Reflections of My Life

I have almost got my computer back to normal. Still need to get GIMP in it. It was a good feeling when I got up this morning and turned it on and it worked. I know it is just a man made machine but it is my connection with the world from this tiny apartment. It makes living here easy for me. Just in time for the start of the new month and bill paying time. Don't want to be late with those!

Looks like a gray day and possible rain today. So I will be catching up on my apartment cleaning and laundry today. Sonny is coming up to take that computer to the copy store to send back to Amazon. It is too big for my walker, at least the box it is packed in is. I didn't open the box and that was one of the conditions for Amazon to take it back. He is stopping at the store to get bananas for Rabbit. So my bunny boy will be happy! This morning I gave him apple pieces and he seems satisfied with that for now.

I hope everyone has a good day and enjoys our last days of August.

Proud of myself now! I got GIMP in and it seems it was in the package all along. Just had to install it. I already edited some photos with it. Didn't even have to call for help.

Sonny was here earlier and took the brand new extra computer to send it back to Amazon. All done with that. This computer is working beautifully so I am happy. He had his dog Cinnamon with him and when we took the computer out to his car he let her out. She had fun exploring the place. Some of the guys were hanging out in the garden shed and she knew they were back there. Kept her eyes on them almost the whole time. While standing guard in front of Sonny. I reached over to kiss him and her upper lip went up with a low growl. She is jealous of me I knew this from the start. I am not her favorite person, yet she did come to me to be pet.

I ordered the new NuWave oven to replace the one that died. I planned on getting the same model but seems that one has been improved (or so they say). So I got the replacement model. It is supposed to be here tomorrow!

So today needless to say, I did not get my laundry done and not much more than my daily cleaning rituals.

So pleased your computer is fixed and the Nu Wave is on it's way! Glad too, you and Larry are friendly again. 🌹
Just friends.

The NuWave is supposed to come today and I am hoping it does. I am excited about getting it. I have been watching the videos about cooking with it and they are old videos but same NuWave for the most part. I am going to start putting pressure on our manager to get my stove taken out soon. I want that done before winter.

kat,

I’m kind of surprised that they would consider removing the stove.

My thought is that it would make the apartment uninhabitable or violate some sort of building code, the lease, etc…

I’m curious to see how you make out with both the NuWave oven and removing your stove.

Have a great day!!!

I thought our bus company, First Transit, had been closed down. But yesterday I saw a bus go by and my friend and I were outside and I mentioned it. She said no, they are still running. So maybe next week I will plan a shopping trip to Walmart. I did enjoy those trips.

I write in a journal so during this time without my computer I have been writing a lot. Through out the day, not just one big writing. I forgot how calming it is for me to do that. Not the same when putting it into the computer. So I am going to keep doing it. I also keep a food diary of sorts. Just with the date, day of week and what I ate that day. No macros. If I find a need to track macros I will just go to Cronometer for that.

I use the diary so when things are going badly or very good I can look back and see what the heck I was eating. I do that and see where the improvements have come from (which I am finally seeing). I remind myself that keto, ketovore or carnivore are first a health diet, not a weight loss diet as everyone thinks. Weight loss is a side affect of it. But if you have health issues it is working on those first. Mine being Lymphedema and Osteoarthritis. I see improvements since I got really serious about it.

I also started reading more this past year. I have to put my feet up or use the pressurized sleeve for my legs so I read while doing that. Instead of watching videos. Maybe that was why my computers broke.........it was a sign to do some other things too. Have to get outside more now that it will be cooling down. I can take cold days way better than hot ones.

When the HUD inspector was inspecting my apartment earlier this year, he saw I was not using it and had taken the burners and knobs off. I have a counter top board over them and have the induction duxtop on it with the Instant Pot. So he said they have to remove the stove since I am not using it and put in a cupboard for my pots and pans with a counter top on top of it. It was called a "reasonable accommodation" so the landlord has to do it or they are in violation of HUD regulations. He said it is not safe the way I was using it.

Yesterday, I cleaned and cleaned my kitchen. Now the NuWave is all set up in it. I made some changes in how I had things set up and am happy with the result. I have to cook something with it today that I don't care about just to test it and see if the manufacturing odor goes away and does not go into the food. I would hate that! The odor from it as soon as it came out of the box was strong. After washing it and setting it up most of the odor had dissipated.

I did save the parts from the old one that are still usable. In case the dome breaks or something happens to the new one. I washed it up real good and put it in my storage locker. This is what it looks like.

I’m jealous that your old stove has a window in the oven door!

Having a double bowl sink, window in the oven door, a window in the bathroom and another over the kitchen sink are little things I miss most in modern apartments.
Oh what I wouldn't give for a double sink! My dish rack had to be very small and it is so hard to put bigger items like glass bowls or pots on it. I have to put them on the counter. No window in my bathroom or kitchen either. My kitchen has a "pass through" in front of the sink though and it is in front of the windows so it gets light in it.

You all know I was excited to be getting my NuWave back. I was. That is until I turned it on. Immediately that "New" electrical smell affected me. My tongue went numb and I got a horrible headache (which I don't normally get unless the odor is really bad.........like from perfume). I have packed it back up and will be returning it. If in the future I decide I want one after all, it would have to be a used one or just a used powerhead. Not a new one.

