Reflections of My Life

Yesterday I had a very busy day. Just household chores and paying bills. Laundry. Now when I do my laundry I stay in the laundry room and color in my coloring book while I wait. I found I could not read because of interruptions. So I can color and talk at the same time. The washing machines become unbalanced almost constantly so if I am down there I can fix it. I think I fell asleep immediately last night. Don't remember watching anything or turning the television off.

Today I have a couple of projects I am working on. Plus my blog. I have been getting new ones up more often so that is good.

I did get my new cast iron skillet seasoned pretty good. I have only had it for short time so don't expect to fry an egg on it yet. I wrote my newest blog post about it because that is what my homesteading friends like to hear about. The things I do now that I used to do on my homestead. Not that different. Still doing cooking, cleaning, taking care of a critter and just being me.

I liked the new skillet so much I ordered another one. A smaller one, probably the smallest. It will fit a burger or an egg in it. I used to have two little ones that size and used them to saute mushrooms, onions or peppers for myself (my husband would not eat any of those). That one was delivered today so probably starting the seasoning process on it tomorrow.

ColorScape is here this week-end. It is a big art festival that takes place here every September. Lots of music, food, things to buy, art, clowns, jugglers, art classes for children, etc. All kinds of stuff. Very pricey though if you purchase from the food trucks. The people who live here get food from our local restaurants and just take it out to the parks to eat. They are already setting up some of it today. I will venture out tomorrow to watch them work.

I stayed up longer than usual last night watching a new video channel (to me) on YT. It is about a young couple who moved to Alaska. Bare land except for the forest. They must have had some way to make money because they had a lot of expensive equipment. Like a new sawmill. The two of them were working hard trying to beat the weather. Living in a camper that normally sits on top of a pick up truck but they put it on log posts while they build their house.

I would not want to live in Alaska or anywhere like that but I have always loved reading books about people who did. A lot of the things they were doing almost reminded me of setting up my Peaceful Forest homestead. Except we had an actual house to move into.

I am still not getting enough food in. Hard for me to remember to eat 3 meals instead of 2. So today I am making some foods that will make it easier. Hard boiled eggs, chaffles, sardine salad & my own ranch dressing. My freezer is full of meat now because I vacuum packed all the meat I bought at the store.

Last night a new tenant moved in. I think he is Spanish. On the 3rd floor. There were 3 empty apartments up there I think. Moved in later in the day so was still working on it past nine. Loud talking and all, but I can sleep through that. I was watching videos so not really affecting me last night.

As you all know, I returned the new Nuwave oven back to Amazon because of the smell (manufacturer smell). I hated to give up my Nuwave since I use it for my oven. I ordered a used power head on eBay. I asked the seller if it had that smell and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He said no. I bought it......$23. with free shipping. It came today and I tested it. Works and looks like new but no smell! I am happy now!

I'm so glad that worked out! Your oven back. Yea! :)

I have been binge watching this young couple as they work on building a life in Alaska. They don't call themselves homesteaders but they are building a house on raw land that they bought after seeing it once. Never had been to Alaska before and never built a house before. They have a lot of bad things happen but they stick it out. An amazing couple!!

Other people who live here are fighting with each other. Crazy. One guy who lives downstairs asked me if I thought this building will make it. I said yes. I said I love living here and have no plans to leave. One person who I will call Negative Nancy is always angry and mad about something. Complains and whines and hates new people. She infects the others. I just let her talk and don't contribute to her conversation. She came to us out there and starts in saying there is a lot of b******t going on here. I said I don't what you mean I have no problems here.

Mainly the reason I don't is because I am careful who I am close friends with. None of the negative people. Maybe the reason is due to my computer. I can stay inside my apartment all day and just do stuff on the computer. Do my chores and take care of my bunny. If my knees would improve some more I will get back to walking outside again. Especially since the weather is getting cooler. I am not one to hang out with a bunch of people. I think that is the problem some of these people are having. The ones involved hang out together. I don't have time for that.

Griping and complaining can become a habit, especially when people have too much time on their hands.

