Your own body, what hurts today?

Oh sorry to hear it @ rbtvgo, darn falls can happen so
quick and unexpectedly, this I know for myself, I hope
you heal up and not in much pain.

Read a book called On Being Mortal by Atul Gawande not too long ago. He is a doctor and writes about how we die from his experience treating people near the end of their life. What keeps it from getting boring is he also talks about his father's death and what that was like as the loving family that just wanted cures forever. He says in it that falling is the enemy which will take out most of us.

My arthritis in my hips is a literal pain in the arse. I deal with it by using a cushion to sit on at my desk, taking turmeric, glucosamine and Tylenol as needed, but what I hate most about it is that arthritis, as many of you know, causes joints to stiffen up if you don’t move for a while. If it’s in your hands, your hands might get stiff and you have to losen them up by making fists and opening them. Some people use pressure balls to squeeze for that purpose. Squeezing the ball helps get the synovial fluid pushing through the finger joints as it should.

When it’s in your hips, after I have been sitting for 20+ minutes, when I stand up I move stiffly like I am quite the old lady. I have to warm my hip joints up before I can walk normally, but the only way to do that in public is to WALK. It’s all MECHANICAL. I’m not dying. The synovial fluid needs to move about to lubricate the joints and while it starts its circulatory progress, I’m a little stiff-walking.

How Do I Increase Synovial Fluid?

I have some pain everyday (probably the osteoarthritis). I have learned to ignore it. I scrubbed the kitchen yesterday and I am paying for it today so I have already taken Advil. I walk an hr or more every day and I have prescribed pain meds (naproxen) that I take if I am traveling somewhere or when there is a company coming event. My mother spent the last few years of her life in a recliner as she couldn't get in or out of bed. I do take glucosamine, vitamin D and omega 3.

Anyone here ever used a percussion therapy device ?
I'm speaking of the @-home handheld type.
Mine is a Theragun brand, just started with it .......
If this is the same as a deep tissue massager (I'm thinking it is?) then yes, I've used it after having overdone it with hiking, cleaning, bending, etc. and when I had a rotator cuff injury. What I've found is that it's wonderful for some things, but if it's a certain kind of injury rather than just soreness or pulled muscle, it can do more damage than good.

Once in a while I have a flare of what's probably arthritis in my toes (8 of them... not the big two) and when I use that deep tissue machine on them, it's a tremendously good feeling of relief. Same for some calf/side of leg nerve damage from an accident... it doesn't act up often, but when it does, the machine helps a lot.

I have been really careful to make sure that I wear my shoes anytime that I am on my feet.
Even if I get up to go to the bathroom I slip my socks and shoes on.
I think that helps support the structure of the foot.
The pain got so bad that the foot even hurt while sitting for long lengths of time.
That pain caused me to have to massage the area that hurt and when I did I noticed that it relieved some of the pain.
All of the pain has been gone for the past few days now and I am very careful to wear my shoes whenever I put weight on my foot.

One of the odd symptoms of Covid is pulses in the head. I presume other people have experienced the same thing but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. The surges start small and gradually build up.....very unpleasant.

I have got the pain down to a routine now. I feel like I have found a plateau to hang out on for awhile. I know about how much pain is going to happen, the meds to take, the exercise to do, the foods to eat, the attitude adjustments, it has almost become fun most of the day. Weird. I am liking the age, 72, it has so many advantages, and disadvantages that I never would of thought of. You never know what to expect next. So, though the pain has got my life regulated way more, I am finding a lot of joy in being old/er. :)
