Are you streaming ( or binge watching ) any series on Netflix, or any other service? Tell us about it.

Streaming on Peacock a Spainish series called Caso Cerrado.

Format similar to Judge Judy but so different in cases presented. Stuff I coudn't imagine taking place.

One that stands out is a young woman being sued for videoing a baby left in a hot car. She called 911 but didn't attempt to get the baby out. She continued videoing as the baby died. The baby was dead when paramedics arrived.

She was paid $600.00 for the video. Who paid her was not shown.

I just finished watching Monsieur Sam Spade on Netflix. It is an AMC original show though.

Show Description
"Twenty years after the events of the novel "The Maltese Falcon," Sam Spade has retired in the small town of Bozouls in southern France; it's 1963, the war has ended, and in a very short time, so, too, will Spade's tranquility."

I found the post WW2 storyline in France intriguing but I had problems getting used to Clive Owen playing Sam Spade. It just didn't seem right to me but others might enjoy his performance. The production was great with beautiful scenery and outstanding music and sound. Overall, it did hold my attention through all six episodes but I was not overwhelmed by the show. That's probably my fault because I did have high expectations before I started watching it.
Watched Monsieur Spade back in February. I liked Clive Owen's portrayal a little more than you did. Here's some commentary after watching it:

We finished up the series last night. It's a first rate neo-noir series focusing on D. Hammett's famous shamus, Sam Spade, starring Clive Owen. I was pleased at how good this production was.

It takes place in a small French town in 1962 where Spade has retired, having left San Francisco. Naturally he's drawn into a local murder and mystery, which he decides to investigate. It's a pretty good plot, and besides going a little hinkey in the 6th episode, the story is well designed.

But it is Owen's portrayal of Spade, along with very noir-like dialogue and photography that make the show first rate. Owen even faintly resembles Bogart, although his dialogue delivery is not as fast paced.

Doc's rating: 8/10

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think my issue with his performance is that I have the Bogart image stuck in my head. So it is good to read someone else's opinion about Clive Owen's performance. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yeah, Bogart was a great Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon (1941). As a matter of fact, that picture, and certainly Bogart's portrayal, almost single-handedly ushered in the film noir movement in Hollywood. Bogart's Spade was contrary, ruthless, and only if convenient-- followed the law. He was definitely out for himself. That portrayal has been imitated hundreds, if not thousands of times, and really put Bogart into the leading man big time.

I know what you mean about being invested. What's kept me watching is the acting of Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow. The story in the second season so far is trite and boring, and to add to it, Alia Shawkat as Parwana/Angela Adams was a huge miscast. She looks like a freckle faced kid from Iowa! Of all the Middle Eastern actresses they could have gotten for that role.... gawd.

There was a brief hope toward the end of the 4th series that the story might get more interesting. Or at least get out of Afghanistan, or wherever they're supposed to be. Middle Eastern type stories have gotten so over played that I could go forever without seeing another one!! Fingers crossed for the rest of the series.....:cautious:
Actually, that "freckle faced kid" has middle eastern ancestry. And who knows, maybe she read better than everyone else. This from Wikipedia:
"Shawkat was born in Riverside, California, to Dina Shawkat (née Burke) and strip club owner Tony Shawkat.[4] She grew up in Palm Springs.[5] She has two brothers.[6] Her father is from Baghdad, Iraq,[7] and her mother is American.[8] Her maternal grandfather was actor Paul Burke.[9]"

Remember her grandfather from Naked City and 12 O'Clock High? I remember him from the former. I was wondering if anyone was watching Only Murders In The Building. I considered watching a couple of times but I've never been a Steve Martin or Martin Short fan, so I'm not rushing to watch the series.

Her ancestry is probably why they used Dina Shawkat. To my taste she's wrong for the role. Another problem is the dialogue writing for most of her scenes. It's too grandiose. Every person's dialogue is practically a speech. Way too much Middle East, which makes it drag. The show has gotten a little more interesting, so maybe it'll turn out to be a net winner. Yeah, I vaguely remember P. Burke from those shows. I have seen some of them. I didn't watch too much TV in the '60s. Was doing other stuff...

I wrote some commentary on Only Murders in the Building in post #445. If you're not a Martin or Short fan I doubt that you'd like the show. The first seasons is fairly interesting, so you might investigate.