You are wise to stay out of it and to keep busy with your blog, hobbies, etc…

Choose happiness! 🤗

Today it looks like it will be better for ColorScape. It rained practically all day yesterday. There were people out there but I am sure they were wet. People are gathering out there this morning. Good day for it with these lower temps.

Well, I tested myself and I passed!!! I walked (with my walker) all the way to the Grand Union and back!!! It is 0.3 miles and a 8 minute walk according to Google one way. Took me longer than 8 minutes of course but who cares. I have been wanting to try this but it has been too hot for me. Temps in the forties this morning and feels so good. Rabbit needed more spring mix, bananas and parsley. I knew grocery delivery would be difficult since our street is closed due to ColorScape. So it forced me to do it today.

It’s almost time to tackle those stairs! 😉

Have a great day!!!

I have had a quiet day, listening to music and coloring. When I am coloring, I am thinking. ColorScape is still going on and it gets quite loud at times but with my music on I don't really hear it so much. They have games and things like jugglers and clowns so people yell and clap. Now I am fixing pork chops in the oven (Nuwave). These are pork chops breaded with pork rind crumbs, some seasonings and Parmesan cheese. I buy the big family pack and then vacuum seal them 2 in each package. Cooking for myself is just so easy.

Surprisingly, my legs are not hurting after that long walk. I usually can't do much after I walk somewhere. Not this time. Maybe things are improving for me. I hope. They should be by now.

Morning Kat. Talked to my brother Saturday, Chuck and his wife Lisa live in Norwich, they are going to Colorscape Sunday. Hope the weather was good for them. Their house is last house down on East Main St. The fair grounds are behind them.

Yesterday was beautiful! They had a good day and it was not that hot. Lots of people there yesterday. I will look for their house next time I go the credit union with Sonny.

I just cleaned off and straightened Rabbit's mats that I have for him to eat and sleep on in front of the dressers. I sit down here and see he has picked one up and moved it around looking underneath it. Like having a child I guess. I had opened the window a bit to get that morning air in here but had to close it already because it was cold. 48 degrees so far. 55 is our high for today. My kind of temperatures!

I placed a grocery order for my son this morning. Delivery is around 11-1. Nothing for me. I try to keep our grocery deliveries separate. Too hard to figure out the money later. He gets more money than me so he can afford his own groceries. If I had to help him I would but I am on a very tight budget. Right now his only bill is his electric which is about $75. a month. He wants a computer badly and then he will have internet and a digital telephone to pay for. He doesn't realize how good he has it without that expense but he needs something to do. I know he needs the computer.

Who sang the song that had this lyric, "I want it, I want it............you can't have it!" I keep thinking maybe Guess Who or the Who? Not sure but that song keeps running through my brain this morning.

I am planning a Girl Chat coffee hour for the 3rd Tuesday of every month. It is going to be for the women only who live here. If their aide is here at that time, they are welcome to come with them. I am going to tell them it is no building or management politics. It is going to for getting to know each other better. Women are more relaxed and will talk more if there are no men present. Our manager said she will provide our coffee.

I think with all the negativity going on with a certain group of people this will be encouraging to the others. I put up a notice by the mailboxes and one on the bulletin board inside the elevator. Certain people may have a problem with this but I believe she is saying she is moving out. Time will tell.

Yesterday, I walked for my exercise. Today I hauled heavy boxes from the lobby and pushed them into the elevator. Then pulled them out at my floor. Whew! That was hard work but I did it with no help.

Started my morning by unpacking my boxes of toilet paper and paper towels. They come in Big boxes and were heavy to get up here. Mainly because the case of Zevia was in the box they had them all packed in together. Next time, my note to my brain is not to order these items at the same time. Then I wrote a blog post. Now just have to search for the photos to put with it.

This morning the birds outside sound more like the winter ones. I heard a few blue jays and they are usually in the woods during the summer. Watching wild birds downtown in a city is a lot different from being in the forest. At times I really miss living close to nature. Then I have to remind myself why I am not there anymore. Now if I could have a little house that was just like this apartment and put it there it would be perfect. But it would make me need a car and that is an option I never want again. So I forget that little dream. I am getting to know the wild birds here. They are just different.
