What are things that everyone ought to understand, but many don't?

šŸ˜£ We disagree a lot on that. I am 100% in favor of censorship. I do not believe freedom of speech means the freedom to say anything a person wants to say because that can be very immoral and telling lies is very harmful. Freedom without a sense of responsibility and morality leads to anarchy and anarchy is not a desirable civilization.
It sounds like you really mean you don't want anyone to be able to say things that you disagree with.

...The U.S. has reached peak therapy. Counseling has become fodder for hit books, podcasts, and movies. Professional athletes, celebrities, and politicians routinely go public with their mental health struggles. And everyone is talkingā€”correctly or notā€”in the language of therapy, peppering conversations with references to gaslighting, toxic people, and boundaries.
I am well impressed by the Disney movies Inside Out and Inside Out 2.

Oh heavens no that is not what I mean. It is very important to argue about truth, right and wrong, politics and morals. That is not exploiting people by telling lies and causing a problem like racism and hatred. What is really wrong in the USA today is not knowing the difference.

Censorship teaches the difference and preferably education should give everyone an adequate understanding of the difference.

Law enforcement is not all bad and not all good. There is always room for criticism and praise. Sometimes our bias can block us from seeing both sides. One wouldn't have to look very hard to find del of examples of both.
I like the Canadian model of Policing, where the Police are directly accountable to a civilian over sight and investigative body, that reports directly to the Attorney General of each Province or Territory within 90 days of a situation where some one is seriously injured or killed in an interaction with Police officers. The Provincial Special Investigation Unit takes over the investigation and delivers a detailed report on what happened, who was involved, what they did right or wrong, and if Police acted improperly, the SIU lays criminal charges against them.

Police in Canada are subject to 2 types of criminal charges. First under the Canadian Criminal Code, just like all other Canadians, and they may also be charged under the Police Act, for things such as failing to properly investigate a situation or for neglect of their duties. Canadian Police are subject to close scrutiny by their senior officers, and by the public.

There is a very long list of things that a Canadian Police officer cannot do or be involved in. For example, a Canadian Police officer of any rank cannot own or operate a bar, a debt collection company, a Private Investigation company, a towing company or auto storage compound, provide body guard services, sell security equipment, act as a bouncer or security guard, or act as a security consultant. Canadian Police officers cannot act as a landlord or building manager of a rental apartment complex. Canadian Police cannot wear any type of political party emblem while on duty, and they cannot attend political events in uniform. Canadian Police cannot publicly endorse any political party or candidate while in uniform.

Police in Canada must be impartial, and must be SEEN to be impartial.

That we are controlled by media, and that so called alternative media is a worse version of so called mainstream media. Too often I see people with opinions that aren't truly their own, but instead are versions of the latest social media trend. You see it the language used, the topics that are hot, and a general trend for "right fighting". I wish more people a difference of opinion something other than making them the enemy.

So who gets to determine "truth, right or wrong"?? Censorship certainly does NOT teach the difference, and education certainly hasn't helped.

That presupposes there is a definitive "right and wrong". There isn't. We get to decide for ourselves, and there are many views that are equally valid. Education has helped a whole lot. Without a basic education, no-one on this forum would be able to communicate.

I'll let @Vida May respond to this, since you can't have the censorship she supports without someone deciding what is right and what is wrong.

Canada is much more advanced than the U.S.

"What are things that everyone ought to understand, but many don't?"

Here in the U.S. very few understand what the Federal Reserve (central bank) does, and how it creates money out of thin air in order to increase the money supply (inflation), so as to benefit the U.S. treasury by making it cheaper for the Treasury to pay back loans. They also keep the interest rates artificially low which encourages reckless borrowing and ruinous debt.

And you can be sure that not a dozen people in Congress, nor the President, understand the harm that the Fed causes. The last chair of the Fed who cured inflation by strongly raising interest rates was Paul Volcker during the Reagan administration. So the Fed is 100% responsible for inflation. We'd be much better off without a central bank. Market forces would adjust interest rates.

But if we did not have a central bank who would print the money thatā€™s worth less than then the paper itā€™s printed on?

Why can't people just attend to themselves and those around them and then mind their own damn business?

Who decides what is true? Danger Wil Roberson, danger!

I disagree. There are absolutes. Is it wrong to kill the innocent which wish to live? Is it okay to hate someone because of their skin color? Beastiality, Pedophilia and so many more. Why are you opposed to there being a right and a wrong? Our viewpoints have nothing to do with what is right and wrong.

Those aren't "absolutes." They're agreed upon rights and wrongs. We have laws based on what we agree to be wrong or in some cases, what people in power deem to be wrong, even if there's not a majority consensus.

What donā€™t people understand about this and should?

There is a terrible dilemma when you mention killing the innocent. Define innocent-a newborn for sure, and now a fetus in many states. Now hereā€s the dilemma. I adopted an infant who died, in a nursing home, before a year old. The adoption was not completed.

We brought the baby home, he was born hydrocephalic, huge head. Born DOA, the doctor resuscitated him against the bio parents wishes . We took him. He became ill at about six weeks, had a spinal infection due to his condition. In the course of testing, we learned he had only a brain stem, no brain present just a fluid filled head. He could not maintain his temperature and had to be placed in a nursing home, where he died, alone in his crib.

After he died, we received his ashes, but we could not bury him. He was not our baby. Couple years later his parents, who had been notified of his death, picked his ashes up from us. I had ensured he was baptized. I had named him after my brother. Not realizing my brotherā€™s name was also the name of his bio father. Strange?

Anyway, Thousands of children used to be born like him, with various serious birth defects, until doctors tested and a lot of these children were aborted. Now with limited abortions in the USA, more disabled children will be born. Those children, if born DOA, will be resuscitated, a lot will be born alive. I think the most aborted fetus are those with Downā€™s syndrome.

In China, these children are left somewhere to die. In the USA, they will be given up for adoption. If not adopted they will be in an institution for life. This is how it used to be, this is how it will be again.

Now, understand the life of these babies, who become children, who become adults. Raised in institutions their entire lives. Think of the COSTS of these children, these adults to each and every state. Building the institutions, staffing them, the medical care for each individual child who will live into at least their 50ā€™s and longer. Donā€™t forget schooling. Special school for these children, special teachers, special everything.

Those who applaud the end of abortion DID NOT UNDERSTAND. But, when the bills start coming in, they will. When their state taxes start going up they will. When the human cost starts to take its toll, where will these ignorant people be? Complaining about the costs.

Everyone has compassion for a disabled baby and child. Most look away from disabled adults.

When the bill was stuck down, Jesus wept-Forgive them father, they know not what they do.

The stupidity of the American people never surprises me.
