Reflections of My Life

I was out at the community sale earlier. Brought my box of stuff out and put it on a table. Lots of nice stuff out there. I told them to sell it for whatever they wanted and keep the money for the social club. I just wanted to get rid of things. Now I have room in two cupboards! Happy about that. There are over a hundred garage sales throughout Norwich today. And that is the ones that advertised. So many others did not pay for advertising.

It started getting warm so I walked to the ATM at the bank to get Jeff his cash. It worked today! Of course, I haven't seen him yet. If he wants it he will have to come here. Getting ready to clean my bunny's cage.

There is a leucistic bird living in our backyard. It is a genetic condition that results in the loss of pigmentation. She has built a nest out there so is there every day. I have not been able to get a close up shot of her yet. I had seen her months ago but didn't realize she lived here. One of the guys who lives here contacted the Chenango County bird club to ask about the bird and the president of the club replied back to him. I can't remember the exact name of this bird but will find it out as soon as I see him (my neighbor) again. This is the best I could do yesterday.

Like the song says, "hot weather is here again." It causes me to hibernate in my cold apartment (thank you, AC!). This week I have 2 appointments and going out with Sonny tomorrow. Then next week have 2 more appointments. Yuk, I really hate appointments. Especially the medical kind. Wednesday is my vision appointment and Sonny made the appointment for me when he made his own. I know I need new glasses so looking forward to this. My driver's license expires in June so have to be able to see to renew it. I do not drive but who knows, someday I might need to live in a van.

Thursday I have an appointment with my foot doctor. I had to stop going because of my insurance and now I have a new one so made the appointment. If the insurance does not cover it, I will pay it with a credit card. I need to do this because I cannot see good enough to trim my own toenails. You would think Medicare would cover foot doctors, vision, hearing and dental. That is what we need most at our ages. But only if you are diabetic using insulin now I guess. I am walking to this appointment because he is that close. I wish all the appointments were that close. Well, my hair appointment is.

Today, I am making 4 more batches of Keto Chow (for ice cream in the Creami). Pork ribs for supper in the Instant Pot and finished off in the oven. Other than that, not sure what I will be doing. Maybe laundry, maybe vacuuming, maybe taking a walk outside unless it is too hot out. If it is I will walk a couple laps around my hallway.

My new chair came yesterday from Amazon. It is really good! Heavy duty, steel with a vinyl cushioning on the back and seat. Not shiny vinyl. I had to order more furniture sliders because I didn't have the size I needed for the chair.

Then I repaired the wood chair and the stool with the wood glue I had bought. Was easy to do and seems to work. I put the wood chair in the bedroom area (I call it the bedroom even though this is a studio apartment) and am going to use it for doing some exercises.

As a "carb addict" I feel I have finally beaten that addiction. It is a good feeling knowing that I am no longer tempted by sweets, grains, fruits or vegetables. It took me a good two months of not eating one bite of them to not want or need them any longer. Now I am not forgetting things any longer or dropping everything. I know the "brain fog" is one of the first things that clears up when living on protein and fats. Carbs are not needed by your brain or your body for any reason (no matter what you have been told).

I stopped tracking my macros on Cronometer. Dr. Berry says to eat when you are hungry and until you are comfortably full. That works for me! Now I write down what I ate for each day in a plain notebook. Not the amounts. Just so I can look back and see what I ate and how it affected me. My hope is to improve my ability to walk. My knees mainly.

I follow several keto youtube channels but lately have added some carnivore ones also. Since following them I have been able to stick to my low carb way of eating better. My Zero Carb Life, No Carb Life and Steak and Butter Girl are the ones who turned me around. Now I have no problem with seeing others wolfing down french fries and ice cream in front of me. I still use the replacement shakes from Keto Chow as ice cream. Between that and Zevia sodas I have no cravings for sweets. Those are my only sweets.

I guess I was thinking about this because I am making my grocery list out. Need to replenish my freezer! And eggs! I eat eggs daily and the last two days I have been out. Stocking up today!

I hope you all have a good day today!

