Reflections of My Life

Today is my delivery day from Amazon. I have all my orders delivered on Monday now. Much better that way because I know when they are coming. I also am expecting 3 books from eBay but not sure what day they will arrive.

Vacuuming day today. If I lived in a house somewhere I would be doing it as soon as I got up. When it is cooler. I wait till my neighbors are up before I make too much noise. I am thinking of buying one of those box type fans. Sometimes I need to give my air conditioner a rest. I hate noise and the constant sound of the air conditioner makes me turn it off at times.

I am working on my blog more than I was now. Decided I needed to keep updating it and keep it active. I am not making any money off it and I plan on keeping it that way. I am so sick of every YT video or blog that is full of advertisements or promotions to buy or subscribe to something. Everywhere you go someone is after you to buy something. Well, I don't want to!

I just thought their content might have something to say. I used to make sure to like their videos and if they were good I would share them. If I really like them I will subscribe. But not joining anything that involves my money. I fast forward through the videos that have a promotion built into it usually in the middle. No thanks, if I wanted to shop I would be on Amazon's site.

Kat,

I’ve been enjoying your blog entries!!!

It’s helpful to see how other single seniors approach life on a day to day basis.

I’ve been working on decluttering and finding new ways of managing my diet/food supply, laundry, cleaning, transportation, etc…

Thanks again!

B 💐
You have no idea how happy I was to see you back. I missed you very much!

Just finished doing a flea treatment on my bunny. Not a chemical or medication one. Just manual. Flea comb and soapy water. Didn't find any but better to be safe than sorry. Makes me wish I was a spinner............got huge gobs of bunny fur off. At first he doesn't want me to do it but after he settles down he seems to like it. I put him on a pad on my table so I can do it easily. All done for today. I have to do it often in this hot humid weather.

Sonny is having a procedure (not sure what it is....an operation? Sounds like it) on August 22nd that scares the heck out of me. He said his doctor is going to STOP HIS HEART!! And then restart it!!! How can they do that? What if it does not restart? They say, "oh sorry. That didn't work out." I am really afraid for him to have this done. But he says he has no choice and that he trusts his cardiologist.
Does Sonny have Atrial Fibrillation? My husband had several episodes where they had to stop his heart to get things firing properly. If it’s really bad, they do it that day. Later he had an ablation to make it more stable. These doctors are used to doing this. There’s always a risk, but think positively. They’re not in a rush and Sonny will feel much better after they do this.

Thank you for the reassuring words. I don't understand much about it but he trusts his doctor so I will try too.

I had to place a grocery order this morning because Rabbit needed spring mix and bananas. I never run out of his food. He used to love certain other foods but slowly over time I had to discontinue those. Due to making him have soft poop and it was messy for me to clean off him and other places too. Oatmeal was something I fed him when I first found him and he loved it. But it made his poop very teeny tiny and hard.

Then kale was another food he loved but had to stop because it affected him too. Now berries was the last thing to go. He had been having blueberries or blackberries for his bedtime treat every night. He loved them because I would hide them in his pile of hay and he would have to forage for them. All of a sudden it started causing issues with his poop of course. I feel sorry for him since rabbits are such delicate little souls. In the wild they know what to eat. For domesticate rabbits us owners have to figure it out.

We will soon have five apartments here for rent. Two on my floor and three upstairs. Two upstairs are one bedrooms and the other ones are all studios. My neighbor across the hall a bit is the one I spoke of in the past of being so loud and then calling others "scumbags" and trying to get them evicted. He is moving to another place that he says is cheaper. I can't say I am sad about him leaving.

The guy who peed outside by the picnic table had been evicted around two months ago but did not move out. Had to go back to court over that. Now he scheduled to move into a different place on the 1st. The one bedroom ones are being cleaned out presently.

The one lady (who will be 100 next month) had gone to the hospital and then rehab and then decided she did not want to come back. She wanted to go into a nursing home. Her daughter and her husband live here so they and other family members have been cleaning out her apartment. Which is a job. She lived here over 30 years.

The other one bedroom is across the hall from my son's. A corner apartment. So only have one shared wall with another tenant. The lady that is moving out is very clean so I imagine that apartment will be very nice.

We had an unruly tenant and two young single fellas that graduated and moved on, in my 9 apartment section.

One apartment has been renovated and filled with a young fella and two cats. Pets are always a good indicator of a responsible tenant. 😉

The other two apartments are being renovated and probably will be filled next month.

