Reflections of My Life

I managed to do the rest of my laundry today. It got me out of my apartment. I sat down there and colored while my laundry was in the machines. Nobody else was there so it was quiet. This morning before my shower I did the dry brushing and applied magnesium oil where I needed it. Waited 20 minutes and took my shower. When I was applying my lotion I realized my calves and feet were not hurting as bad and pretty soon, not at all. I made sure when I got done with the laundry to put my feet up awhile.

Now after cleaning the cage, they are getting an ache in them again. Well soon it will be my bedtime.

Tomorrow will be our Girl Talk coffee hour. I am hoping our manager will be here because she wanted to help me with the coffee. If not, I bought some ground coffee and half & half. I can bring my coffee maker downstairs if I need to. I started to get stressed over it but just decided I will do what I got to do.

I am planning next month on stopping in the jewelry store down the street and see how much he would charge to reset the stones in a ring I have. I would like to wear it since it fits me now and it is very unusual. One of the stones came out, but I have it. Seems to me that I should wear it while I can.

The guy asking about how to design furniture better for older adults make me think. I have some issues with furniture now. one being mainly with recliners that are not powered (not enough electric outlets for one in my apartment). Hard to get out of them because they are so low. Maybe one that would be designed like my desk chair where it can be lowered or raised up higher. And not be electric.
kat,

I’m not sure if it would work or be helpful but there are several styles of furniture risers on the market.

This is one example from Home Depot.

Kat, I'm eager to hear about your Girl Talk coffee hour. Gotta say, you are such a good neighbor; they are lucky to have you! Since it's only the first one, maybe it will be a bit quiet, but I'm sure it will become successful.

Good to hear your legs are better today. Do you usually do the dry brushing or only sometimes?

I think you will all enjoy Girl Talk, I know I would.

Thank you! I think it will grow over time if I make it fun. I want to have conversations about things like........who are you? What was your life before coming here? Happy times in your past? stuff like that. No building politics!

I dry brush every time before my shower and yeah sometimes I am in a hurry and can't do it. It is not only good for your lymphatic system but for your skin as well.

As I said on the coffee corner this morning............I made my morning coffee and didn't even realize my cup was not in it?????????? How could I do that???? Brain fade for sure! Hot coffee all over my counter! I had washed my cup last night and put it in the dish drainer rack. Normally I put it in the coffeemaker for morning. Well, I am not so energized at that time of the morning but I had to turn on the overhead light and clean it up.

When you look at a person moving into an apartment building that is for disabled and/or elderly you do not see who they are. Just their age or disability, maybe their race and gender. That is all people know about them yet many will judge them based on that fact alone. When I moved here my neighbor across the hall who is now one of my closest friends offered help (and friendship) to me. Taking me downstairs to help her set up the potluck supper table. My first reaction to the that potluck supper was not to go because I was so new and didn't know anyone.

Many people move into our building and never make those friendships. Some keep to themselves. If that is what they want that is okay. But there are times when even the most introverted person might need a friend. I say to be that friend. Be pleasant to everyone. Say hello at least. One lady here sounds angry no matter what she says. If she starts talking to someone it is to tell them what they did wrong or how bad this place is to live in. Yesterday in the elevator with me she tells me "a bunch of pigs" lives here. I just listen and don't add to that conversation.

I have high hopes for the "Girl Talk" coffee hour today. Even if it only two of us, I will make it fun and a happy experience.

When they're settled in, a knock on the new neighbor's door with a housewarming gift of a plant cutting maybe? Or a 'welcome' gift of a couple cookies on a paper plate? Or just to say 'Welcome, I'm in apartment #-- in case you need help or have a question'.

Lately I have been having more trouble than normal when I am walking. It is almost impossible when I first get up in the morning. My knees mainly and now my feet have been swelling more than ever. I think that is due to it being so hot. I keep saying, relief will be coming on that first day of really cold weather. As you all know, I do not take anything for pain. I don't see the reason for it. My boyfriend (Sonny) takes tons of meds and some pretty strong pain ones. He does everything he can get from the allopathic doctors. Does it help? Not really. Always changing what he takes. Always getting some type of test. Always going to different specialist.

I find ways to deal with pain and whatever is wrong by doing lots of research and using alternative methods. They usually work too. Trying to mask the symptoms is not what I want. I want to stop whatever it is. No, it will not cure my Lmphedema, nothing will. I know I have to live with it. That is okay if I can make life with it easier and more comfortable. Same with my knees. I do not want an operation or a shot and that is my goal with them. To be able to walk more also.

Right now I have been doing some simple exercises that hopefully will result in me being able to go down the stairs at the end of my hall. When I do that, it will be a happy day for me.

I have done that many times,I call it a brain fart.😁

Increase your potassium intake maybe?

Apparently we need a lot of it, maybe 2500mgs daily. And the ratio na to k should be correct, about half again as much k, so not exceeding 2000mgs na would call for 3000 of K for heart health.
When you follow a low carb diet, whether it is Atkins, keto, ketovore, carnivore or the lion diet you will always need more electrolytes. More sodium, potassium and magnesium. That is why when someone first starts it they lose a large amount of weight which is what is called "water weight". High carbs hold that water in and low carbs makes you lose that water. The closest I come to eating a processed a food is when I have a condiment (but a low carb, no sugar one) or sausages.

I am in the process of planning an activity of watching a DVD in the community room. An "Afternoon at The Movies" type of thing. We used to do one that was at night, after 6 PM. But I think more people would come if it was earlier. I mean at 6 PM, I am getting ready for bed these days. A bring your own drink and Free Popcorn activity. I notice when you provide drinks or even coffee in the afternoon many people bring their own anyway. I always did.

Today I have nothing really planned to do. It is supposed to be cooler so I just might get that walk in. To the park and sit outside and people watch for a bit with my camera.

Sonny bought one of those cargo containers to use as a shed at his house. Now he has a large garage but it is not close to the house and he rarely goes to it lately. He wants to make this into his workshop. He had to get a permit to have it delivered. Add $50. to the price of it. I can't remember what he paid for it. He is going to put a regular house door in it so it will be easy to go in and out without having to open the big door on the end. So he has been busy.
