Reflections of My Life

I know this. That is why I am trying to do it. Just the hot weather kills me. I do better when the weather isn't so hot. Like today it is supposed to be in the 80's.
Yes, but.........you can still stand or sit in walker for the sun as long as you can tolerate it. Sorry to nag, but I've seen what lack of Vitamin D can do.

Kat..have you ever considered a grabber bar? I have a 3 foot and a 4 foot grabber. When I drop something these are a tremendous help. I even use mine to take laundry out of the hamper. I have this hip kit but mostly use the grabber and the sock helper thing.

I have the sock thing and use it every day. I do have a grabber and use it. The one I have was my mom's and I kept it. Also use the shoe horn daily too. Those things are handy and I have been making my apartment easy for me to live in. Keeping the furniture closer to the walls so I can use my walker from one end to the other.

Detailed examples please? I do agree about getting as much natural sunshine as possible.
I know 3 people who have told me of these deficiencies who shortly after had mini stroke and two heart attacks and their docs made sure they had enough Vit. D. by prescribing. One friend worked mostly outdoors only and was shocked he was deficient in Vit D & the next thing, he had a heart attack.

Just personal revelations, but I have noticed doctors in my area paying more attention to this lack, but what do I know?

I am not worried about. With help I recently was able to come up from the 1st floor to my floor on the stairs. But there is no way I could live happily on a busy floor like the 1st floor. Actually as long as it is working I don't ever think about it though I do include it in my morning prayers.

Good, and I think, if you had to, you could easily descend the stairs in a sitting position.

I have heard that the older we are, the less we can manufacture the Vitamin D from the sun, so taking Vitamin D is a good thing at our age.

Today I have a grocery delivery coming (for myself, not Jeff). So need to get my laundry done before 12. Getting in the shower now and will have my 2nd cup of coffee when I get done. I have to coordinate my activities for the day so it works. I hate when I get rushed. I ordered a rotisserie chicken for my supper today. I don't usually buy them unless I am with Sonny and he is coming home with me. He cuts them up for me. I just don't feel like worrying about cooking a meal later today.

Got my grocery delivery today. Rotisserie chicken was HOT! Hotter than when I buy it myself in the store. I am thinking probably because she shopped for that last. I had some for my 1st meal of the day and it was really good. So it will probably give me 3-4 meals at least. I did laundry and cleaned Rabbit's cage. Now I am getting ready to make some ice cream and cool myself off.

Today is my hair appointment. At 12:30 and that is within the time of a predicted rain storm. Of course, I am walking so if it does start I will be in it. I am hoping the weather report is wrong. It seems to me that we can have days of sunny weather then when I have to go somewhere it will rain or storm. I can walk in the rain but hopefully it is just rain and not a storm. Seems to me this is exactly what happened the last time I had an appointment somewhere.

This morning I am making more Keto Chow. I do four at a time. Other than that, not doing anything so as to keep my legs rested so I can walk to my appointment.

Back home from the hairdressers. Didn't rain or anything. Just HOT sun beating down on me as I walked to and from my appointment. My hands were bright red by the time I got home. Now I am good in my cool apartment. I turned my ac up before I left because I knew I would be hot. It is breezy and we have been under a tornado watch. Praying it passes us by.

Now having some black licorice ice cream (keto replacement meal). Mmmmmm.....

The good news is that we did not get the tornado that was predicted for us yesterday. The bad news is the thunder and lightning storm went on for a long time. Rained hard and our ramp got flooded and the water came in under the door. So the lower level must be flooded too. That happens whenever we get a lot of rain. I turned off all my electronics as soon as I heard the thunder. My friend who lives downstairs was here when it started and she was surprised that I unplug everything. She does not have a computer or a television so probably doesn't understand how expensive it is to replace.

Today I have some phone calls to make. Going to make out my August budget sheets instead of waiting for the day before. I hate to get behind on that. Have a pile of papers to go through and getting rid of other things. Trying to make things as simple as possible here.

I forgot I was going to make those phone calls till just now when I read what I wrote earlier. I got so busy with other things. Been downsizing my houseplants. Just tired of so many. Now I am down to five. Plus the herb garden which is coming along. I am doing the August budget sheet right now.

I believe God was guiding me when I decided to move my son, Jeff here to my building. Today I saw on Norwich scanner nerd page that during the downpour last night his old building's roof started leaking into the 2nd floor apartments. He was on the 2nd floor. A girl who lived there said it leaked into her apartment first and then into others and in the hallway. I would have had to deal with that immediately if he had still been living there. Best thing I did was to move him here. At least I can rest easy knowing he is safe here.

That was the same thing that happened to the Chinese restaurant that was next to his building. Until their ceiling fell in while people were eating in the restaurant!!! Now they have a new place in a different location. They are supposed to open on the 15th and I am glad for them. Their old landlord refused to repair the ceiling for them. His loss.