I’m always a bit nervous about how new neighbors will blend in.

In the last 14 years, it has been my experience that the tenants with the most chaotic and disruptive lives don’t stay for long.

I’m fortunate that the building is a very quiet old concrete and brick fireproof structure.

Good luck with your new neighbors!

Thank you, Aunt Bea! I normally get along pretty good with new people. I like to make them feel like they made the right choice moving here. When I moved here I immediately bonded with my neighbors because they welcomed me.

Not having a car can present its problems. Hard to get places that are not on a bus stop. I believe the taxi cab companies here have stopped running. No one wants to pay $20. one way to get anywhere. Me included. Another reason I have for not wanting to take one is that some of them are quite unsavory characters.

So I have requested from UHC for transportation information but the girl was quite rude toward me on the phone.......because I kept saying "what?" due to her talking a mile a minute. I could not understand her at all. So I called the GetThere one that the office for the aging distributed their information on post cards to all of us. Hopefully, she will find me a ride to and from my doctor appointment. Otherwise I will have to cancel it. Sonny can't take me because he has an appointment with his spine doctor.

UHC also (same girl) did not have an answer to a oral surgeon that would be in their network. Okay, fine I will figure it out on my own. For now I just want to get to my doctor appointment.

What is UHC? In New York State, Medicaid patients are allowed free rides to and fro doctor appointments. Your PC must fill out the paperwork. Call your Medicaid office, and your PC. Google 'Medicaid Transport'. Hope this helps.

I stopped in for my daily dose of Katlupe, which I need always to help balance my days.

United Health Care which is the supplement insurance Medicaid makes me have.

GetThere called me back and I will have a ride. It will pick me up at 1:15 for my appointment which is at 2:15. I don't mind waiting an hour at the doctor's office. This office is really a cool place to hang out (not just the temperature either). And they will pick me up after my appointment is finished. Yes, Medicaid pays for it.

Yesterday, my neighbor (and friend) came to my apartment and asked me to make an appointment for her to get her hair cut at my salon. She wanted me to go with her so I could help explain how she wanted her hair cut. I made the appointment and gave her a piece of paper to put on her refrigerator and to explain to her husband. It cost more than what the shop they usually go to charges. It is a better shop and I believe worth the money. It would probably be about $30 or maybe less.

She left happy. This morning she was at my door in tears. He will not let her go. They have been married for 56 years. Since she got early onset dementia she has complained about him constantly. Sometimes she is not sure who the man in her apartment is. I doubt he is doing anything to hurt her but she thinks so. I understand about her hair. Women care about their looks and especially their hair. Well, as soon as the shop opens this morning I will be canceling her appointment.

Today I took everything out of one of my cupboards. I can't reach up to the 2nd shelf. So I was able to get the shelf out and change the brackets on it to make the shelf lower. I had to make the lowest shelf much lower so the jars I use to store things (canning jars) have to lay on their side. That is okay. I have no problem with that.

Then I took my bookcases apart. They look too cluttered for me. Yet everything on them I use often. The books were behind the CDs on the shelves and that makes it so I rarely take a book out of there because it is too much of hassle. I have not finished that project yet. Will do so tomorrow. If I don't use something I have to get rid of it.

I am tired tonight. If I ever try to take a little nap during the day, Sonny will call me. Or Jeff will be at my door. Or my neighbor. It is so weird, they all take naps or sleep all day but if I try for a little 10 minute one I am always woken up by someone. I suppose it is because they are used to me saying I never take naps. Well that is why.

I am planning how to change the bookcase so it will look neater and organized. Then maybe I will be able to find stuff easier. I looked at pieces I could replace it with but changed my mind. Not going to spend the money when this one can be spruced up. I don't want to use paint inside my apartment but think I will use contact paper to cover it in a lighter color.

I just ordered an expandable shelf to see if I can put CDs on it on one shelf. If it works I will order a 2nd one. This bookcase is something my father threw together when he needed one. Then he used the paint he used on his porch and outside of his house (the wood part). It is a dark brownish red color. Too dark for me!

I keep all my office supplies on it as well as the bottom shelf has my shoes on it. I take them off as soon as I come in the door.

I have to freshen up my kitchen bookcase a couple of times a year and make a few hard choices to let things go.

It’s amazing how ‘stuff’ continues to creep into our lives!

Covering a couple of shoeboxes or small cardboard boxes with contact paper to hold office supplies and other similar items might create a more streamlined look.

Have a great day!