The Dark: Great Deceiver

A kind of Christian apocalypse story. Weird point of view for me but almost some sort of projection of Revelations as far as I can tell. Not like The Exorcist which is very Catholic. This story seems more Pentacostal.

Eerie but not very scary since I'm not personally invested in this mythology. Might be far too much though for people who are.

Prime Video, Tubi, not sure where else you might find it. One season so far and only 5 episodes in it.

I watched the end of Culinary Class Wars. Loved it! It's been so much fun.

I'm rewatching The Mentalist, looking for things I missed in the beginning, which is quite a lot now that I know how the plot line went.

I found some nonstop playlist channels on Disney+. There's a real life one (that has stuff like National Geographic stuff), there's a hero channel (with Marvel stuff), a Disney Junior channel (with cartoons for little kids). I was really enjoying the Disney Junior channel the other day. I was feeling a bit down. The cartoons were upbeat, ended mostly happily and were brightly colored with beautiful animation.

Very well done 4 part docuseries on Netflix called:

American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31030101/plotsummary/?ref_=tt_stry_pl

Journalist Danny Casolaro was found brutally murdered--- or was it a suicide?
Probing the entire case for years with research material, police evidence boxes, and personal interviews with some very shady characters, some since murdered, director Zachary Treitz and an assistant get to the truth of what was likely a Deep State or Shadow Government conspiracy to silence Caolaro from revealing clandestine activity that reached to the top of the U.S. government.

It's a revealing, bristling and mesmerizing docuseries that may help some realize how the Deep State works.

Doc's rating: 9/10

Tried watching "The Sniffer" on Prime; Russian with subtitles. A little too slick for me... in addition to gang/mafia killing, pretty much *everyone* dresses in the urban black and gray, the offices and apartments (pretty luxurious for middle-class Russians?) are all chrome and glass, all angles... so cold and sterile... yuuuucccckkkk

Switched to watching "The Last Detective" on Amazon Prime with Peter Davidson (Tristen, from original All Creatures Great and Small). Much better. I hate the way his co-workers treat him but I like how his character rolls with the punches and keeps on doing his job.

Ripley (series) on Netflix. Very well done. Worth watching, in my opinion.
Ah, I've been wondering about that one. I loved the book and enjoyed the Matt Damon/Jude Law movie as well. Maybe I'll give this new one a try.

I enjoy reading people's opinions on these. For example, I have Doctor Odyssey and Yellowjackets on my watch list, and I'll have to get to those sooner rather than later. I also have Only Murders in the Building flagged, but given your reaction, @ChiroDoc, I may pass.

When my older daughter and I get together we binge Cutthroat Kitchen and have a blast. I watch it on my own, too, but it's more fun with her. Last night I texted her, outraged, after one participant was caught cheating and received a penalty of only $500. I think cheating should result in automatic disqualification! I was so indignant, ha ha. It's a fun show! We also like Chopped.

I stream a lot of You Tube. Not the music, but the "content creators". One I watch is a channel called Sean of Steel. He is a former heavy person who lost a lot of weight. He follows and comments on people who have gone through that weight loss show "My 600 lb life". Lots of successes and failures.
As I am trying to monitor my weight, and attempting to loose, it is interesting to see the excuses people give for not following the diet plan. I am no where near THAT kind of weight, some are 2-3 times my weight!!
Keeps me motivated to eat better. Went to my doctor last week and had lost a few pounds since my last visit, Not a lot, but the first time my weight was down, and not up 2-3 pounds

@OneEyedDiva I watched a few episodes of "Brilliant Minds". Not sure I will continue to watch it either.

I watched the 3rd season of Bridgerton. I liked it.

Yesterday, I tried "Found'. Not sure I will continue to watch this either. It is a little bit out there.

I also tried "The Irrational' on Peacock. I really like that one.

Tomorrow CBS will be showing "Matlock'" series with Kathy Bates at 9.00PM followed by Elsbeth at 10.00PM. (Season 2). I cannot wait to watch those two series. I love Kathy Bates.

Re: Ripley
See the original movie with Alain Delon, if you can. You won't be sorry! Purple Noon it's called, from 1960. It is on Amazon Prime.