This reminds me that is the reason I wasn't able to use this electric stove that is in my apartment. It is new and had that smell. So I would not use it. Very toxic fumes. I was afraid the fumes from the new NuWave would affect Rabbit too. I can live without it as I have other cooking appliances and I do not bake any more anyway.

Yesterday was a good day for me........until I took my garbage out to the dumpster. I saw garbage along the side of the dumpster and when I got close up........it was MY own garbage that I had thrown away the day before!!!! I was MAD! The bag was opened and Rabbit's litter and hay from his cage on the ground and wet papers, egg shells, Zevia cans, etc. I am going to get a paper shredder now so I can shred all my papers.

So I have only been eating meat, Keto Chow Core (no dairy), coffee with heavy cream, butter and salt for seasoning for 90 days now (like Dr. Berry recommended). I do see improvements in my health. One being something I hadn't even considered. My pinkie finger was bent at the top with a bump in it on both hands. I could not straighten it out at all. One day recently I looked down at it and it was straight as an arrow! That is the only thing I had been doing different. It had been that way for years now, before I moved here. A sign that ketovore is working for me.

I have been unsubscribing to many YT channels that I follow. Even the ones I followed for years. I find I am not watching them anymore. A big reason I have stopped watching them is that even though I pay for YT premium the content creator makes their own commercials in the middle of the video. More than one on some. Not watching those anymore. It is one thing if they make reviews of certain products but forcing me to watch the ads after I paid YT for no ads. Nope, not doing that anymore. I have been fast forwarding through the ads but tired of that.

I think the content providers are getting more out of the product ads than YT...They get the product for their time and like clicks on their channel..

Yeah, sensitive info is highly regarded these days. Not sure if most use it, but make everything non paper if possible. For us, pretty much everything is paperless. Bank and credit card statements, veterans affairs paperwork, gov garbage, etc. I am pretty sure everything even bills for utilities can be made paperless. No?

We rarely get anything, if anything. It goes to our son in Canada (we have to maintain an address in Ca). 99.9 percent its useless, so he takes it to his workshop and throws it in the incinerator.

But have read many stories of people being affected by dumpster divers, garbage pickers, what have you. Sad world we live in today.

Stay safe everyone.

In the 40s when I got up this morning.........now these temperatures are what I can live with! Just too bad they don't stay that way the rest of the day. Today is my errand day and Sonny is picking me up to take me. If we go to the grocery store I need to stock my freezer back up.

This month is a "no spend unless it is essential" month for me. I like to do that from time to time. I have been doing some tweaking from my budget so that I can have a little extra in my savings. I was keeping my emergency fund in cash but find I end up loaning it out to Jeff every month. So not going to keep it as cash anymore. If I don't have it then he cannot ask me for any cash. I take it back from his money every month but end up loaning it out to him over and over.

My friend who lives here too is an inspiration to me money wise. She saves a lot of money up and her income is only slightly larger than mine. Of course she does not pay for internet or television. Though mine is not that much ($29.99 for internet). When she wanted a new bed she was able to save up $3000 for a really good one from the bed store. She has to have a special type due to her back. Same with her mobility scooter and her car. When I need something I put it on a credit card and then pay it off in six months if I can. I like her way better.

My budget is on a fixed income. I have to budget. I have monthly reoccurring bills, like internet/food/gas/meds/ and few other things. I too have to make decisions on what "extra" I have which is about $500 a month. Stuff has been happening though that takes that , plus the small "total I have left to my name. Like we had to by a new car. Then we have to get gutters for the house., so the goes my fortune. :) Our microwave yesterday. We looked online and then at "Target". We got the new one at "Target". We'll see. This one looks like it cost about $5 to make. Cost $40.

kat,

Do you have Spectrum Internet Assist in your area?

I’m not sure if it would limit your internet access and speed but it might be a bit cheaper.

Have a great day!

Yesterday was a good....but busy day. Got all the errands done and took the new Nuwave to the copy store to return to Amazon. I may have found an alternative to that problem but will wait before I mention it. To see if I have.

Today will be another busy day. Laundry, processing the meat I bought yesterday and paying my bills. I already paid Jeff's bills.

One of the ladies who lives upstairs talked to me yesterday about talking to the manager when we have our next meeting with her about the dumpster problem. She had what I think is a very good idea. To have the management purchase a shredder and put it in the community room. Then have everyone be able to shred their own personal junk mail, bills, etc. I was thinking maybe having a certain day of combining a coffee hour with shredding. That way whoever cannot work a shredder will not break it or not do it because it is too complicated for them. Believe me there are more than a few people here who cannot read or understand/remember directions. So one of us can be operating the shredder to help them.

All the prices were up in the store yesterday. Large eggs were $3.77 a dozen. I bought four just in case they raise it tomorrow or the next time I need some. I eat eggs every day. I saw a lot of people with their carts jammed full of junk food anyway. I didn't check the prices on those but imagine they were up too. I stick to meat, mainly beef and one package of pork chops and two packages of hot sausages. And dairy. I spent a lot but I will have a freezer full now. It pays to cook these days. Especially for me.