Yesterday was hot and humid and Sonny was late getting here. We went shopping though and bought a lot of groceries. Sonny doesn't usually stock up and then has to run to the store to make something. I guess I talked him into it. We needed two grocery carts! Never before. I got my normal groceries. It was tiring though. After I got home and cleaned Rabbit's cage and had supper, I turned off the computer. I think I only watched 2 videos before I woke up to discover the video was over and so was the screensaver. I woke up today at 2 though and did not get up. I stayed in the recliner till 4 but didn't really go back to sleep.

Today we have vision appointments. After that I want to go back to the store to buy food for Jeff. It is not that I like shopping so much but I like to have what we all need. So I will do it again.

My vision appointment went well. Sonny's did not. They would not do his exam when they found out he could not see out of one eye. He should have mentioned it when he made the appointment (but glad he didn't because he made my appointment also). So he had to find a vision place that has a doctor physically in their office. Most of them now only have the doctor on a big screen monitor. That is how I had my eye exam. She said my eyes are good but I am farsighted and needed a stronger lens than I am using presently.

So I ordered new glasses and will pick them up in about 10 days. Then I can have them fill out the form to go with my driver's license renewal and won't need to take the test at motor vehicle. I am looking forward to new glasses.

This morning I have to walk to my foot doctor's appointment. I am hoping the forecast is wrong and it won't be raining at that time. I think I need to buy a raincoat of some kind. The only one I have is a BIG poncho that covers my mobility chair and myself when riding it. The umbrella is hard to hold when using the walker (or the mobility chair).

Eye Doctors on Monitors? My DIL is Dr. of Optometry. Never heard of this, want to ask her about it, my first feeling is, I don't like it.
They are all doing it here. No doctor in the office. The other people who work there take you through the machine part then take you to a room with a monitor in it. It is a zoom call type of thing. Sonny had to call around to a few different ones to finally find one with an actual doctor in the office.

I found this information about it:

Can an eye exam be done remotely?

Yes, you will be seen remotely by a eyecarecenter optometrist who is licensed in your state. Who will be in the room with me? One of our dedicated eyecarecenter eye care professionals will be there to assist the remote doctor.

How does a remote eye exam work?

Your licensed doctor will appear on the high-definition screen and perform your eye exam with equipment that is controlled remotely. The doctor will then discuss the exam findings and answer any questions through the high-definition screen.

How accurate are remote eye exams?

Online vision tests cannot offer accurate prescriptions for patients that need irregular or high-power prescriptions. Online vision tests can test the power of eyeglass prescriptions, but are not effective at testing contact lens prescriptions.

I walked to my foot doctor appointment this morning and it did not rain. My nails were an embarrassment but I could not cut them myself. I can't see that far and because of my knees I cannot just bring my foot up closer to see. I was happy to have the doc do the trimming. He is a happy sort of guy and even though he had to warn me a couple were going to hurt it wasn't that bad. I will go back in three months.

I am thinking about what I can make for the Memorial Day picnic we are having on Monday. I am thinking about a relish/cheese tray or something like that. Picnic food and not too much work to prepare. Keto food. Maybe put a cream cheese olive spread in the middle of it. Those used to be the thing back in the fifties and early sixties. I like to make those because they are keto friendly.

Today my plan is to do laundry. Right now I have my window open so I can hear the birds. I have been seeing that white bird a lot more lately. Her nest is safe here from cats because none come to our yard. Lately everyone is out in the backyard during the day. Especially at the picnic tables and the garden shed. Never has anyone been out there like this in all the years I have lived here. Everyone is friends now. I think nobody is listening to the complainers and whiners anymore. That is a good thing.

I will try to take a walk again today. What I have wanted to do is to take a walk right after I eat. So that would be two walks a day. Even if it is not very far. Then come back and do the dishes. The dishes usually sidetrack me from the walks.

Last night I had to call my new insurance company's (United Health Care) home care division. They had sent me a letter to set up an appointment for an in home appointment to evaluate me and what I need. I got the appointment for June 18th.

