me. It was about our love/hate affair with the scale. So many things can show up as pounds that aren't actually fat gain... even a very rainy weather forecast can add a couple of pounds. Air flight. Lots of things.

You are doing great. It’s very clear that you are very serious about this. Your exercise chart along says it all. Keep up the good work. You’re a good inspiration for us all.

Thank you.
I absolutely don’t mind rambling on a bit about yoga. I’ve been doing it for years but somehow when I moved here I got out of the habit. I was doing it downstairs and now I do it in my room which is so much nicer.

I’ve tried a lot of different yoga tapes and dvds over the years and this one I do now is, by far, the best ( in my opinion )

It’s called Namasta Yoga 🧘‍♀️ and there are 3 seasons. I’m currently doing season 1 but about to start season 2.

Each series starts off with a 6 or 7 minute warm up. Then there’s about a 15 minute workout and a 5 minute cool down.
The entire series is about 25 to 28 minutes long.

Since I’ve been doing this I’ve definitely noticed a big improvement in my joints. They don’t hurt as much. I’m becoming more limber and feeling a lot better. I’d forgotten what a great stress reliever it is.

Here is a photo of what the DVD’s look like.
The videos themselves have beautiful partially photoshopped scenery. There’s gentle relaxing music and separate narration which has been added. I personally like added narration better since it doesn’t distract from serenity this offers.

I think you’ll really like this AND you can go online and download it and watch it on your tv.

It’s namaste by Kate Potter.
You’ve gotta try it.

Don’t get too bummed out. Weight fluctuates. That doesn’t mean you’re heading in the wrong direction. If you are exercising more it’s very possible that it’s weight gain from muscle tone. 😊 More muscle tone- more effective weight loss. 👍

Thank you, Patty... I'm excited about checking out the DVDs. Looks as if it would be something perfect for me especially during the cold months! (y)
These are great for any time of year. The fact that they are enjoyable and in a sequence of easier to more difficult is also great. It might be difficult at first but you will adapt and get better with everyday that goes by . It is a natural pain reliever. Guaranteed.
