A flower a day ...


This reminds me so much of Tithonia diversifolia or Bolivian Sunflower but I can't seem to track down a photo. But in looking I came across this cactus flower which many have found humorous for some reason.

This shows the plant itself from 15 years ago. Now it has several columns that are about 8 feet tall.

Still haven't found the Bolivian Tithonia pictures but here is the Mexican Sunflower, T. rotundafolia. Starting with a superior pic from the internet.

As with all daisy-like flowers it is popular with pollinators.

My favorite thing about them is how the stem leading to each flower starts narrow and flares out in Dr Seuss fashion.s