Anyway the rep and I ended up having a long conversation. She asked me that magical question.........did I have any pets? So she could warn the person who will be coming here. I ended up telling her all about Rabbit and how I got him and his antics. She was laughing the whole time and thanked me for such an interesting conversation and that I made the call and her day for her. I was just talking like usual. She kept saying how much she would like to have a rabbit as a pet.

Kat, I went to the eye doctors office in Greene in November last year, so not long ago. It was business as usual in their office. I saw both doctors with patients. I love that office! So friendly (and small, and they take my insurance).

I used to go to that office a long time ago. Now I am trying to have appointments as close to home as possible. Sometimes I have to get to the appointments on my own. The remote appointment was okay for me.

Since today is supposed to be pretty hot, in the 80's, I am getting everything I need to do done this morning. Making 4 more batches of replacement shakes for ice cream. Need one daily when it is hot. Otherwise I can barely survive it. They make me so cold I almost always have to turn my air conditioner off for awhile.

I always feel the need to plan out my day with chores and/or relaxation activities or my day will just go by with nothing to show for it. I do not normally take naps but there are times when I put my feet up on my recliner and I doze. Mostly on the days I get up too early. I like to get up about 4 but have gotten up earlier.

I do not enjoy outside picnics/barbecues when it is very hot out. Our manager and the people who live here in my building are planning one for Memorial Day. I am still undecided on if I am going or not. I feel I should, at least for a little while. Socializing is the way to keep building friendships with my neighbors. I am closer to certain people because we have more interactions. So maybe I will go. Have to put my name on the list downstairs to let them know I am going.

Hot weather is here and I do not enjoy it one bit. I know everyone looks forward to it. Not me. I am thankful that I keep my air conditioner in my window all year long. During the cold months I just block it with cardboard. I will do my laundry, bedding and towels today. I just sit down there with my coloring book and gel pens while the washer and dryer are going. It is cool down there even though the dryer is going. I like to take my shoes off because the floor is usually ice cold.

I am ordering the food I need for the picnic tomorrow with Walmart delivery today. And some food for my bunny boy. Beyond that, no plans for the rest of the day except normal household chores that I do every day.

I am leaving in a few minutes to go to my doctor's appointment. A wellness appointment with the nurse practitioner. Sonny is picking me up. I figure I may have to get the hated blood work. I do not like needles of any kind! I have not been in a while and the only reason I am going is to set up a new primary care doctor. This one is in the same place I live so no long drives.

Then I will come home and clean Rabbit's cage. I was calling him silky this morning because his fur is softer than silk.

This has been one of the best doctor appointments I have ever had! I didn't have to get the blood work today. Have to go back on another morning before I have eaten. They do it right there in their office. Kind of nice not having to go to the hospital. And no appointment is needed.

They (two different people saw me, one is the assistant I think) were impressed to read I am 71 and not on any prescriptions and had never been on any. I told them I expect to keep it that way. I hope so.

Came home and cleaned Rabbit's cage and had a dish of orange cream Keto Chow ice cream. Now put my feet up for a bit till supper time. Before I left the office the NP who I had my appointment with, was looking up Keto Chow on her laptop!

I was given a cognitive test at the doctor's office. I suppose due to my age? Anyway, I was not sure I could do something like that because I was not real smart in school other than in English classes. Here at home I write things down so I can remember them. Like how much money is my or Jeff's account. Or what date and time I have to do something. Someone's address. I did them all and pretty quickly too. I don't know how I did them. I even have a case of mild Dyslexia and keep words I use on a document on the desktop of my computer for help with spelling if needed.

I am still amazed at myself on how well I did. I think doctors are amazed at us senior citizens when we show that we know our way around the computer and internet world. I told him I wrote a blog post this morning and he was like, "What?" "Wow, that is great!" Most people think we are not familiar with them. Shoot I have worked on a computer since 1994, it is not new to me. Now the telephone is whole other story. I realize that is due to the fact that I don't like them or enjoy. So I never pick it up unless I have to. Mostly to talk to Sonny.

I’m glad you had a good day and not being on any medication is amazing!! I won’t participate in a Medicare wellness visit because they are a way for doctor's office to make money and not very beneficial for the patient. I do however do a yearly checkup.