Recently I purchased a nine inch cast iron skillet. I am excited to be using it. When I moved here I brought with me most of my cast iron collection. Then found them hard to handle, especially on my Duxtop induction burner. I was afraid of it breaking. So I sold them. I have tried various types of skillets since then. Nothing was as good. Even expensive stainless steel ones.

I seasoned it the best I could without using an oven. It is in the process while being used of seasoning up. For probably thirty years that was all I cooked with. So my old pieces had a really good season to them. I took good care of them. Nothing ever stuck to them and it made cooking easier. I think this new skillet will end up being my main way of cooking. If that is what happens I will get rid of everything else. Cast iron does work good on an induction burner.

One of things in the news in my small city is that the bus that I finally started using may have to close up. Due to contract negotiations with Transdev which purchased the bus company in 2023. They now want more money and our county does not want to burden the taxpayers with even more taxes. So many people now depend on the bus to get to work or programs they are in as well as shopping and appointments. I pray it don't close them up. I really like using the bus.

Greed in action again. :(Hope you don't lose your bus, Kat.

Glad you like your new cast iron pan. I have an 8" I think, but only used it once. It used to hang on a narrow kitchen wall until I moved and I don't recall if I threw or gave it away. It can scratch glass top stoves.

These days with some arthritis in my lower thumb joints, it's a bit hard for me to lift.

Speaking of houseplants one of my newer ones is dying, or maybe dead. I noticed slight webs here and there; guess I was too late with my homemade insecticide. The others are doing ok.

It has been too hot for me to go outside. I just can't wait to get back inside after I take my daily walk to the dumpster. Even early morning. Today I am not sure what I will be doing. I think they are having some kind of basketball thing in the streets so have them closed off or will close them off. I am not into crowds of people so probably not checking it out. Or only from a distance.

This morning I made my first cup of coffee. I use a coffee pod type of coffee maker. Then after I made the 2nd cup, I said to myself that it didn't taste as good as usual. It was then that I noticed the new unused pod sitting next to the machine...........I forgot to take out the used pod and put in the new one! No wonder!

Today every time I get up from my chair I am walking a lap around my apartment. Granted it is not far or outside but it is something. The hall is way too hot to walk in. As soon as I open my door I feel that horrible humid heat hit me in the face. I keep my apartment pretty cool. Sometimes I have to turn the ac down a bit. Cannot wait for fall. I say that every summer but if I loved hot weather I would still be living in FL.

I made a big bowl of coleslaw for this week. Next I am making a cucumber and onion salad. I mostly eat meat and eggs now but there are some vegetables I enjoy. It is just that I do better health wise without certain ones. Sadly, tomatoes was one of those. But today I am cooking chicken in the Instant Pot with salsa. Going to squeeze in making more Keto Chow. I like to make a variety of things for the coming week. Especially when it is so hot out.

Today I think we are having a meeting downstairs in the community room with our manager. So planning my morning around that. I have deliveries coming so probably after the meeting they will be there. Woke up to rain which cooled our temperature to 66. I like it in the sixties. It will go back up again but at least it was cooler.

I ordered a case of Zevia, a sugar free soda that uses no coloring or dyes and only stevia for the sweetener. I bought the creamy root beer. I usually have one after my supper. It is like a dessert for me. It is not available in my local stores so I get it from Amazon. Some people who change their diet cannot handle any type of sweets because it triggers them to eat a lot of them. It doesn't do that for me. Maybe because I can't afford to eat them nonstop. One soda, one Keto Chow ice cream satisfies me and I know I can have them again tomorrow.

I spent my week-end binge watching a YT keto channel I watch, Loving It On Keto. I wanted to watch it from the beginning. Because she and her husband are a little bit younger than me. It is fascinating to watch their transformation from unhealthy and overweight to how they look now. Plus she is really good at explaining how keto works and has the best recipes. Not done yet. She has a lot of videos.

I am very thankful after reading the thread about sky high rents and not being able to find senior housing to live here. My rent is very low and even though it was raised in June that was only by ten dollars. I feel safe here and for the most part if my health gets worse I could still live here. I would just need to have an aide come in and I am eligible for that. I am able to run my air conditioning constantly while it is hot because my electric bill is covered by HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program).

Making my chicken with salsa in the IP now. On my way to Rabbit's cage to clean it. Then will have a keto replacement meal as ice cream. I never did have breakfast because I did not have time. I am good though. People in the meeting eating sweets and having coffee. I brought LMNT (electrolytes) in my insulated cup to sip on. I feel so much better not eating those goodies. In the past I could never pass it up and would get off track and feel horrible for days. Not any more. Unless it is Chinese food. Though the last time I had it I remember how bad I felt. But hard to pass it up.
