What I couldn't get this week shopping

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups witch hazel
  • 1 large lemon
Peel lemon and put peelings into the 2 cups of water. Boil down until there’s 1 cup remaining. Allow lemon water to cool and then add witch hazel

This is one of the simplest to make and most refreshing to use after bath splashes you will find.
Do you just use the lemon peelings and not use the lemon itself? It says boil down until I cup of lemon liquid is remaining yet the recipe calls for 2 cups lemon water.

Probably Monday isn't the best day to grocery shop. I managed to get almost everything on my list (I had to go back because I ran out of money last week), but I noticed many bare shelves. I still can't get aftershave (it nice to splash on in warm weather and has a nice fragrance). The discount stores have been out of it for months and when I do find a store that has some, it's in incredibly small bottles and very pricey (by my standards).

Imagine if a person had a credit card they could buy things online like this. Double the ounces for 1/2 the price.

Last week, I finally found them at Walmart again. I don't need them now, dang it, but I bought a jar anyway just in case I DO need some later.
I do the exact same thing! With both pimentos and capers. I can never seem to find them consistently (not that I use either one very often), but when I do find them I grab a jar, just like you mentioned.

Neither. It’s a small board that is designed for ironing sleeves on shirts. Thanks for looking.
I bought one of those very small collapsing table-top ironing boards and a smallish iron to use in our RV while traveling. In 10 years of traveling, I never took the plastic packaging off the ironing board or opened the box the iron came in. In fact, they're still stored in a closet, still in their original packaging. I don't think I've even used my regular-sized ironing board or iron in at least a couple of years.

While traveling, if the clothes got wrinkled, I wore them wrinkled. Two reasons: #1, I'm never going to see any of those people again (except for maybe relatives who we visited and they're not surprised that I don't iron) and #2, the wrinkles on my clothes detracted from the wrinkles on my face. Win-win!

Came out of Dollar General with NOTHING! The only thing that had on my shopping list was chopped pecans and they were almost a year over the expiration date. The other items not available were: their own brand of goldfish crackers, wheat thins crackers, AA lithium batteries and Mary Janes (peanut butter taffy).

I couldn't find vitamin D3 orange juice which I like to drink because I can't take vitamin D3 supplements. They give me bad headaches. I usually get my D3 from the OJ or from the sun outdoors but it's getting colder here so I am drinking it instead.

I was surprised that the local Wegman’s and Walmart didn’t have yellow turnips in the produce section.

They are sort of an old fashioned vegetable but they have always been a part of my Thanksgiving.

We always called them rutabagas. They are little bitter, so maybe with today's sweet fanatics they've fallen from favor? I liked them mashed with lots of butter but haven't eaten any in years. My local store has them.

That’s how I make them.

Some of the old timers used them to make a pie!

Put 2 cups of mashed cooked turnips into a basin, add 3/4 cup of brown sugar, 3 well-beaten eggs, 2 tablespoons of molasses, 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1 tablespoon powdered ginger, 1 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon and 1/4 of a teaspoon of salt. Mix and bake in one crust like a pumpkin pie.
